The Savior Says She's Having a Breakdown - Chapter 20
Chapter 20: Barbara’s Arrival (Part 1)
After seeing off Edris, Feng Qingyu immediately deflated. “I’m finished. I just made a huge boast. What if I can’t deliver?”
Hena patted her back reassuringly. “You won’t. Believe in yourself. Even if you truly can’t do it, we’ll send you back to Earth by then, and Her Majesty won’t be able to do anything to you.”
“I just feel that she trusts me so much. If I betray her trust like this, how disreputable would that make me… Sigh, I really don’t have the potential to be a bad person!”
Maggie suddenly interjected, “Is what you just said possible?”
Feng Qingyu was stunned by the question. “What possibility?”
“Creating a male that can naturally reproduce with a female.”
“That,” Feng Qingyu sighed, “If I can truly succeed in creating a person, it should be achievable. But the premise is: ‘I can create a person.'”
“I believe in you.”
After saying this, Maggie left the conference hall with Yuna and Hena, leaving Feng Qingyu looking to Mina for help, unsure how to react.
“Could she have been body-swapped? Suddenly becoming so human-like?” With no entertainment activities, Feng Qingyu could only space out in her room. However, once idle, her mind couldn’t help but wander. “Or maybe she was reborn from the future? Sigh, speaking of which, I really miss Earth, where there were endless anime, novels, and TV shows. This place is so boring. I really don’t know how these aliens grew up.”
She had already played with the communicator over and over a dozen times. Aside from the contacts and the function to control the chip inside her, the only other information was her own stored data, with no entertainment features whatsoever.
After endlessly fulfilling her childhood dream to roll around freely on a super-wide bed Feng Qingyu finally grew tired. She jumped off the bed, deciding to borrow a couple of books from Maggie to pass the time.
However, as she passed the reception room, she heard voices inside.
At this time, Maggie should be in the study, Hena and Yuna should be at the training grounds, and Mina should be in the laboratory—so who could be in the reception room? Curiosity made her cautiously attempt to eavesdrop.
“My little Maggie, I heard Mother was here yesterday?” The voice carried a youthful clarity, yet the authority in her tone was not to be underestimated.
Maggie’s cool voice sounded, “What do you want to say?”
“Tell me, why would Mother come to you for no reason? Is it—are you hiding something?”
“What if I am?”
“When did you learn to keep secrets from your sister?”
Sister? The legendary ‘Her Highness Barbara, Maggie’s political rival’?
Feng Qingyu’s ear, pressed against the door crack, twitched sensitively as she continued to listen.
“You led by example. You taught me well.”
Feng Qingyu could imagine the cold sneer on Maggie’s face as she said that.
“Is that so,” Barbara coldly snorted. “Then let’s see who the true winner is.”
“No need to compare…”
Feng Qingyu didn’t hear the rest of the sentence, because—
“Miss, what are you doing standing here?”
“Shh—” Feng Qingyu’s first reaction to being called was to silence the person, and her second was realizing she had been caught eavesdropping. “Uh, it’s Nancy. Are you here to serve tea?”
Nancy nodded, smiling. “Yes. Would Miss like to come in and sit for a while? I’ve prepared the Star Kingdom’s most popular milk tea and cookies.”
“No, no.” Feng Qingyu awkwardly prepared to slip away.
But then she heard Barbara’s voice getting closer, “Is there another guest? Come in.”
The door was pulled open. Feng Qingyu looked at the short, red-haired loli who only reached her chest and was momentarily unsure who this person was.
“This young lady looks unfamiliar.”
The voice confirmed it was Barbara. Feng Qingyu’s escape failed, and she had no choice but to follow Nancy into the reception room, all while observing the person specifically pointed out as “Maggie’s political rival.”
“I say, Maggie, when did you get another person I don’t know in your house?” Sitting back down on the sofa opposite Maggie, Barbara looked thoughtful. “I haven’t seen Fiona for the last few visits. Is this young lady the new person replacing her?”
Feng Qingyu stood between the two sofas, momentarily unsure which side to sit on. Just then, Nancy came over to set down the tea and cookies, inadvertently pushing her towards Maggie’s side.
