The Scumbag Alpha and the Movie Queen Omega's Arranged Marriage - Chapter 10
Sheng Lan wouldn’t ask for trouble.
She had to accompany Lu Xueyin to visit her mom today, so Sheng Lan got up after chatting with Liang Jiao for a bit.
When she finished getting ready and went out, Jiang Ling had already left for work, and Lu Xueyin was waiting for her in the living room.
They had a tacit understanding: they wouldn’t talk about what happened at night during the day.
It was as if there had been no midnight encounter, no boundary crossed, and no childish squabbling.
Breakfast was already on the dining table. The moment Sheng Lan looked, Lu Xueyin said it was made by Jiang Ling.
She was so quick to distance herself that Sheng Lan was suspicious.
She also found it strange. “Is Sister Ling not worried about you being alone with me?”
Lu Xueyin’s eyes could speak and rendered Sheng Lan speechless without a word.
Sheng Lan was the only one left to eat. She quickly finished her meal and took Lu Xueyin downstairs.
After getting in the car, she asked for the address, started the navigation, and drove her there.
Since she was asking for a favor today, Lu Xueyin’s attitude was pretty good.
She showed care and concern, saying that driving was hard work and she could do it for her.
Sheng Lan: “It’s still not too late to say you made breakfast.”
Lu Xueyin: “I made it.”
Sheng Lan almost choked.
She couldn’t tell that behind her icy cold face, she was quite adaptable.
Lu Xueyin’s mom, Wei Wan, lived in a private sanatorium. Besides the medical level, the environment and security were top-notch—at least better than Lu Xueyin’s residence. Not just anyone could get in.
When they arrived at the inpatient department, Sheng Lan reached out to Lu Xueyin.
Lu Xueyin wanted to link her arm with hers, but she didn’t accept it.
After a few seconds of a staring contest, Sheng Lan grabbed her hand and tickled her palm a few times.
Lu Xueyin: “…”
The strange pride of an Alpha.
If she can’t mark me, she’ll just take advantage of me in another way.
She told Sheng Lan to behave. “Otherwise, you’ll be the one who feels uncomfortable.”
Sheng Lan had experienced Lu Xueyin’s flirtatious methods.
If she had to rate them, the technique would only get a two out of ten.
Her looks and pheromones, however, made the atmosphere a perfect score.
Sheng Lan was very interested in the word “uncomfortable” and tickled her palm twice more.
Lu Xueyin was a slender beauty, but her palm was surprisingly soft and boneless.
Instead of scratching, Sheng Lan’s movements were more like pinching. She wanted to feel the bones in Lu Xueyin’s palm.
Seeing that Lu Xueyin’s face was starting to get cold, Sheng Lan stopped in time.
She became even more obedient before they reached the hospital room.
Before pushing open the door, Lu Xueyin told her again not to say anything strange. “You can even be a cold, mute person.”
She and Sheng Lan had few interactions before their marriage. Wei Wan had only seen Sheng Lan when she was a child.
Now, she was catching up on Sheng Lan’s variety shows and performances. She had bought all of Sheng Lan’s albums since her debut and was even watching her interviews, looking like a new, dedicated fan.
She had even praised Sheng Lan to Lu Xueyin a few times, mainly saying that she had a good character.
It was as if repeating good words would make this sudden arranged marriage a good one.
So when the door opened.
Sheng Lan heard a familiar melody, the lead single from her new album, Provocative.
Wei Wan was enthusiastically praising Sheng Lan to the caregiver.
With this double shock, Sheng Lan really did purse her lips and automatically adopted a celebrity demeanor, becoming a cold, mute person.
Lu Xueyin said “Mom,” and so did she.
Lu Xueyin poured tea, and she peeled an apple.
Having not visited for a few days, and with a reality show to film in two days, Lu Xueyin spent a long time chatting with Wei Wan today.
She wanted to have a mother-daughter chat, but Wei Wan didn’t want to neglect Sheng Lan, thinking it would be bad for the wives’ relationship.
Lu Xueyin forced a label on Sheng Lan. “It’s fine. She’s not a talker and is a bit clumsy with words. She’ll just listen to us.”
