The Savior Says She's Having a Breakdown - Chapter 33
Chapter 33: The Hidden Truth (Part 2)
Feng Qingyu, who had been idle for three days due to her lack of interest in the analysis process, was nestled in her chaise lounge, reading a novel and celebrating that the crazy person had finally become normal, leaving her in peace, when her communicator suddenly rang.
The message was from Maggie seeing this, Feng Qingyu’s heart sank: speak of the devil and she shall appear.
Three o’clock, conference room.
Although it was just five short words, it made Feng Qingyu breathe a sigh of relief. She thought about pretending not to see it, but then reconsidered. She remembered a saying: “the shorter the message, the bigger the deal.” Perhaps something important was happening.
Checking the time, it was already two-thirty. Feng Qingyu still jumped out of the chair, walked to the closet barefoot on the carpet, sighed, and opened the closet.
“Reporting, Your Highness, esteemed adults, the analysis results are out.”
As soon as Feng Qingyu entered the conference room, she saw a blonde woman in a green lab coat reporting something to the others.
“Wait a moment.” Seeing her enter, Margie spoke to the blonde woman, then pointed to the seat next to her, telling Feng Qingyu, “Sit.”
Feng Qingyu reluctantly walked over, but stopped next to Hena.
Hena looked up and saw Feng Qingyu pointing to the seat next to Margie, signaling her to move.
However, Hena acted as if she didn’t understand, shook her head, and smiled faintly at her: “You’re not late, don’t worry. Hurry up and sit down. The analysis from the other day is back.”
Seeing everyone looking over, Feng Qingyu glared at Hena, then resignedly walked to the chair next to Margie and sat down.
Only after Feng Qingyu was seated did Margie say, “Speak.”
“The soil brought back by Miss Feng Qingyu has a composition consistent with most of the soil in the capital, except—”
…Can’t they just speak normally? Why create such a tense atmosphere? Although she complained internally, Feng Qingyu was still nervous about what she would hear next. Fortunately.
“We detected two types of toxic substances in it. After comparison, one has been confirmed: it is ‘One Drop Exterminator,’ which was on Alpha Star’s list of banned drugs announced five years ago.”
“Pff—” Feng Qingyu couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Seeing everyone turn their heads to look at her, she quickly explained, “I’m not sure what your original drug name is, but the translated name sounds like a ridiculous prank insecticide on our Earth.”
No one cared about the translation issue right now. Hearing the reason, Mina asked the blonde woman, “Did you test the energy?”
The reporting person nodded: “Yes, we tested it. Like the water sources we tested before, it contains the same energy as the Spirit Spring, but it is equally weak.”
“What is the effect of this banned drug?” Hena was not as familiar with these as Mina.
Mina had to explain: “This agent was originally developed to destroy confidential documents, equipment, and pharmaceuticals. Its effect is to decompose all matter into irrecoverable atomic forms.”
“The ultimate form of destroying a corpse and eliminating all traces?” Feng Qingyu was very surprised by this answer. “So, the spring water was decomposed by this agent? But why wasn’t the soil near the spring source decomposed?”
Mina flipped through the report and said, “The person who administered the poison probably calculated the dosage, and the original plan was only to decompose the stored spring water. However, their calculation was also a mistake. Three years later, we can still detect toxic substances in the soil.”
“What about the other one?” Maggie asked.
“After multiple comparisons, we haven’t reached a conclusion yet. However, we boldly speculate that this substance is a toxin from another planet, targeting energy.”
Feng Qingyu was now full of curiosity: “Can energy, which is invisible and intangible, be targeted?”
Mina nodded: “Theoretically, yes, but Alpha Star’s technology cannot develop such an item.”
The blonde woman chimed in: “Since the effect of ‘One Drop Exterminator’ is only decomposition, and as far as we know, the water from the Kuro Spring of Life has always been inexhaustible for nearly a thousand years, this drug alone cannot cause the spring to dry up. The real reason should be this unknown substance.”
“Your Highness, this matter can basically be concluded as being man-made,” Hena said seriously.