“She is my guest.”
“A guest, huh—” Barbara brazenly scrutinized Feng Qingyu, her tone carrying disdain. “Black hair, black eyes. A third-class citizen from Planet Delta.”
Just as Feng Qingyu was about to retaliate, Maggie spoke. “I need to remind you of something, Barbara. Since the establishment of the Star Kingdom of Alpha, everyone is an Alpha Star citizen. There have long been no Planet Delta citizens.”
“Self-deception.” Barbara’s tone and expression were exactly the same as Maggie’s had been in the past.
“Perhaps you would prefer me to go to Mother and accuse you of ‘attempting to split the Star Kingdom’?”
Barbara’s face immediately flushed with anger, and she stammered, unable to speak.
Maggie calmly picked up the teacup on the table, elegantly sipped twice, and put it back. “Barbara, I told you long ago. Instead of thinking about how to deal with me, you should think about how to resolve the Star Kingdom’s crisis faster.”
“Hmph, none of your business. I have my own way!”
“That’s good. Nancy, see the guest out.”
Barbara watched the familiar scene, so angry that she jumped off the sofa, turned around, and walked out without looking back.
Feng Qingyu couldn’t help but laugh out loud as she watched her hurried steps that looked like skipping.
“Is something the matter?” Maggie interrupted her laughter, frowning as she asked.
“Right. I came to borrow a couple of books from you. You don’t have any entertainment activities, and Mina said the experiment is paused for the next two days. I’m bored.”
Maggie agreed without hesitation. “Alright, I’ll have Nancy bring the books to you.”
“Thank you very much.” Feng Qingyu thanked her and snatched a small cookie on her way out.
However, when Feng Qingyu saw the books Nancy delivered, she was desperate. “Why did I forget again! The language barrier!”
She casually flipped through a couple of pages and then asked Nancy to return the books. Feng Qingyu decided to go to the training grounds to gossip with Hena about Barbara’s height issue.
However, when she arrived at the training grounds, she found that Hena and Yuna had absolutely no time for her.
A group of tall, uniformly dressed beautiful women were split into two lines, sparring one-on-one. Hena and Yuna stood by watching, and if anyone was slow to attack or went easy on their opponent, they would strike her with a wooden stick resembling a rolling pin.
After watching from a distance for a while, Feng Qingyu turned and headed toward Mina’s laboratory.
Mina had just finished bandaging a guard who was injured during training when she saw a bored Feng Qingyu walk in. “Is something the matter?”
Feng Qingyu found a random spot to sit down and shook her head. “You go about your work. I just wanted someone to talk to. We can talk when you’re done.”
Handing the medicine and bandage to Annie, Mina wiped her hands. “I’m done. What would you like to talk about?”
“I saw Barbara this afternoon.”
Mina became a little nervous when she heard Barbara’s name from Feng Qingyu. “What did she say to you?”
“She didn’t say anything to me. She doesn’t even know who I am.” Feng Qingyu waved her hand, signaling her to relax, then lowered her voice. “I came to you because I want to gossip about Barbara’s… physique.”
Mina breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh, that. What do you want to know?”
“She’s Maggie’s biological older sister and Edris’s biological daughter, right?”
Mina nodded. “Correct. Genuine, no substitutions.”
“But both Edris and Maggie are over 1.75 meters tall. How is it that she looks only about 1.3 or 1.4 meters? Genetic mutation?”
“Actually, Princess Barbara’s current state is due to a virus she contracted when she was a child. Although she was cured later, she was left with a sequela—her appearance is permanently that of a ten-year-old,” Mina explained. “This has always troubled Princess Barbara, and her eccentric personality is related to this matter.”
Feng Qingyu nodded, no longer mocking her. “Barbara is quite pitiful, actually.”
“However, even though her appearance is stuck at ten years old, Princess Barbara is the Star Kingdom’s second-in-line to the throne. Her overall capability is second only to Her Highness Maggie.”
Recalling Barbara, red-faced and speechless from Maggie’s taunts, Feng Qingyu reserved judgment on that claim.
