Chapter 31: Withered and Flourishing Spiritual Spring (Part 2)
The moment Feng Qingyu stepped into the lobby, she was stopped by Nancy: “Miss, please wait a moment.”
Still irritated, Feng Qingyu’s tone was sharp: “What is it?”
“There is still mud on your shoes. If you go in like this, you will step it everywhere. Please sit here and wait a moment. Let me go to your room and get you a change of shoes,” Nancy said softly.
“No need, let her in,” Margie, who had followed her in, waved her hand. “We’ll find someone to clean it up later.”
Feng Qingyu felt a little embarrassed by her statement and huffed, “No, please bother to fetch me another pair.”
Watching Feng Qingyu obediently sitting there waiting for Nancy to fetch her shoes, Margie looked thoughtful.
Nancy proved worthy of being a professional housekeeper from a prestigious school. In a short while, she returned with a maid, who was carrying a pair of comfortable new shoes.
The maid walked over and immediately squatted down, ready to help Feng Qingyu change her shoes.
Feng Qingyu, who couldn’t stand this, quickly pulled the maid up and bent down to change the shoes herself.
The maid could only look at Margie and then Nancy. Seeing that neither had any objections, she finally took the replaced shoes to clean them.
Feng Qingyu had planned to go straight back to her room, but as she passed the conference room, she suddenly remembered that three people were waiting for her. She turned and entered the conference room.
Seeing her enter, Hena quickly asked, “How was your clearing-your-mind session? Do you have any inspiration?”
Feng Qingyu scoffed: “Clearing my mind? I think it was more like getting vexed. Forget it, let’s not talk about it. But as for inspiration, yes, I have some.”
Mina also came closer: “What is it?”
“It’s a pity it won’t necessarily rain tomorrow.”
“What?” Yuna was confused about her sudden jump in topic to rain.
Margie, who had followed Feng Qingyu in, understood: “Got it. I’ll take care of the rain.”
This made Yuna even more bewildered.
Seeing Yuna’s dazed expression, Feng Qingyu’s anger subsided slightly: “I went to the garden just now, and it had just been watered. I was lost in thought and stepped right into a patch, bringing out mud on my shoe. Understand now?”
Hena and Mina suddenly realized, but Yuna still looked out of the loop.
The next day, Feng Qingyu, in a white knee-length suit-style skirt set, paired with a pair of earth-toned small boots, holding a small lace-edged umbrella, boarded Idith’s car under the watchful eyes of everyone.
“What a coincidence, it’s raining today.”
Feng Qingyu closed her umbrella and gave Idith a polite smile: “Yes, thank you for making the trip for me.”
“As long as it solves your bottleneck, one extra trip is no trouble.”
“Then thank you in advance.” Feng Qingyu never liked dealing with elders since she was a child. Feng Yi once told her she would suffer in her future career because of it. Now, let alone dealing with elders, she was adept at dealing with aliens and even the ruler of an alien nation.
Indeed, human potential is often forced out. What was social awkwardness? What was difficulty adapting? In the face of survival, all difficulties are paper tigers!
After exchanging pleasantries with Idith for several minutes, the car stopped.
The guards got out first and opened the doors for the two of them. Declining the guard’s help, Feng Qingyu held her own umbrella and followed Idith toward what looked very much like a park gate.
After passing through five checkpoints, Feng Qingyu finally arrived at the legendary sacred Kuro Spring of Life—next to a dry, barren pit. Although Hena had generally described it, seeing it in person was simpler and more crude than expected!
However, calling it barren wasn’t entirely accurate. Because of the rain, the soil in the pit looked somewhat loose, but the fact that such a large pit had no accumulated water at all was indeed miraculous.
Feng Qingyu looked around and said, “May I go down and have a look?”
After passing five checkpoints, Idith also felt that she couldn’t pull any tricks and readily agreed: “Go ahead. Be careful not to slip.”
Feng Qingyu, supported by a guard, cautiously stepped into the waist-deep pit. As soon as she stood firm, a sudden wave of dizziness hit her, which disappeared after a moment.
