The Savior Says She's Having a Breakdown - Chapter 23
Chapter 23: Love is Truth
Hena, who had stayed up all night reading over a dozen novels, found Mina, who also had dark circles under her eyes. Yawning, she said, “The emotions of these Earthlings are so complicated. It turns out dating can have so many variations.”
Mina nodded in agreement. “Although she swore yesterday that this was impossible, after reading so many books last night, I think I understand a little bit about what ‘romantic love’ is. I think perhaps we still have hope.”
“But the main thing is, we need a specific person. Who would be suitable?”
“Yeah… who?” Mina yawned. Seeing Hena look at her, she quickly waved her hands. “Don’t look at me! I can’t do it! Your Royal Guard and Security Guard come to me every day with training injuries. I’m very busy.”
“But here, you are the person she is most familiar with. Don’t all these books talk about ‘love developing over time’?”
“It seems you are more familiar with her, aren’t you?”
Having shot herself in the foot, Hena falsely coughed twice. “…Well, let’s think again.”
“By the way, what were the names of those books you assigned me to read?” Mina thought for a moment, clearly failing to recall. She waved her hand. “Never mind, I can’t remember. Anyway, they all said that two people who initially disliked each other developed ‘romantic love’ during their quarrels. I think this kind of development is relatively fast and the love will be more intense. Perhaps we can consider candidates like that?”
Hena’s squinted eyes suddenly opened wide. “There is one, but that would mean—Her Highness?”
The two exchanged glances, and their muddled brains instantly sobered up completely—asking Maggie to have a mushy, romantic relationship with Feng Qingyu like in the novels? The scene was too beautiful to imagine.
However, in the end, the two of them, dark circles and all, stood at the entrance of Maggie’s study.
Hena looked at Mina, who was standing half a step behind her, moved aside to make room, and whispered, “You knock.”
“You knock.” Mina stood still, unmoving.
Hena persisted. “You are Her Highness’s private doctor; you are more familiar with Her Highness.”
Mina perfectly countered. “You are the Captain of the Royal Guard; you are even more familiar with Her Highness.”
Nancy walked over with tea and snacks, seeing the two of them standing at the door glaring at each other. He nodded and greeted them, “Captain Hena, Doctor Mina.” Then he walked between them and knocked on the study door.
“Enter.”
Nancy pushed the door open, and before closing it, he very “considerately” turned around and asked, “Are the two of you gentlemen not coming in?”
Maggie heard the sound and looked over, seeing Hena and Mina standing on either side of the door like door gods. “Is something the matter?”
The two, unprepared, could only meekly enter.
After Nancy set down the items and closed the door, Maggie put down the book in her hand, waiting for the two to report to her. However, after waiting and waiting for them to speak, she became slightly displeased. “Did you come to my study to be statues?”
“It is like this—” Hena lowered her head, her voice soft and tentative, and she explained her idea. Fearing the temptation wasn’t enough, she added, “If Feng Qingyu truly develops ‘romantic love’ for Your Highness, she might also develop ‘universal love’ for Planet Alpha, after all, there’s a saying on Earth: ‘Love the house and the crow on its roof.’ This way, we can confirm all possibilities.”
Maggie listened expressionlessly, remaining silent.
Hena and Mina secretly glanced at her, their hearts trembling with fear.
Just as the two thought they had stepped on a landmine, Maggie finally spoke. “I understand.”
Mina yawned incessantly, nodding her head like a chicken pecking rice, yet her thinking brain couldn’t stop. “What does ‘I understand’ mean, Your Highness?”
“Perhaps we will know the answer in a couple of days.” Hena stood up and patted Mina on the head. “Alright, you go rest for a while. I’m going to the training grounds. There will inevitably be people coming to the infirmary to bother you soon.”
“That dedicated?” Mina waved her hand to indicate she understood. As soon as the door closed, she didn’t even bother to change her clothes and instantly fell asleep.
Feng Qingyu, who finally had entertainment activities after being away from Earth for so long, rushed back to her room immediately after eating. Standing, sitting, lying down, lying on her stomach… she read one book after another, in whatever position was comfortable.
“Ah—that’s refreshing!” She crawled out of bed, looked at the faint yellow sunset outside the window, stretched, and changed her clothes, preparing to eat dinner. “I was never this carefree even in college. One should always look on the bright side. ‘A loss may turn out to be a gain.'”
In the dining room, Hena still looked exhausted. Mina looked somewhat better after resting at noon, while Yuna looked worriedly at the empty main seat at the dining table.
