The Savior Says She's Having a Breakdown - Chapter 36
Chapter 36: Snake Eyes (Part 1)
Still immersed in her maternal glow, Feng Qingyu felt a pang of heartache for the dark circles under Maggie’s eyes and decided to schedule the meeting for the following day.
However, that night, an unexpected guest arrived in her room.
Walking barefoot on the carpet to the door, Feng Qingyu cracked it open and peered out: “It’s you?”
The person outside nodded: “Let’s talk inside.”
Feng Qingyu rested one hand on the door and the other on the frame, looking up slightly at her: “No, say whatever you have to say right here. I’m about to go to sleep.”
Fiana pushed the door open and walked in, seating herself unceremoniously on the sofa, and spoke coldly: “I hope you will stay away from Her Highness. You will only bring her pain! As long as you agree to leave her, I won’t tell His Majesty that you have been deceiving everyone!”
Hearing this, Feng Qingyu paused for a moment before bursting into laughter.
There were countless films and TV shows on Earth with this plot, where the person saying these words could be the male lead’s parents, the female lead’s parents, or the protagonists’ love rivals. But this was the first time she had ever heard a subordinate say it.
If she didn’t know that the concept of “love” didn’t exist on Planet Alpha, she would have suspected Fiana was secretly in love with Maggie.
“What are you laughing at?” Fiana was highly displeased with her laughter.
“No, nothing, I just suddenly thought you were a little foolishly adorable.” Feng Qingyu shook her head. “Did your Highness know that you were coming to talk to me about this?”
Fiana shook her head, her tone firm: “Her Highness will endure for the sake of the Star Kingdom, choosing to suffer in silence rather than object to your presence…”
“Hold on, I think you might not have understood the problem.” Feng Qingyu looked at her with her arms crossed. “Why were you put in solitary confinement last time? Has so little time passed that you’ve already forgotten? Do I need to help you recall?”
Fiana’s face changed.
Feng Qingyu pressed her advantage: “Do you know why Maggie released you many days ago but still hasn’t let Yuna give the security detail captain’s position back to you? Because I won’t allow it.”
Seeing Fiana open her mouth to say something, Feng Qingyu didn’t give her a chance, her tone aggressive: “I thought you had learned what obedience meant when you behaved so well a few days ago. I never thought you’d learned to act one way in public and another way in private!”
Fiana’s face flushed with anger. She stood up, gritted her teeth, and was about to make a move: “If you refuse to stay away from Her Highness, don’t blame me for violating the contract and laying a hand on you!”
Seeing Fiana approach, Feng Qingyu quickly stood up, took a few big steps toward the door, raised her wrist, pointed at the communicator, and gave her a slight smile: “That’s what I was waiting for you to say. Three, two, one, they’re here.”
The moment her voice fell, there was a knock on the door.
The door was pulled open.
“Good evening, Miss.”
Feng Qingyu walked over to Hena, pointed at the person in the room, and shrugged: “Thank goodness you arrived in time, or I might not have seen tomorrow’s sunrise.”
Waving her hand to signal the Royal Guard behind her to enter the room and forcibly remove Fiana, Hena nodded to her: “I apologize for the trouble. I will report this to Her Highness and ensure you receive a satisfactory response. It’s late; please get some rest.”
“Good night, see you tomorrow.”
Lying in bed, Feng Qingyu felt a little emotional after narrowly escaping danger: Thank goodness she had seen Fiana’s aggressive demeanor and quickly sent a message to Hena while closing the door. And Hena hadn’t disappointed her, arriving swiftly. This counted as catching Fiana red-handed, and she certainly wouldn’t be seeing Fiana again for a while. She felt a bit foolish for pitying her when she was in confinement before…
Speaking of Fiana, she was originally an operative planted by Idith at Maggie’s side, yet her loyalty to Maggie was rare. Unfortunately, her method of showing loyalty was wrong from the start, and due to Idith’s relationship with Fiana, Maggie clearly didn’t care about Fiana’s loyalty at all.
“Truly, smart people have different schemes, but fools are all alike.” Turning to switch off the warm, penetrating lamp, Feng Qingyu ended this complicated day with a sigh.
The next day, Feng Qingyu woke up as usual from her dream. Sleepily, she sat up, ready to get out of bed and wash up, but as she was sitting on the edge of the bed putting on her shoes, she finally realized something was wrong.
In the dining room, Maggie, having waited in vain for Feng Qingyu, waved her hand at Hana. Hana quickly walked over: “What are your orders, Your Highness?”
“She didn’t come again?”
Though the sentence was disjointed, Hena understood: “Perhaps Your Highness should make a call and express concern?”
“Is that appropriate?”
Hena nodded: “Of course. Since Your Highness said yesterday that you hoped Miss Feng Qingyu would give you a chance to make amends, and she agreed, Your Highness should simply proceed.”
