The Savior Says She's Having a Breakdown - Chapter 8
Chapter 8: Return to Earth (Part 2)
It was probably the “three-chapter agreement” Feng Qingyu had mentioned earlier that reminded Maggie of Hena’s numerous instructions before their departure. Although she was internally unhappy, she obediently led Yuna into the guest room.
In the study, Feng Qingyu and Mrs. Feng sat opposite each other.
Mrs. Feng looked at Feng Qingyu with a complicated expression, then slowly began, “Your birth mother her name was Feng Lan. She was a classmate of your father and me in college, and she was my roommate.”
Seeing no reaction from Feng Qingyu, Mrs. Feng continued, “She was very beautiful, the recognized goddess of our department, but she rarely socialized with classmates and only nodded to her roommates. But perhaps because I took care of her for a few days when she was sick, she gradually warmed up to me. When your father and I got married after graduation, she was even my bridesmaid.”
What is this eight-o’clock soap opera plot development? Feng Qingyu really wanted to laugh and complain to her mother, “The story you’re making up is too cliché,” yet she couldn’t help but recall their wedding photo that she had looked through as a child.
Feng Qingyu thought hard. The bridesmaid in the photo was indeed a very beautiful young woman—was that person her birth mother? No wonder she had always felt a unique connection whenever she looked at that photo since childhood.
“But not long after, she suddenly cut off contact with us. No matter how hard your father and I tried to find her, we couldn’t reach her. Until one day, two years after she disappeared, she reappeared holding a baby,” Mrs. Feng recalled the past, her expression tinged with regret. “Yes, that child was you. She said she originally didn’t plan to reappear, but she didn’t expect to have you. She knew her time was limited, so she wanted to find a good environment for you to grow up in. You couldn’t stay there.”
“Where is there?” Seeing Mrs. Feng frown when mentioning “there,” Feng Qingyu couldn’t help but ask.
“The Nüwa Tribe, where your mother came from. The time she was missing, she was captured and taken back by her tribe members.”
“Captured?” Feng Qingyu was now inexplicably sensitive to this word.
Mrs. Feng sighed and said, “In the Nüwa Tribe, only women can inherit the goddess Nüwa’s divine power, and the men, who are just ordinary people, force them to protect the Nüwa Tribe. Because the inheritance of the divine power is incomplete, and based on the amount of power inherited, the women in the tribe usually only live for twenty to thirty years. The men in the tribe require them to marry within the tribe and bear children early. When the girls reach ten years old, they awaken their divine power and inherit their mother’s work, and before they die, they must conceive the next generation with the men of the tribe… and your mother said she was destined not to live past twenty-five.”
Feng Qingyu could not believe that such a place still existed in the twenty-first century. She said indignantly, “If all this is true, why don’t they resist? Didn’t you say those men are just ordinary people? If the women all possess divine power, how can they be forced by ordinary people?”
“The divine power women can inherit is all for protection, blessing, and purification. Moreover, the Nüwa clan has always been isolated from the world. The women live for a maximum of thirty years, and throughout their lives, they never leave the tribe’s living area. They simply don’t realize they are being oppressed.” At this point, Mrs. Feng couldn’t help but sigh again, “Your mother, on the other hand, was completely abandoned by the tribe because she reached the age but did not awaken her divine power. This was a blessing in disguise, allowing her to leave and experience the outside world. But unexpectedly, your mother’s divine power awakened after she graduated from college.”
Feng Qingyu listened with a heavy heart, no longer bothering to question the veracity of the story—or rather, she had already believed it, ever since she recalled the photo that felt so familiar.
“There is a person in the Nüwa Tribe who can sense the divine power of others, and she is revered as the High Priestess. The Priestess can sense the location of all Nüwa bloodlines—whether the person has divine power or not, and no matter where they go. So, as soon as your mother’s divine power awakened, people from the tribe immediately came and dragged this person, whom they had once deemed worthless and abandoned, back.” Mrs. Feng looked at Feng Qingyu at this point, and seeing her surprised face, she smiled helplessly. “When we first heard all this, we also thought she was delusional, until we saw her snake tail. It sounds very unreal, right? Your father and I both thought we were dreaming at the time, but even if we didn’t want to admit it, the facts wouldn’t change. Your mother ultimately passed away a week before her twenty-fifth birthday. She went peacefully in her sleep, without pain or illness.”
Looking at Mrs. Feng, who couldn’t help but shed tears while recounting the past, Feng Qingyu felt a lump in her throat, heavy and stifled. She didn’t know what to say or what she could say. She could only pull out a tissue and hand it over, choked up, “Don’t be sad, Mom.”
Mrs. Feng took the tissue and wiped her tears, saying, “Aran once said that she sought out a talisman—the one you always wear around your neck, the one your father and I never let you take off—which can conceal your bloodline and suppress the awakening of your divine power, so that you can avoid the Nüwa Tribe and avoid that cursed fate. But we didn’t know how long this talisman would work. Since you turned ten, we’ve always worried, but fortunately, your divine power never awakened. Your father and I thought, since your divine power hasn’t awakened, we should tell you your origins after you graduated from college and started working—your ability to accept it might be stronger then. But we never expected that these aliens would learn your identity and kidnap you. When you went missing, we thought someone from there had taken you away—the police couldn’t help. We told them about the Nüwa Tribe, but we couldn’t give them a location.”
“Mom, I’m sorry for making you worry.”
“Oh, who would have thought? But it’s good that you’re back,” Mrs. Feng pulled Feng Qingyu’s hand and said tenderly, “Tell Mom how you spent this past half-month. I was too shocked in the living room just now and didn’t get to properly talk to you about what happened during this time.”
Feng Qingyu then generally recounted her experiences to Mrs. Feng. To avoid worrying her mother, she omitted the part where she was threatened, only mentioning the part where Hena easily tricked her into agreeing to cooperate.
“So they need the divine power of a Nüwa descendant to help them create people?”
Feng Qingyu nodded, worried, “Mom, if my divine power awakens, will I only have a few years left to live…”
“Don’t worry, Mom won’t let them take you away again.” Mrs. Feng grasped her hand and promised, “Aran risked her life to bring you out of there and found a way to suppress your divine power, all because she wanted you to live a normal life. Mom won’t let your divine power awaken, and I certainly won’t let those aliens take you away.”
Although Feng Qingyu didn’t know what methods Mrs. Feng, an ordinary person, could use to negotiate with a group of interstellar bandits, at this moment, she completely believed in her.
Just as Mrs. Feng and Feng Qingyu came out of the study, the security door opened again—Feng Yi had returned.
“Brother.” Since Feng Yi had been working abroad, Feng Qingyu hadn’t seen him for nearly a year. Seeing him again now, her mood was not as light and joyful as in previous meetings. “I’m sorry for causing you trouble.”
Feng Yi affectionately stroked the top of her head and reassured her, “What are you talking about? You’re my sister.”
“Brother, I know everything now.” Having learned so much difficult information all at once, Feng Qingyu felt a bit disheartened.
Feng Yi was startled for a moment, then quickly recovered and smiled, “Silly girl, no matter what, I will always be your brother, and Mom and Dad will always be your Mom and Dad. This place will always be your home.”
It was as if something in her heart finally settled. Feng Qingyu’s tears finally couldn’t be held back and fell.
