Chapter 13: Cream Horn – Justice Avenger Five-Minute Experience Card, Beep…
“Do I really have to be disguised like this?” Inside the restroom, Ming Xi stood in front of the mirror, adjusting her thick, black-rimmed glasses.
The girl’s reflection in the mirror showed her long hair tucked into a white beret, a blue lanyard hanging on her chest. At first glance, she was indistinguishable from the crew staff.
The girl behind her rolled her eyes: “What else? Do you think the crew members are vegetarians?”
With that, she adjusted the SLR camera in her hand, not forgetting to instruct: “Don’t run off later. See Xia Jinzhao and then leave quickly.”
“Got it.” Ming Xi pulled an A4 paper from her pocket. On the wrinkled room arrangement sheet, the person’s location was circled with a conspicuous red pen.
That’s right, through the “enthusiastic” taxi driver, she was smoothly arranged to be a temporary member of the crew. Although the profession of the person next to her wasn’t respectable, at least professional paparazzi had ways to avoid security and surveillance.
Ming Xi, oh, Ming Xi, after being an upstanding citizen for so many years, you’re actually consorting with these people. What a decline in morality!
She repeatedly condemned this behavior in her heart, rubbed her cheeks, and adjusted her expression.
“If it weren’t for my uncle paying me, I wouldn’t bother with you…” The girl flipped her ponytail, muttering as she left the restroom.
Just stepping around the corner of the corridor, a man with fawning eyes blocked their way, his narrow, triangular eyes flashing with ill-intentioned shrewdness.
“Sister Jing, he said he could get a scoop tonight. Is that true or false?”
Hearing this, the woman called Sister Jing sneered: “Nonsense. The person specifically paid us to come. Isn’t it for hype? Just follow the plan, alright? Hey, which room is he in?”
“I’ve found out everything. 614. Let’s hurry.”
The triangular-eyed man proudly raised his phone, the screen showing his chat history with the buyer. After whispering to each other, the two headed towards the elevator.
The rooms arranged for the actors by the crew were based on their status. The two leads naturally stayed on the top floor, which offered an open view and a quiet environment.
As for veterans like Shi Dezao, even without impressive works or awards, their accommodations wouldn’t be too bad out of respect for their past contributions.
The full-length mirror reflected the neon street scene outside the window. The man sat on the sofa, a cluster of crimson flames falling. He put out the cigarette in the ashtray, stood up, and draped on a long coat.
Leaving Room 614, Shi Dezao took out his room card and rode the elevator up to the twelfth floor.
The feeling of weightlessness came from under his feet. He used the elevator wall to tidy his attire, then walked to the end of the corridor, raised his hand to knock on the door, his peripheral vision catching the Monstera deliciosa nearby.
The large, lush green leaves gently swayed, allowing a faint glimpse of a reflecting lens. Sister Jing and the triangular-eyed man crouched nearby, their eyes glued to the door.
“He actually dared to target Xia Jinzhao. Is he crazy?” The woman kept her voice low, looking like she was about to throw in the towel and leave.
Sensing the dissatisfaction in her tone, the triangular-eyed man quickly pressed her shoulder: “We’re paid to do this. The fire won’t burn us. What are you scared of?”
Sure enough, Sister Jing hesitated for a moment and didn’t move again.
A few days ago, Shi Dezao’s agent approached them, proposing a deal. The work was simple: just take misaligned photos at the designated time and location.
The entertainment industry updates quickly, and if one is not careful, they will be forgotten by the audience. It was not uncommon for people to use popular celebrities to gain traffic and stage a comeback. At the time, they didn’t think much of it, and since the conditions offered were generous enough, they accepted.
They never expected that the target would be the Xia family.
To meddle in this muddy water, money alone wasn’t enough. Many rich people could spend a fortune and still get nothing; connections were the most important thing.
Unlike having to bribe people back and forth, the Xia family’s business was slightly involved in the entertainment industry, making them the recipients of favors. If they were discovered by the other side, being disgraced would be a minor consequence; a serious case could land them in prison for three to five years.
Fortune favors the bold. This Shi Dezao had some serious guts.
On the other side, the door creaked open, and a woman stood in the gap. Having just returned from filming, her makeup wasn’t completely removed, her clear skin fair like warm jade under the light.
A subtle floral scent wafted from the bedroom, mingling with the corridor’s incense, adding an eerie layer to their silence.
Seeing the visitor, a look of surprise flashed across Xia Jinzhao’s eyes. She said coolly yet politely, “Senior, is something the matter?”
While it wasn’t the middle of the night, overly close private contact was inappropriate, so she maintained a proper distance.
Shi Dezao did the same. His appearance was kind and honest, making it easy for people to let down their guard.
