The Savior Says She's Having a Breakdown - Chapter 21
Chapter 21: Barbara’s Attack (Part 2)
Barbara gradually calmed down after returning to her mansion. The more she thought about the day’s events, the more she felt something was amiss. “Judi, come to my study.”
Judi was Barbara’s Royal Guard Captain and also her strategist.
Having followed Barbara for a long time, Judi knew what was going on as soon as she saw her expression. “Did Your Highness visit Her Highness Maggie again today?”
Barbara looked down, fiddling with the ring on her finger. “I haven’t seen Fiona for my last few visits. But today, I saw a strange face—black hair and black eyes. Maggie said she was her guest—but I just feel like something isn’t right.”
Judi pondered for a moment and then said, “Perhaps your feeling is correct.”
Barbara looked up at her.
Judi continued, “I was classmates with Her Highness Maggie’s Hena for many years and know her very well. Given her personality, the probability of an unfamiliar third-class citizen suddenly appearing in Her Highness Maggie’s residence, and as a guest no less, is almost zero. Based on this, your subordinate has a bold guess.”
“Say it.”
“This person might not be from the Star Kingdom,” Judi lowered her voice. “She is a helper Her Highness Maggie brought back from the outside to help her resolve the Star Kingdom’s predicament.”
Barbara frowned, somewhat unconvinced. “Impossible, isn’t it? What use could she be, finding a third-class citizen?”
“The universe is vast. Perhaps Her Highness Maggie found a person with unique abilities from a place we don’t know, a place with a civilization more advanced than Planet Alpha.”
“Then—” Barbara was skeptical. “How can I find out if this person is the savior Maggie brought back?”
“Your Highness can pay this person a visit. Then, during the conversation, turn off the translation chip. If she’s not speaking the Star Kingdom’s common language, it can at least prove that she is not from the Star Kingdom.”
“Judi, you are too clever!” Barbara couldn’t help but stand up and give Judi a hug, but she could only reach her waist.
Judi was clearly used to such hugs and remained expressionless. “As for whether she is the savior Her Highness Maggie brought back, I believe Your Highness can easily extract that information.”
“Achoo—” Feng Qingyu rubbed her itchy nose, thinking her parents on Earth must be thinking about her, and suddenly felt a wave of homesickness.
“Look!”
Hena quickly leaned over upon hearing her. “What is it, Mina?”
“There seemed to be a fluctuation just now!” Mina’s tone was somewhat excited. She turned around and asked, “Miss Feng Qingyu, what was your emotion just now? Was it the ‘sadness’ we were testing?”
Feng Qingyu lay in the visualization instrument, recalling her emotion just now, and hesitated. “I don’t think so… it wasn’t.”
“Then what was it?”
What was it? Feng Qingyu was momentarily speechless. Just as she had said before, human emotions were too complex, and sometimes she couldn’t even distinguish what to call that fleeting moment of “emotion.” She only knew she missed home and her parents.
Hena saw her low mood, waved her hand, and asked Annie to help her down. She then patted Mina’s shoulder and said, “Perhaps she doesn’t know either. But having progress shows that the direction of our efforts is correct.”
Mina nodded. “Then what were you thinking about just now?”
“…My parents.”
“I see—” Mina narrowed her eyes, deep in thought.
Seeing that she had no immediate next step, Feng Qingyu exchanged glances with Hena and couldn’t help but ask, “Should we continue today?”
“Of—” The word on Hena’s lips circled back under Feng Qingyu’s gaze and turned into, “Can you still hold up?”
Feng Qingyu nodded. “I also want to resolve the issue here as quickly as possible and go home early.”
“Then let’s do it.” Mina turned back to face the monitor.
Annie discreetly came over to help Feng Qingyu into the visualization instrument. Hena stood by and asked, “How can we intensify your feelings for your parents?”
“I can only rely on myself. I’ll try hard to think.”
“Good.”
Feng Qingyu lay on the hard, slightly uncomfortable visualization instrument, trying hard to recall the time she spent with her parents.
The contradictions she could never understand with her parents in the past seemed to find a perfect answer in this process of recollection—”love.” Whether it was her parents’ praise or their reprimands, it was all out of “love.”
“I’m sorry.” Feng Qingyu took the tissue Hena handed her, wiping away her overflowing tears.
Mina turned around and tentatively asked, “Have you… reached your limit?”
Feng Qingyu nodded. “I’ve tried very hard to recall every detail from the past. It will be hard to feel any stronger.”
“It’s just that little bit more,” Mina sighed, calling up the images saved from the previous test to show Feng Qingyu and Hena. “Look, the black layer is about to break.”
“Let’s try again tomorrow.” Seeing the increasingly obvious white light spot, Feng Qingyu said, “I think this direction is correct. Maybe we just lack the right timing.”
“Great!” Seeing Feng Qingyu’s determination, Mina also felt a surge of motivation.
Knock, knock, knock, the laboratory door was knocked.
“Come in.”
Maggie walked in, her expression somewhat grim. “Barbara wants to see you.”
Feng Qingyu looked left and right, only realizing Maggie was talking to her. “Are you saying she wants to see… me?”
Maggie nodded. “She must have guessed something. But no matter what she says, I hope you remember our agreement.”
Feng Qingyu raised an eyebrow at her. “I believe my level of trustworthiness should be higher than yours.”
Maggie neither confirmed nor denied this, simply turning to walk out. “Follow me.”
In the spacious reception room, Nancy served tea and snacks and then retreated, leaving only Barbara and Feng Qingyu sitting face-to-face.
Adhering to the principle of “more talk, more mistakes; no talk, no mistakes,” Feng Qingyu decided not to speak unless Barbara did, subtly observing Barbara in the meantime.
With the same red hair and blue eyes as Maggie and Edris, her facial features were also quite similar upon closer inspection, though Barbara’s face was clearly still immature, looking very young. However, the air of haughty arrogance in her brow was not something a ten-year-old child would possess.
“Before we talk, please allow me to introduce myself: Barbara, Maggie’s sister, Her Majesty Edris’s daughter, the second-in-line to the Star Kingdom’s throne, and the leader of the Snap Dragon Legion.”
Feng Qingyu nodded, indicating she was listening. “Oh.”
Barbara frowned, clearly displeased with this attitude. “I’ve finished my introduction. It’s… your… turn.”
“Feng Qingyu, Maggie’s guest.”
“Your name is very strange. It doesn’t sound like a Star Kingdom name.”
“Ah? Yeah.” Since neither Maggie nor Hena had explicitly instructed her to conceal her identity, Feng Qingyu spoke vaguely, trying to gloss over it.
Unfortunately, this was exactly what Barbara had come for.
The finger resting on the communicator on her left wrist moved slightly. Barbara said, “Are you accustomed to living here with Maggie?”
“It’s alright.” Feng Qingyu couldn’t figure out her intention, so she tried to keep her answers ambiguous.
Unexpectedly, Barbara’s expression clearly became excited upon hearing this response.
Feng Qingyu watched her suddenly agitated expression, couldn’t help but guess: Hereditary mental instability?
“Miss Feng Qingyu, is that right?” Barbara’s mouth slowly curved up, and her tone became gentle. “I think perhaps we can discuss a transaction building upon the one you have with Maggie.”
“I,” Feng Qingyu said without hesitation, “refuse.”