Just as Maggie was about to say something, Feng Qingyu suddenly said, “That’s not right. A substance targeting energy should make the energy in the spring water disappear or mutate. It shouldn’t cause the spring water itself to dry up, should it?”
“Targeting energy is just a guess based on the premise that ‘the Spirit Spring relies on its own energy to flow continuously for nearly a thousand years.’ Specifically, we need to find relevant data on this substance and analyze it before we can draw a definitive conclusion.” After handing all the inspection reports to Mina, the reporting person added, “Your Highness and esteemed adults, please review them at your leisure. I will take my leave now.”
Maggie nodded.
Only after the conference room was left with just a few people did Hena say, “Your Highness, do you think His Majesty’s prohibition against investigating the Spirit Spring is related to the contents of these two reports?”
Maggie remained silent for a long time on this question. Just when Hena started to think she had asked an inappropriate question, Margie finally spoke: “Mother should know.”
Remembering what Yuna had said before, Feng Qingyu asked, “Then why did she ask you to find a solution outside instead of telling you the truth? And why did she stop you from searching for the truth?”
Seeing Maggie silent and looking dejected, Hena stood up to mediate: “Let’s conclude here for today. We’ll go back and look for information on this extraterrestrial substance.”
Feng Qingyu saw Maggie suddenly sink into depression and immediately erupted. She stood up abruptly and angrily said, “No! This matter can’t end today without being clarified!”
“Miss—” Mina also stood up and came over to persuade her, “Her Highness is upset. Let’s just—”
“Shut up! Don’t call me! So what if she’s upset? What about me?”
The three, hearing “Shut up” from Feng Qingyu for the first time, realized the seriousness of the situation and swallowed the words they were about to say.
“I just want to ask her, why? Don’t you know that it’s because your mother concealed the truth and made you go out to find a solution that I’ve had to go through so many strange things in my life! I am the biggest victim in this whole thing! I have the right and must know the truth! Otherwise, let’s just call it quits and wait for death!” Feng Qingyu slammed her hand on the table in anger. The hard table made her hand instantly feel like it was splitting, but she could only endure it now.
Just when Feng Qingyu thought there would be no more to say, Maggie spoke: “She is doing it for Debbie.”
Feng Qingyu thought she was making excuses and said with heavy sarcasm, “Debbie is dead, isn’t she?”
“Perhaps not,” Maggie sighed, looking up at Feng Qingyu. “Do you want to hear it?”
Her eyes seemed to hold many things. This Maggie felt very unfamiliar to Feng Qingyu, as if the person sitting across from her was someone else, she didn’t know who, but definitely not the cold-faced, cold-hearted Margie.
Hena looked at Feng Qingyu and then at Maggie, saying, “I will take my leave.”
“No need, stay here together,” Maggie waved her hand. “When Debbie went traveling, she was kidnapped by secretly entered bandits. The bandits demanded nearly half the national treasury’s gold and the Star Kingdom’s most advanced weapons from Mother. Mother refused. Later, the bandits sent a message saying they had executed Debbie.”
“You know the whole story? Didn’t you say before you didn’t know?” The more Feng Qingyu listened, the more she felt that the person in front of her was not only cold-faced and cold-hearted but also a habitual liar.
Unexpectedly, Maggie pursed her pale lips and said, “It’s all conjecture. When I was young and naive, I overheard Mother talking to her butler. Back then, she demanded the bandits show her a photo of Debbie’s body, but they refused. So I guess Debbie might not be dead.”
“Why?” Feng Qingyu raised an eyebrow.
“Other than Debbie, I can’t think of anyone else Mother would disregard the future of the Star Kingdom for.”
Feng Qingyu realized the logical flaw in this, narrowed her eyes, and said, “This—doesn’t quite add up, does it? If she could abandon Debbie for gold and weapons back then, she would definitely not abandon the Star Kingdom for Debbie today. Especially since she now has you and Barbara as two heirs! So, you are lying again!”
“I am not.” Unable to find a better explanation, Margie could only utter these three weak words.
“Hmph, I’d be a fool to believe you!” After saying this, Feng Qingyu turned and walked towards the door, not looking back.