“Sorry to bother you so late, Xiao Xia,” the man held a script. “It’s like this: I have other work the day after tomorrow, and I discussed with the director to film my scenes early. I wanted to run lines with you.”
This excuse was clearly unconvincing. Xia Jinzhao did not rashly open the door.
Seeing the other party unmoved, Shi Dezao awkwardly laughed twice: “Never mind. You should get some rest.”
With that, he intended to leave. The long silence felt like a standoff, the surging tide urging someone to speak.
After an unknown amount of time, the person behind the door spoke softly.
“Senior, please come in.”
Precisely anticipating her action, Shi Dezao hesitated, still wanting to decline.
“Xiao Xia, I thought about it, and it really isn’t appropriate…”
After all, Xia Jinzhao had a strong background; trying to do anything to her was a pipe dream. But releasing some smoke and letting the media write nonsense would be enough to stir up some buzz.
As long as they could capture photos of the two at the room door, seemingly “intimate,” it could also boost the movie’s discussion and earn another wave of popularity.
The man was thinking of his own gains.
Xia Jinzhao leaned against the door, her eyes deep and dark, extinguishing all light. She curved her lips, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes.
“It’s not just for you. I also have a poster shoot in a few days. Too many NGs will delay the progress.”
The director of Illusory Sea was notoriously a perfectionist; there was generally no such thing as a one-take pass under their direction. If the actors polished the scene privately, it could save more time.
“Then let’s just stay at the door. If anything unexpected happens, Ye Lin can come out and help,” Shi Dezao said humorously.
Meanwhile, Sister Jing, leaning against the flowerpot, rubbed her sore calves and looked up at the triangular-eyed man.
“Once you get the shot, pack up quickly. If someone sees us, we won’t be able to keep these photos.”
The triangular-eyed man impatiently clicked his tongue: “Ugh, we’re too far away. We can’t even get a misaligned shot.”
“Hurry up! The two of them are about to go inside…”
Before she finished speaking, a gust of wind blew past her, lifting the corner of her clothes draped over her knees. Before Sister Jing could make out the identity of the newcomer, the familiar figure had already charged toward the slightly ajar room door.
Ming Xi had just exited the elevator and saw Shi Dezao and Xia Jinzhao talking happily (?). Seeing the posture of the two as if they were about to enter the room, it was practically leading a wolf into the house!
Thinking of the female lead’s pitiful state when she was captured by the original owner in the previous life, she transferred her hatred and immediately flared up in anger. Without thinking, she slapped the door panel, crashing straight into the room.
Bang!
The loud noise instantly caught the attention of the two people inside. Xia Jinzhao was stunned the moment she saw Ming Xi.
Before she could react, the former looked around the room, then rushed up to grab her shoulders and carefully inspect her.
“What did he do to you?”
“Why are you here?” Xia Jinzhao briefly lost control of her emotions, asking in a low voice.
Ming Xi completely ignored her. Seeing the woman’s unremoved eye makeup, the crimson spread from the corner of her eye towards her temple. She thought the other person was being bullied and swallowing her pain, thus concocting a whole drama in her mind.
Beast!
Shielding the person behind her, Ming Xi glared angrily at Shi Dezao.
CCTV 12 Society and Law Action! (A Chinese TV show about law and order)
The sudden turn of events left the man completely bewildered, even his tongue was tied.
“Miss Xia, this, this is your friend?”
“Cut the nonsense. What did you intend to do by bringing Xia Jinzhao back to your room!” The girl went up and grabbed the man’s collar.
The Alpha’s innate strength was indeed impressive. Grabbing a male Beta was as easy as lifting a small chicken. The man flapped his hands, casting a pleading look at the woman who was standing outside the fray.
“No, this is Miss Xia’s room…”
“What do you have to explain!” The girl tightened her grip, and the man immediately struggled to breathe, a choking gasp escaping his throat.
“I haven’t explained yet—”
“If you still try to argue, I also know a thing or two about martial arts!” As soon as the words fell, the girl bent her knee and directly thrust it towards the man’s abdomen.
“Don’t hit! Don’t hit my face!”
A pig-slaughtering scream echoed throughout half the corridor.
Seeing that she had even started using violence, the woman behind her felt a vein throbbing in her forehead from anger. She finally couldn’t hold back and said with a dark expression, “Stop it!”
Cut—
The downfall of the Justice Avenger.
Ming Xi paused as if the “pause” button had been pressed. When she turned her head, she didn’t forget to cast a confused look at Xia Jinzhao.
The two people who had been crouching at the door were shocked. Sister Jing held her almost dislocated jaw with her palm and slapped the back of the triangular-eyed man’s head.
“What are you waiting for? Start shooting!”