Sheng Lan immediately agreed. “Yes, I’m not a talker and am a bit clumsy with words. I’ll just listen to you.”
Since she spoke, Wei Wan, regardless of whether she was clumsy with words or not, directly steered the conversation towards her and asked, “What do you think of Xueyin?”
This question was too complicated for Sheng Lan.
She saw that Lu Xueyin was subconsciously looking at her with a wary and guarded expression, and she let out a small laugh.
“She’s very prickly.”
To Lu Xueyin, this was not a good comment.
But Wei Wan’s smile suddenly relaxed. She wasn’t as relaxed as she was now after chatting with Lu Xueyin for half a day.
So, Lu Xueyin understood. Her keeping Sheng Lan from talking, in her mom’s eyes, meant that the wives’ relationship was not harmonious after the marriage and that Sheng Lan was only here under duress.
So she also steered the conversation toward Sheng Lan.
Wei Wan told Lu Xueyin to go to the doctor. “You’ve had some more tests done these past two days. Go and see the results.”
She wanted to send Lu Xueyin away.
Sheng Lan smiled at her. Her eyes were clear and not dirty.
After a moment of hesitation, Lu Xueyin thought about the past two days of interacting with her, and Sheng Lan’s actions of actively reporting the crime and cooperating with the investigation, and she nodded in agreement.
She would just repay her when they got home.
For example, by not holding a grudge against Sheng Lan’s rudeness on the way here.
Of course, if Sheng Lan said anything bad in front of her mom, she would find a way to deal with her.
Because of that little bit of distrust, when Lu Xueyin left, she held the doorknob. It seemed like she had closed the door, but she didn’t let go, so it wasn’t locked. She could hear a little bit of the conversation in the room.
Wei Wan’s mental state couldn’t be compared to a normal person’s. She was still undergoing chemotherapy and would get weak after talking to people for too long.
Normally, when Lu Xueyin said she was coming to see her, she wouldn’t talk to the caregiver. She would save her energy to wait for her daughter.
Those praises for Sheng Lan, even if she would say them normally, had a lot of an act to them today.
Through the door, Lu Xueyin couldn’t hear what she was saying.
She only heard Sheng Lan say, “She’s very cute. She even made me breakfast this morning. The fried egg was in the shape of a heart.”
There was no fried egg for breakfast at all.
Lu Xueyin quietly let go of the doorknob. The lock made a very soft “click.”
Sheng Lan glanced over. The door was quiet. Outside the frosted glass with vertical stripes, only a nurse walked by.
She said to Wei Wan, “She has a very interesting personality, like a cat.”
She was wary and probing. She could be provocative, cool, and arrogant, but she was also very cute.
Lu Xueyin tried to get back as soon as possible. When she opened the door, the atmosphere between Sheng Lan and her mom was very good.
This raised her impression of Sheng Lan quite a bit.
After lunch, they went home.
Lu Xueyin hadn’t found a suitable place to move to yet. Sheng Lan was about to leave for a reality show, so she could stay there for a while longer.
After leaving the sanatorium, Sheng Lan took her to pack her things.
Sheng Lan’s pinkish-brown curly hair was too recognizable. Even with a hat and a mask, her figure and presence were very noticeable.
She wasn’t comfortable letting Lu Xueyin go alone, so she said they would go together.
“We just got a trending topic, the touching sisterly bond.”
Lu Xueyin: “There’s no sisterly bond between an Omega and an Alpha.”
Sheng Lan said there was. “We are.”
Fine, whatever.
Lu Xueyin got out of the car first.
Sheng Lan followed her.
They had had the property manager handle things, so it was a smooth trip back to the residence today.
Lu Xueyin only saw this place as somewhere to sleep. It was still in the style of a commercial apartment, and there were very few signs of life.
The closet, however, was full.
Lu Xueyin had watched a few episodes of the reality show. Besides indoor interactions, there would also be outdoor games to strengthen their relationship.
Some would be in the countryside, and some would be biking. It wasn’t convenient to wear a dress for these, so when she packed her clothes, she didn’t bring any of her sexy dresses that fit her style. They were all casual.
