The Savior Says She's Having a Breakdown - Chapter 26
Chapter 26: Seeking the Truth (Part 1)
Feng Qingyu, who had been tricked into signing the so-called “dating contract,” sighed after much deliberation and couldn’t help but say, “I know you’re doing this to help me awaken as soon as possible, but we can’t put all our eggs in one basket, can we?”
Mina blinked, her emotion utterly sincere: “But so far, this is the only method we’ve found that works on you.”
“Then… with technology so advanced, haven’t you tried using artificial means to solve this in the past three years?”
Hena looked at Margie. Seeing the latter nod in agreement, she said, “We once tried to analyze the composition of the spring water to see if we could artificially create a new spring water with the same effect, but… we failed.”
Mina, who was previously part of the analysis and research team, nodded and said, “We have done multiple analyses. The composition of the spring water is similar to other water sources in the Star Kingdom, and we didn’t find any unique substances. However, when we tested it with an energy tester, we found that only the spring water contains enormous energy.”
“Then have you considered investigating the source? For example… what exactly caused the spring water level to gradually drop and dry up?” Feng Qingyu asked. “I’ve noticed the water usage at Margie’s residence. Alpha Star doesn’t seem to have a problem with water scarcity. Based on the theoretical basis on Earth, spring water is groundwater and shouldn’t dry up so easily.”
Hena explained, “The spring water of the Star Kingdom is also groundwater. This is the same as on Earth. However, after the incident, the investigation of the water source was arranged by His Majesty, and we have no right to interfere. The Spirit Spring is guarded by the Imperial Guard, who only take orders from His Majesty. Unless there is His Majesty’s decree and approval from relevant departments, no one can approach the Spirit Spring.”
“Then how do you… have children when you want to?”
“The Star Kingdom has a specialized agency. When a person wants to have offspring, they can go and fill out an application form and submit it. Then a specialized official will review it. After the approval, another specialized official will take the application form and His Majesty’s decree to the Spirit Spring, retrieve the corresponding amount of spring water, seal it up, and then issue it one by one,” Hena explained, then added, “Of course, since the Spirit Spring dried up, the officials in this system have all become unemployed people collecting relief funds.”
Seeing the atmosphere getting a little heavy, Feng Qingyu changed the topic: “On a side note, why didn’t you store more spring water beforehand? At least it could alleviate the current thirst.”
“The Star Kingdom has a decree that no individual, agency, department, or organization is allowed to store spring water without authorization.”
Feng Qingyu nodded, somewhat understanding the purpose of this ban, but then thought: “That’s not right. Since there’s such a decree, where did the spring water you used for research come from?”
“When Her Highness discovered that the spring water level was dropping, she took precautions and sent people to… steal some,” fearing Feng Qingyu would press further, Hena quickly said, “Of course, the amount was small, only for our research use, and it did not violate the Star Kingdom’s law against giving birth.”
Feng Qingyu hurriedly nodded: “Got it, got it. I won’t misunderstand.”
Hena then breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at her.
“By the way, I have one more question.” Feng Qingyu had an indescribable feeling since Yuna first told her about the reproduction situation on Alpha Star. She always felt like she had overlooked something. Just then, a bird momentarily landed on the conference room windowsill, its chirping graceful, which suddenly made her realize it.
“Please ask.”
“Are you sure not a single new human has been born in the Star Kingdom in the past three years?” Seeing them nod, Feng Qingyu continued, “But what about animals? Have you paid attention to them? I remember Yuna once told me that Alpha Star doesn’t even have male animals.”
“Yes, Alpha Star only has female creatures.”
“Since the spring water is heavily guarded, have you considered how the animals reproduce? They can’t possibly all go to the spring, drink a sip, and then reproduce, can they? Moreover, I just saw two birds on the windowsill. The smaller one doesn’t seem very old and must have been born after your spring dried up. So, what did you overlook in this process?”
As the words fell, silence descended upon the conference room.
The silence grew longer. Feng Qingyu guessed they were probably reflecting, and raised an eyebrow: “Alpha Star might need broader development, such as—biology.”
