The Savior Says She's Having a Breakdown - Chapter 32
Chapter 32: The Hidden Truth (Part 1)
Without surprise, everyone shook their heads.
“What tree?”
Feng Qingyu recalled: “A towering tree, very large. Anyway, I’ve never seen one that big before, but it looked withered. I even asked your King if the tree was dead, and her mood immediately changed. Why, don’t you know anything about it?”
Hena knew what she meant and shook her head: “The person who went at the time went at night, and they ran off after stealing the spring water, so they definitely didn’t notice.”
Unexpectedly, Maggie suddenly interjected: “Mother once told Barbara and me a story.”
Feng Qingyu retorted crossly: “What story? Is it related to the tree?”
“Mhm,” Maggie said. “Legend has it that in a certain kingdom, there was an ancient tree of unknown age that could lead to the heavens. The King’s daughter claimed to be the reincarnation of the tree spirit. The King’s daughter loved to play under the tree since childhood, and even when she grew up and had many lessons, she would hide in the tree to escape…”
“So?”
“Before Barbara, Mother had another daughter, who was fifteen years older than me.”
Feng Qingyu suddenly felt like a protagonist in a palace drama privy to royal secrets. As for why not a supporting character supporting characters who knew these things usually ended up dead.
“I remember Mother saying her name was Debbie. She was an excellent heir to the throne, but unfortunately, when she was seven, she was kidnapped by interstellar bandits.”
Although the story was serious, Feng Qingyu couldn’t help but complain about the name internally… It was indeed Idith’s style of naming.
Hena was close in age to Debbie and had vague memories of what Margie was saying: “I also heard about this from my mother. Princess Debbie was kidnapped when she was seven, and the kidnappers demanded a ransom, but His Majesty ordered that no one be allowed to pay the ransom, which led to—”
Maggie nodded: “Mother regrets that decision very much.”
“What does this have to do with that tree? Could Debbie be the daughter in the story? But that tree is next to the Spirit Spring, which has five checkpoints!”
“Since childhood, Debbie possessed Mother’s decree and token, allowing her free access to the heavily guarded Spirit Spring area because she loved that tree,” Maggie said. “The daughter in the story once said, ‘As long as I live, the tree lives; my death means the tree’s demise.'”
Feng Qingyu nodded, finally knowing why Idith’s mood was off today. However, she didn’t understand: “What reason could possibly make your King abandon the daughter who could freely enter the heavily guarded Spirit Spring area?”
This time, everyone, including Maggie, shook their heads: “Mother has never mentioned it.”
Mina saw the atmosphere getting heavy and quickly said, “I’ll go check on the experiment.”
Meanwhile, Feng Qingyu, connecting the ages of Barbara and Maggie, had already mentally concocted a major drama: the most beloved daughter was murdered by the kidnappers. So, another daughter was raised, but unfortunately, the second daughter suffered a serious illness and was left with physical and mental aftereffects. Thus came the third daughter, Margie, but sadly, the third daughter turned out to be a cold-blooded brute…
Alas, Idith’s fate was truly tragic.
Just as Feng Qingyu’s inner monologue reached Idith’s old age, Mina entered: “The results of the experiment won’t be out for a few more days. Everyone should go back first.”
“I’ll walk you out.”
“Stay away from me. I don’t want to be infuriated to death prematurely.” With that, Feng Qingyu walked away without looking back.
Hena saw this and leaned in to ask, “Is Her Highness fighting with Miss Feng Qingyu again?”
Maggie shook her head, looking bewildered: “It’s one-sided. I don’t know what happened.”
Hena understood: “I’ll go talk to her.”
“Are you and Her Highness having another spat?”
“Correction, it’s not a spat; it’s disliking her.” Feng Qingyu internally rejected the term “spat,” which sounded too much like flirtatious bickering.
“Alright, it’s disliking her,” Hena shrugged, accepting the term readily. “Then may I ask what Her Highness did this time to make you so hateful and angry?”
“It’s her rotten ideology again! Bullying the weak and being despicable! Oppressing subordinates! Don’t the Third Class citizens have human rights?” Talking about it fueled Feng Qingyu’s anger. She then poured out everything that happened that day.