Maggie thought about it and decided it made sense, so she dialed Feng Qingyu’s number.
The line took a predictably slow time to connect.
“Good morning.” Maggie thought of Hena’s wording from that day.
However, only a series of gasps came from the communicator, faintly mixed with the sound of something falling to the floor.
Maggie tried tentatively: “Feng Qingyu?”
“…Maggie?” Finally, there was a reply, though her tone sounded strange.
“It’s me,” Maggie said. “Are you feeling unwell?”
“Help me! Save me!” Her breathing became even more rapid. “My eyes, I can’t see!”
Maggie subconsciously initiated a video call, but the other side took a long time to connect.
Hana, standing nearby, faintly heard the conversation. At this point, she ignored the fact that she was eavesdropping and quickly said: “It’s urgent, let’s go check on her first.”
Maggie immediately stood up and walked toward the door: “Mina, come with me.”
“Your Highness, I have something I’ve concealed from you.”
Maggie was striding rapidly toward the guest room. Hearing Hana’s words, she frowned: “Is it urgent?”
“Fiana visited Miss Feng Qingyu last night. I suspect the Miss’s situation today might be related to her.”
“Last night? Why didn’t you report it to me?”
Hena’s voice clearly wavered: “I planned to report it during today’s meeting.”
Fearing that Maggie’s sudden anger would waste time, Mina interjected: “The incident has already occurred, Your Highness. Please check on the Miss’s condition first before addressing the matter with Fiana.”
Maggie said no more, only quickening her steps.
When Feng Qingyu first realized she couldn’t see, she thought it was just temporary cerebral anemia from getting up too fast. But when she slowly propped herself up and walked a few steps, she knew she truly couldn’t see.
“How is that possible? I must be dreaming again.” Comforting herself, Feng Qingyu continued to walk forward a few steps, but she bumped into something, lost her balance, and fell onto the carpet.
Just as she was trying to stand up again, the communicator rang.
Fumbling to answer it, Feng Qingyu heard the voice on the other end and grabbed onto it like a lifeline: “Save me!”
Excitedly, she tried to stand up by grabbing something, but only knocked an object to the floor again.
When Maggie, Hena, and Mina pushed the door open, they saw Feng Qingyu with her head lowered, slumped on the carpet, her waist-length black hair scattered around her, and not far from her body, flower petals and vase fragments lay strewn across the floor.
Mina, seeing the situation, rushed forward to help her up, but Feng Qingyu violently waved her arm to push her away.
They heard her alertly ask: “Who is it?”
“It’s me, Mina.”
“Mina?” Hearing a familiar voice, Feng Qingyu quickly lifted her head and reached out to grope for her: “Mina, Mina! Help me, aren’t you a doctor? Help me…”
It was then that the three women saw Feng Qingyu’s face covered in tears, and her eyes.
Hena quickly blocked the maids who had entered to clean up the fragments: “You two get out!”
The maids wisely lowered their heads, retreated, and closed the door behind them.
Mina helped Feng Qingyu sit on the sofa: “Miss, your eyes?”
Feng Qingyu’s voice was hoarse: “I can’t see, I can’t see… Mina, you can fix this, right! You must have a way!”
She hadn’t been this anxious even when she learned she was kidnapped by aliens because she knew that as long as she was alive and whole, she would find a way out. But now it was different; she couldn’t see, she was blind, she had become a burden…
Mina patted her hand, soothing her softly: “Please don’t worry, there will be a way.”
Feng Qingyu tightly gripped her hand and nodded.
Hena and Maggie exchanged a look, and then Hena asked: “Miss, did Fiana do something to you last night?”
Feng Qingyu choked on a sob and shook her head: “It wasn’t her. I was fine before I fell asleep. I woke up and…”
“Did you look in the mirror before falling asleep last night?”
Although she didn’t know why Hena asked this, Feng Qingyu replied: “Yes, I did. Why?”
“At that time, did you notice anything unusual about your eyes?”
Feng Qingyu shook her head. Inferring some information from Hana’s words, she asked anxiously: “Is something wrong with my eyes now?”
“Your eyes now—”
Seeing Hena hesitate, Mina took over: “They… have turned a light brown and are vertical slits.”
“Why? How could this happen?”
Seeing Feng Qingyu start to panic again, Mina tightened her grip on her hand, her voice becoming even gentler: “Don’t panic, don’t panic.”
Maggie had seen her calm, sharp, hostile, and hysterical, but she had never seen her like this at this moment, Feng Qingyu was like a withered flower. Though still retaining color, she had lost all vitality.
Such a desperate expression shouldn’t be on Feng Qingyu’s face.
Thinking this, she heard herself say: “Don’t worry, I will definitely restore you to normal.”
