The Savior Says She's Having a Breakdown - Chapter 25
Chapter 25: Love Contract (Part 2)
“Now, I need to make one thing clear: Do not interrupt me while I’m speaking. If you have any questions, please raise your hand. I will nod my approval, and then you may ask your question. Understood?”
The four people nodded, indicating they understood.
Feng Qingyu suddenly felt an urge to put on a formal suit, put on glasses, grab a pointer, stand up, and pace back and forth.
Suppressing this impulse, she said, “The first point we need to discuss is, what is ‘love.’ Love is a human emotion. In terms of degree, it is higher than ‘like.’ You know what ‘like’ is, right?”
The four people sitting below nodded obediently. However, Hena then shook her head. She was about to speak but remembered Feng Qingyu’s initial instruction. She raised both hands above her head, one on each side.
Blaming herself for not being clear, Feng Qingyu smiled wryly. “You only need to raise one hand. Raising both hands on Earth has a meaning that’s… not so good.”
Hena nodded, put down her hand, and said, “I have a question: Although the Star Kingdom also has a term for ‘like,’ our ‘like’ might be different from your ‘like,’ since the translation chip translates some non-existent vocabulary into similar terms.”
Remembering the translation of the Dark Night Rose, Feng Qingyu nodded, resigned, and started from “like.” “Liking a person often originates from hormones; it is a physiological response. This physiology then influences the psychology. You feel joy when you see them and sadness when you don’t. When you first become attracted, your chest feels like a deer is frantically running, and your face feels like it’s being roasted by fire. You dare not make eye contact with them, and just speaking a word to them makes you feel physically and mentally delighted…”
The four people listened, simultaneously opening the recording function on their communicators, like diligent students taking notes.
Seeing this scene, Feng Qingyu felt a sense of gratification at being a teacher. Her tone of speech gradually became more sincere. “Love, on the other hand, builds upon liking, adding more endurance, more tolerance, and… a greater sense of responsibility.”
The four people collectively shook their heads, indicating they didn’t understand.
Feng Qingyu had to rack her brain, trying to figure out how to explain it more clearly. However, the more she thought about it, the more she felt her initial idea was too presumptuous. How could something like love be clearly summarized in just a few sentences!
After all, for Earthlings, the process of understanding “love” is very long, accompanying one’s growth. To summarize it quickly is truly a difficult task.
After much deliberation, Feng Qingyu simply said, “Love is when I am willing to accept their flaws, willing to grow old with them, willing to change for them. In short, love is I am willing to accept everything about them, and I am willing for them to have everything about me.”
The four people nodded, half-understanding.
Mina raised her hand. After Feng Qingyu nodded, she asked, “Then, are sending flowers, dining, and sightseeing useful for romantic love?”
“The novels mention a hidden premise for being able to like or even love someone just by sending flowers, dining, and watching movies, which is having a good impression of the other person. Under this condition, doing some romantic things stimulates the secretion of hormones, and the good impression will gradually turn into liking, and liking will turn into love.”
Mina continued to ask, “Does that mean the romances described in those novels we read are all fake?”
“Not necessarily. Love requires a ‘catalyst,’ and the catalyst for falling in love is different for everyone. Some people might fall in love with the person who cares for them just because they were cared for. Some people might fall in love with the person who saved their life during a crisis. Others might suddenly realize that someone they interact with daily is worthy of love, and so they love them… The situations are complex and need to be discussed separately. The tropes written in the novels are not wrong and apply to many people, but they don’t apply to everyone, like me, for example.”
Mina nodded, then asked, “Then why did the people in those books I read, who initially disliked each other, end up falling in love?”
Feng Qingyu felt like she was currently running a dating seminar. “People who initially disliked each other might have done so because of a misunderstanding. When the misunderstanding is resolved, they find the other person is actually not bad. Gradually, through their interactions, they discover that the person is compatible with them and treats them well, and they slowly fall in love.”
Mina nodded, indicating she had no further questions.
Maggie then honestly raised her hand. After Feng Qingyu nodded, she asked, “Then, for you, how would you fall in love with someone?”
Being asked this question by Maggie, Feng Qingyu felt it was somehow strange. She initially didn’t want to answer, but under the expectant gazes of the four, she said, “Because of my country’s culture, I believe in ‘fate’ more. As long as that person is ‘the one,’ no matter what they do or even if they do nothing, I will fall in love with them.”