“I think you are right, Miss.” Mina said, “Your Highness, I want to return to the laboratory to see if we truly overlooked something back then.”
Margie nodded: “The meeting ends here today. Let’s go have dinner.”
Feng Qingyu skipped happily towards the restaurant: If her suggestion led to a breakthrough, it meant that the bet wouldn’t have to be carried out. Nothing could be better!
Night, the laboratory lights were brightly lit.
Margie put on the same light-green lab coat and watched Mina lead her subordinates in experiments with a serious expression.
Yuna stood behind, whispering to Hena: “If we make progress here, then Her Highness’s matter with Feng Qingyu can be dropped, right?”
“Two-pronged approach is safer.”
“But Her Highness…”
“Shh, I actually think it might be a good thing to use this opportunity for Her Highness to learn ‘love.’ If Feng Qingyu can genuinely create male humans for the Star Kingdom in the end, then I think the Star Kingdom could adopt the development model of Earth’s humans in the future.”
“But Earth’s level is too primitive.”
“Do you remember my answer when you asked me why Feng Qingyu’s parents were so worried about her?”
“You said… maybe that’s the reason why Earthlings are backward but can still multiply endlessly?”
“Yes, I didn’t know what that reason was back then, but now I know: it’s ‘love.’ Different kinds of love appearing in different relationships.”
Yuna was about to say something else when she heard Mina say, “I got it!”
Hena and Yuna quickly gathered around.
“We conducted energy reaction tests on various types of water inside and outside the residence. We finally found that any water source that has been permeated by groundwater possesses the same energy as the Spirit Spring. But—”
This sudden turn made everyone’s hearts jump to their throats.
“The energy in these water sources is very weak and is not enough to cause pregnancy in humans, but it might be sufficient for animals.”
Hena asked, “So, animals have always been relying on the water sources where the Spirit Spring’s energy dispersed through the groundwater to reproduce?”
Mina nodded: “That should be the case. Therefore, I now have a somewhat pessimistic guess.”
Margie said, “Speak.”
“If the energy in other water sources really permeated from the Spirit Spring through the groundwater, then now that the Spirit Spring has dried up, the energy in other water sources will also slowly weaken until it disappears.”
Yuna heard this and said sadly, “That is to say, we still only have Feng Qingyu as our only hope?”
“Undoubtedly.” Mina’s emotions were low.
Margie took off her green lab coat and walked out: “I understand.”
“Your Highness?” Yuna hurriedly took off her green lab coat and followed.
“Hena, based on the content Feng Qingyu mentioned today, quickly draw up a new plan.”
“Yes, Your Highness.” Hena stood still and watched Margie leave.
Only Hena and Mina were left in the laboratory.
Mina lay on the table, her head resting on her arms, looking glum: “But now Feng Qingyu is very resistant to our plan. Is there really still hope?”
Hena rubbed her head and comforted her: “There’s a saying on Earth, ‘Dripping water can pierce a stone.’ I believe that one day, she will be moved by us.”
“Will she really? I’ve been learning about Earth’s culture recently. They also have a saying, ‘Those not of our kind are bound to have different motives!'”
“But they also have a saying, ‘Saving a life is better than building a seven-story pagoda.'”
Mina sighed with emotion: “It really is contradictory—”
“Earthlings call it ‘diversity,'” Hena said. “No wonder Earth, despite its primitive technology, can possess dozens of different regional cultures.”
“Do you think a higher level of technology is always better?”
“Why do you ask that?”
“Look at the Star Kingdoms in the nearby galaxies. Their technology and military levels are similar and far superior to Earth, but compared to Earthlings, we seem to be on a decline. Whether it’s in human population or… cultural richness.”
Hena shrugged: “Perhaps it has nothing to do with technology or military.”
“Then what is it?”
“Aren’t you also studying Earth’s culture? Think about it yourself.” Hena smiled, stood up, and said, “I’ll go back and look at the data first, to figure out how to strategize for Her Highness again. But I think Feng Qingyu had a good idea today. Perhaps we really should find a way to investigate the reason why the Spirit Spring dried up. Perhaps—and I mean perhaps—the Spirit Spring can return to its former glory?”
“Then I apologize for the trouble.”
