- Episode 9 - Rest at the Ainakura Ducal House
“So, I heard that recently, another saintess besides Emil has appeared in the Finable Empire.”
“What did you say?”
At Luki’s statement, Baron Kotokoris furrowed his brow in response.
“I don’t know the details, but it seems that someone has been imitating Emil—restoring lands your lordship previously refused to revitalize and healing people injured in disasters.”
“Ridiculous! She’s nothing but a fake. A saintess is a miraculous existence, appearing only once in several hundred years! There’s no way another one could exist besides Emil!”
“I think so too, but it appears that people are calling this fake the ‘Saintess of the Finable Empire.'”
“What?”
Baron Kotokoris’ eyebrows shot up at Luki’s words.
His beloved daughter was called the ‘Saintess of Kotokoris,’ a title tied to the remote region, while the new saintess was named after the empire itself.
“To call a fake ‘the Saintess of the Finable Empire’ over Emil is an insult!”
To Baron Kotokoris, this was utterly unacceptable.
“Your anger is justified, Father-in-law. Oh, by the way, I heard that the royal family has stopped requesting the saintess’s miracles. Is that true?”
“Now that you mention it, yes.”
Previously, no matter how many times he refused, requests for Emil’s miraculous powers kept coming. But now, they had completely stopped. Even the persistent Ainakura Ducal House had gone silent.
“Could it be that they gave up because your lordship kept refusing?”
“To ignore our house is to disregard the saintess herself!”
Although Baron Kotokoris had been the one rejecting the requests, now that they had stopped coming, he was furious at being neglected.
“Please calm down, Father-in-law. Perhaps we refused too many times? The royal family and the Ainakura Ducal House both have their pride, after all.”
“Hmp, nonsense.”
“Don’t say that. How about visiting the royal palace for once? If this continues, that fake saintess will stir up the entire empire, and Emil’s position will fade.”
“…You’re right. We need to lodge a complaint about that fake saintess.”
Emil had yet to resume her activities.
Even if there was only a one-in-a-hundred chance that the fake saintess could outshine the true saintess, it was an intolerable thought.
“I will advise His Majesty to harshly punish this fake. And I will make sure everyone understands that only Emil deserves to be called the Saintess of the Finable Empire!”
“Yes, please do your best, Father-in-law.”
Having decided to head for the imperial capital, Baron Kotokoris immediately ordered his household to prepare for departure.
On the desk behind him lay an unopened envelope labeled “Regarding Lady Yuna’s Whereabouts.” Inside, the message read: “Lady Yuna has been sighted in the imperial capital.”
Having completed her saintess duties, Yuna enjoyed a brief period of rest.
Once barren lands, once revived, could remain fertile with proper care, no longer needing a saintess’s intervention to stay in good condition.
With no urgent crises at hand, Yuna was now staying at the Ainakura Ducal House, as per the initial arrangement.
Unlike the remote Kotokoris Barony, the Ainakura Ducal House was located in the imperial capital.
The Ainakura family, a noble house without vassals or territory beyond their ducal estate, had historically served as loyal subjects to the emperor. For their great service, they had been granted the highest noble rank.
“Ahh, this is paradise.”
She stuffed her cheeks with the delicious feast spread across the table
As expected of the distinguished Ainakura Ducal House—the food was exquisite, the bedding was plush, the clothes were brand new, and the baths were pristine. Most importantly, nobody ignored her! Everyone took care of her and engaged in conversation!
As promised, Lord Rein had given her freedom.
She could eat as she pleased, take naps, soak leisurely in the bath, study, tend to flowers, or go for walks—she was truly enjoying her freedom.
“Yuna.”
“Lord Rein.”
As she leisurely enjoyed her post-meal coffee, Lord Rein spoke to her.
“How are you? Do you need anything?”
“Not at all. I have more than enough.”
A beautiful room, delicious meals, clean clothes, and, above all, the freedom to spend her time as she pleased. That alone was enough.
“You really are a person of little greed. It’s almost inappropriate to compare, but I’ve heard that the Kotokoris saintess desired mountains of jewels and accessories.”
“My sister liked those things, but I was never interested. I’d be happier with good ingredients for cooking instead.”
Now that she was recognized as a saintess, people often gifted her delicious vegetables and fish, which delighted her. The Ainakura Ducal House’s chefs turned them into mouthwatering meals. The life of a saintess was truly a blessing.
“Everyone is happy to give you things because they know you’ll appreciate them.”
“Of course, I do! Fresh vegetables are delicious, you know?”
Because Yuna had chosen to remain in the imperial capital, the city had entered an agricultural boom.
With a saintess who granted prosperity residing in the capital, crops flourished. Yields were abundant, produce was larger and tastier than ever, and inspired by the excitement, more and more people took up farming. The imperial capital was now overflowing with greenery.