Hena asked, “What does ‘fate’ mean?”
Feng Qingyu raised an eyebrow and replied, “It means: ordained by heaven, something you cannot force.”
“Then your coming to the Star Kingdom is also fate.”
“Something like that.” Feng Qingyu didn’t refute it. Anyway, these aliens wouldn’t know what “a doomed fate” was.
“Since it’s fate, is it possible that heaven has ordained that you will fall in love with someone from the Star Kingdom?”
Feng Qingyu quickly sent a triple denial to Hena’s question. “No, impossible, don’t talk nonsense.”
“Then if it’s not your ‘fate,’ is it possible you would still fall in love?”
“No.” The dating seminar gradually turned into a gossip press conference. Feng Qingyu felt a little helpless. “I think you can truly give up on your plan. Loving someone is not as easy as the novels make it out to be. Even if some people say, ‘I love you,’ it doesn’t mean they truly have that love in their hearts.”
“Oh, alright,” Hena said. “However, I learned that Earthlings don’t necessarily love only one person in their lifetime. Are you truly not considering having a relationship with Her Highness?”
“No!” Feng Qingyu nearly went crazy. Did these people even listen to what she said?
“Even if in this relationship, you might awaken your divine power, receive meticulous care, gain the respect of everyone in the mansion, and have someone accompany you to tour the beautiful landscapes of the Star Kingdom, comfort you when you’re sad, and celebrate with you when you’re happy…”
Her strong conviction wavered slightly. “No…”
Hena smiled faintly. “If you don’t try, how will you know you definitely won’t fall in love with Her Highness? How about we make a bet?”
“Bet what?” As soon as the words left her mouth, Feng Qingyu regretted it: Why do you never learn! It’s such an obvious challenge, and you still fall for it!
“We bet on whether you will fall in love with Her Highness after giving it your all.”
“What are the stakes?”
“If you don’t fall in love with Her Highness by the time you leave, I lose. Then, regardless of whether our cooperation is complete, you can take any item from the Star Kingdom, excluding the shield generator, when you leave. If you fall in love with Her Highness, you lose. You set the stakes.”
Feng Qingyu felt certain she would win, so she casually said, “If I lose, then I won’t return to Earth.”
“Alright. To ensure the validity of this bet, let’s sign a contract.”
“Does it have to be so formal?”
“Yes. Wait for me a moment. I’ll draft it right away.”
Watching Hena focus on her handheld computer, Feng Qingyu soon received a contract on her communicator, which had been automatically translated into Chinese.
After a quick glance, Feng Qingyu had to pay the price for her thoughtless impulsiveness.
“Happy to cooperate.”
Mina looked at Feng Qingyu, who had been cleverly tricked into signing the contract, and shot Hena a look of appreciation.
Feng Qingyu was still regretting her impulsiveness.
“I will study hard.”
Hearing Maggie say this, Feng Qingyu didn’t know how to react. She simply stood up and walked out. “Hena, come here.”
Hena looked at Maggie. After receiving a nod, she followed her out.
“I don’t know why you are so insistent on choosing Maggie. Can I request to change the person?”
“I apologize. Our bet and contract are specifically targeted at Her Highness. It can no longer be changed.” Hena was successful in her plot, a smile perpetually on her lips. “Actually, Her Highness is not what you imagine.”
Feng Qingyu sighed. “What do I imagine? I haven’t imagined anything about her.”
“To use your Earth language, Her Highness is actually a person with great ‘personal charisma.'”
As if hearing a huge joke, Feng Qingyu looked at her in disbelief. “Do you have some misunderstanding of ‘personal charisma’?”
“To us,” Hena added, “Her Highness has numerous military merits and is very friendly to her subordinates. We follow her with genuine sincerity. And once Her Highness decides to do something, she will definitely strive to do it the best way. Perhaps in this bet, you won’t walk away with absolutely no gain.”
Feng Qingyu raised an eyebrow. “If you had received an Earth education, I think you would be even more glib than you are now.”
“Thank you for the compliment.”
She was suddenly curious about how the translator rendered “glib,” but the language barrier forced Feng Qingyu to give up. “Never mind. Let’s go back and see if anyone else has anything to say.”
“Thank you!” Hena suddenly bowed to Feng Qingyu.
This startled Feng Qingyu. “Your sudden…”
“I apologize for startling you. Let’s go in.”