Feng Qingyu was startled by the low pressure of the group as soon as she entered. “What’s wrong with all of you? You didn’t go out and lose a battle, did you?”
Yuna shook her head. “No. It’s just that Her Highness has been a bit unusual today. She had Nancy deliver her dinner to her room. I’m a little worried.”
Feng Qingyu highly respected her loyalty and nodded to show she understood. “Then what’s with the two of you? Hena, did you go to the zoo to play the role of a national treasure?”
“Huh?”
“I forgot you don’t know what a panda is,” Accustomed to joking with friends, and with the translation chip eliminating the language barrier, she often had the illusion that the other person would understand what she said. Feng Qingyu thought for a moment and changed her question. “Did you two go out stealing last night?”
“No.”
Seeing that the two were evasive and unwilling to talk, Feng Qingyu wisely shut up and focused on eating. But she was still curious about what exactly happened last night that caused both Hena and Mina to have dark circles under their eyes and for Maggie to break the mansion’s rules and dine in her bedroom.
The next day, without waiting for Hena and Mina to come looking for her, Maggie preemptively summoned everyone to the conference hall with a communicator message.
“I’ve made up my mind.”
The abrupt statement startled the three who had rushed over, thinking something major had happened. “What?”
“The matter you brought up yesterday.”
Yuna, the only one who didn’t know what was going on, asked, “What matter yesterday?”
“The proposal to have a romantic relationship with Feng Qingyu, I agree to it.”
Seeing her expression of heroic sacrifice, Hena felt a twinge of guilt. “Your Highness doesn’t have to force yourself—”
“Don’t try to dissuade me. For the sake of the Star Kingdom, I have no reason to refuse.”
Exchanging a glance with Mina, Hena nodded and flattered her. “Your Highness is wise and righteous!”
“However—”
The three flinched at the turn.
Her voice was deliberately lowered, and Maggie looked somewhat embarrassed. “I don’t know what to do.”
“That’s not a problem. I believe Hena definitely has a plan!” Mina heard this and immediately guaranteed Maggie with certainty.
Hena, dragged in as collateral, forced a smile. “…Yes, Your Highness. I will devise the most effective plan for you.”
“Are you two crazy?” After the meeting, Yuna pulled the two into a corner, her face full of disbelief. “Anyone but Her Highness! Why her?”
“It’s like this: The first rule of Earth’s dating theory is: The person must be of extraordinary background. Aside from Her Highness, do we have any other suitable candidates here?”
“Hena is right,” Mina nodded in agreement. “And the second rule of Earth’s dating theory is: The two people must initially clash and then spend a long time together.”
Yuna, who hadn’t been exposed to Earth’s novels, believed them. “So that’s how it is. It seems only Her Highness has this capability. So, what are you planning to do?”
“I found that although the plots of those novels are very different, there are common threads upon close summarization. I think these common threads should be the most crucial parts.”
“Then I leave it to you!” Yuna said very formally, with a sense of solemnity befitting an important ceremony.
Hena proved worthy of being Maggie’s strategist and secretary. After another all-nighter, Maggie received a proposal with a very formal title—The Final Plan of Action to Save the Star Kingdom, with the subtitle, “Her Highness Maggie’s Dating Guide.”
“I. What is ‘Romantic Love’?
“Romantic Love, a unique emotion of Earthlings…”
Maggie skimmed over this type of definitional content and flipped the page.
“II. What kind of people is ‘Romantic Love’ most likely to occur in?”
Maggie’s brow furrowed, but she still skipped this section.
“III. Several forms of expression of ‘Romantic Love.'”
The eyebrows, which had been getting closer, struggled for a moment and finally twisted together. Hena, at the training grounds, also received a message: Come to my study, immediately!
“What’s the matter with you?”
“Don’t worry, Your Highness,” Hena said unhurriedly. “Lack of patience is the most avoided thing during the process of ‘dating.’ The content written at the beginning of the plan is, firstly, to temper Your Highness’s patience in matters outside of military affairs, and secondly, the content truly is helpful to you.”
With Hena’s explanation, Maggie’s twisted eyebrows returned to their normal positions, but her tone was still somewhat displeased. “We don’t have that much time.”
“Your Highness, ‘sharpening the tool doesn’t delay the work’ is an Earth proverb. What we are doing now is all preparation for the final success. It doesn’t waste time; on the contrary, it aids our progress.”
After a moment of silence, Maggie finally returned to her usual tone. “You go back and rest. Have Yuna watch the training grounds herself today.”
“Thank you, Your Highness.”