“Actually, on this matter, perhaps you should reflect on yourself.”
“Are you kidding me?”
“On every planet, the law of nature is ‘survival of the fittest.’ The strong will have more and better resources. As far as I know, it’s the same on your Earth,” Hena said. “Her Highness was born into a position of strength, and the formation of her thought patterns is entirely based on the identity of a strong person. Perhaps this statement is somewhat unpleasant to you, but think about it: in your views on certain issues, do you automatically adopt the position of the weak and subjectively judge that the weak must have been oppressed? Why not consider that the strong provides a sanctuary for the weak?”
Feng Qingyu, hit hard by the truth, was silent for a moment before saying: “I don’t mind the strong having better resources, but that doesn’t mean they can ignore the human rights of the weak! And based on my understanding of you, isn’t it normal for the weak to be oppressed by you? The internal melees in the star system, and later the invasion and occupation of other planets you yourselves have a history of wrongdoing. Don’t blame me for subjective judgment.”
“If you’re talking about the internal situation of the Star Kingdom in the past, I cannot refute that. But since His Majesty began her reign, discrimination against the First, Second, and Third Class citizens has weakened significantly. Just like Mina, Yuna, and I have the same opportunities as the First Class citizens. And Her Highness, though not good at expressing herself, has never oppressed the maids, gardeners, or even the common people of the entire Star Kingdom. In fact, those who have worked at Her Highness’s residence do not wish to leave. As for interstellar matters, I still stand by my statement: if it weren’t for their own country, no one would willingly start a war, even knowing they would win.”
“Is that so? I doubt it. That day, I merely dirtied my shoes, and the gardener was trembling with fear…”
“I must clarify this point. You can ask them yourself if you don’t believe me. Aside from the Legion and Guard training, no one at the residence has been physically punished by Her Highness. Maids and gardeners who make mistakes are only fined, or at most, dismissed,” Hena explained. “I think the gardener’s fear was probably directed at you I admit that there are indeed many inequalities still present in the Star Kingdom today, but I guarantee there are none here at Her Highness’s residence.”
“You still say there are none? What about when I was kidnapped…”
“Her Highness was indeed wrong in that matter. I don’t deny it, and neither does Her Highness. At the time, she was simply too focused on the future of the Star Kingdom, leading her to lack reason in her actions, which resulted in those wrong moves towards you. Her Highness has been reflecting on this. If you still feel you cannot let it go, retaliation is also an option,” Hena said calmly.
After Hena’s defense, Feng Qingyu surprisingly felt somewhat at fault: “Did I really misunderstand?”
Hena nodded and added, “Her Highness is fundamentally not a bad person, and she is making even more changes for you now. When will you be able to cast aside your prejudice against Her Highness?”
“Why?” Feng Qingyu was puzzled.
“Perhaps Her Highness also yearns for the ‘equality and freedom’ environment you speak of.”
Feng Qingyu felt like she had heard the biggest joke: “How could that be?” An absolute superior with vast power yearning for equality and freedom no one on Earth would believe that.
“Do you remember the day you returned to Alpha Star, telling me in the car about a life without war?”
“Of course!”
“I mentioned that to Her Highness,” Hena said with longing in her voice. “Everyone, especially those who have experienced war, hopes for a peaceful life, even if it means exchanging the great power they hold. Furthermore, pursuing equality and freedom doesn’t mean Her Highness must become an ordinary person. Your Earth countries also have leaders, don’t they?”
Feng Qingyu nodded.
“Since you can understand that, then my visit today wasn’t in vain. I hope you seriously consider our conversation. I won’t bother you any longer. I still need to go to the training ground.”
After sending Hena off, Feng Qingyu thought for a long time before realizing that a very important point had been skillfully diverted by Hena: the reason Margie never physically punished her subordinates was because they had already placed themselves in a very low position from the start. Fundamentally, there was still a distinction between superior and inferior.
To change the mindset of these aliens, the task was indeed heavy and the journey long!