Just before they left, she remembered something and went back to the room to get two sets of long-sleeved pajamas and packed them in her suitcase.
Sheng Lan raised an eyebrow.
Her competitive side flared up again. “Don’t worry. A midnight encounter like the one we had won’t happen for a long time. I’m leaving for my gig.”
Lu Xueyin didn’t admit that she was changing her pajamas to guard against Sheng Lan. She replied calmly, “I’m leaving, too.”
Since their relationship had gotten better and they had come home early, Sheng Lan was in the mood to coax the pampered young woman.
In the car, she asked Lu Xueyin to go grocery shopping with her. “The supermarket inside the community is very safe, and the ingredients are fresh. Let’s make dinner ourselves tonight.”
Lu Xueyin was stunned for a moment. “You can cook?”
Sheng Lan’s kitchen utensils were complete. She had all kinds of seasonings, grains, and noodles. The refrigerator also had fresh meat, eggs, and vegetables. There was only a cleaning lady who came to clean the house, so it made sense that she could cook.
Lu Xueyin really wanted to ask why she could cook but ordered takeout for all three meals a day.
She was about to speak but saw Sheng Lan’s open and honest gaze and didn’t ask.
Their relationship wasn’t at that level yet. Why would she cook for her?
Their relationship was just starting to get better, and Lu Xueyin was still recovering from her illness, so she couldn’t eat many things.
Sheng Lan said they could buy a pork rib or a pigeon or chicken and go home to make soup to nourish her.
Lu Xueyin had to control her weight and didn’t eat greasy food.
Sheng Lan’s gaze fell on her tiny waist. She rubbed her own stomach. “It’s fine. We have oil-absorbing paper at home, and I even have straws ready.”
Then it’s fine.
Maybe the two of them just had an incompatible energy from birth.
There shouldn’t be such a thing as “good feelings” between a female lead and a female cannon fodder.
Sheng Lan had finished stir-frying the pork ribs and was putting them in the ceramic pot to simmer when both of their phones rang at almost the same time.
It was a call from the police station.
They were calling with the results of the investigation into the “poisonous room.”
Feng Zhitong had been taken in for questioning and had now been released.
The person who had confessed was a housekeeper.
He said he was an anti-fan of Lu Xueyin’s. After arriving at the suburban villa, he heard Feng Zhitong on the phone and heard that Lu Xueyin was going to live there, so he sprayed a large amount of pheromone booster in the house.
When asked if he knew the consequences.
He said that it wasn’t too much to do anything to a gold-digger like Lu Xueyin, a dirty woman who exchanged herself for resources.
This extreme attitude rebounded even after the police stopped him twice.
He even insulted the public officials, saying that Lu Xueyin must have had some shady deals with them as well.
If he was just a regular anti-fan, the motive wouldn’t hold up.
But as an extreme anti-fan, the motive was very strong.
But Sheng Lan was a person who had received the plot from the original book. She knew it was Feng Zhitong.
Lu Xueyin was threatened by Feng Zhitong in person, and her phone was even taken away to cut off her escape. She also knew that Feng Zhitong couldn’t be innocent.
Sheng Lan’s mood was very down.
She turned to look at Lu Xueyin.
Her vision was framed by the kitchen door, and she could see Lu Xueyin leaning on the sofa.
She was still wearing the same long dress she wore when they left. It was an off-the-shoulder style with puff sleeves and a cinched waist, which was cute and dignified while also being sexy.
Now, as she leaned there, besides being tired, there was only an invisible layer of ice that had formed again, wrapping her in a distant protective layer.
Noticing Sheng Lan’s gaze, she didn’t avoid it and looked straight back at her.
All the probing and flirting, the provocation and amusement of the past two days were all gone.
It was as if they had gone back to the day they first met.
Sheng Lan hadn’t participated in this matter, but she felt like a bad kid who had been caught. Her heart was suddenly squeezed.
She didn’t avoid her gaze either and asked Lu Xueyin, “Do you want yam pork rib soup or winter melon pork rib soup?”
Lu Xueyin’s response was to get up and go back to her room.
The fruit platter on the coffee table was only half-finished.