This was a very inconvenient time for low bl00d pressure. Thinking this, Feng Qingyu began to observe the spring source.
Unlike the one she had seen when she returned to her rural hometown, this spring source had no stones around it. The soil inside the entire pit looked extremely fine, as fine as dough that had been kneaded.
Idith stood above, looking down at her: “How is it? Did you sense anything?”
Stomping a few times forcefully, Feng Qingyu felt her small boots were much heavier than before. She looked up and replied, “Some feelings that are hard to describe.”
“Do you want to continue looking for a while?”
“No, the weather isn’t great today. Let’s head back early.” Feng Qingyu extended her hand, signaling the guard to pull her up. “Hey? Is this tree… dead?”
Idith glanced at the dead towering tree nearby but did not answer.
Feng Qingyu wisely shut up.
When getting into the car, the guard looked at the mud sticking to Feng Qingyu’s shoes, hesitating to speak.
Feng Qingyu smiled innocently: “Sorry about that.”
Perhaps the previous question from Feng Qingyu reminded Idith of something. Her mood was somewhat low, and she didn’t pay attention to the situation here, simply saying, “Let’s go.”
The car drove into the manor courtyard. Before getting out, Feng Qingyu deliberately took out her handkerchief and wiped the mud off the car’s doorframe. She turned back and smiled at Idith: “Thank you for today. Please come to the manor as our guest when you have time.”
Idith returned a smile: “Alright. I hope to hear your good news soon.”
Seeing the car drive out of the gate, Feng Qingyu quickly called Hena’s communicator: “Hurry, come here!”
Three figures rushed out of the house.
Feng Qingyu took the clean shoes and changed into them. Mina immediately placed the mud-covered pair into a prepared container, afraid of losing even a speck of dirt.
As she walked towards the house, Feng Qingyu caught sight of a dark-red figure turning and walking away inside the doorway. An indescribable feeling welled up in her heart, making her feel even angrier.
Hena didn’t know why she was fine a moment ago and was now upset again. She quickly changed the subject: “Did His Majesty suspect anything?”
Feng Qingyu shook her head: “I just casually asked if the tree next to the Spirit Spring was dead, and her mood immediately changed. I had only planned to bring back the mud from the bottom of my shoe, but because she wasn’t paying attention, I also brought back the mud from the sides.”
Hena took the now dirty handkerchief from her hand and casually tossed it into the container Mina was holding.
Mina said, “We can talk about the tree later. Do you want to come to the lab?”
“Of course. I want to be the first to know if the things I brought back are useful.”
“It definitely will be useful!” Yuna, still immersed in the excitement of Feng Qingyu’s simple and crude problem-solving method, exclaimed.
As for why this simplest and most crude method wasn’t thought of initially, Hena explained: “We’ve used high-tech products for too long and forgot about the most fundamental things.”
And Feng Qingyu said: “Seeing you use so much high-tech, you forgot that on Earth, many crime investigation shows use this method.”
As for the sudden and timely rain, Mina explained: “Although using high-tech too much can cause fixed thinking, it’s still very useful a lot of the time.”
Inside the laboratory’s inner room, only a few core technology personnel led by Mina, along with Feng Qingyu and Margie, remained.
A small lump of soil was scraped from the sole of the shoe and divided into several portions by Mina to be analyzed for composition by others.
Mina then sat down to listen to Feng Qingyu describe the environment near the Spirit Spring.
“I thought there would be a lot of small stones and specifically wore these shoes with complex sole patterns designed to catch small stones, but I didn’t expect the area around the spring source to be all this fine soil,” Feng Qingyu said. “The spring source is inside a deep pit. I don’t know if this pit was dug by people or naturally formed. Not far from the spring source, there is an artificial pond used to store spring water.”
Margie nodded: “I’ve heard of it.”
Remembering that the person in front of her once sent people to steal the spring water and must know about these things, Feng Qingyu asked again, “Then do you know anything about the tree next to the spring water?”
