The Scumbag Alpha Movie Queen Pampers Her Wife - Chapter 18
Gu Muchu, clutching the medicine box, subtly hid it behind her back.
Realizing her own reaction, Ji Yuran’s tongue twisted into knots, making her words stumble. She hastily explained, “No ulterior motive, just… just asking.”
The Omega stood awkwardly, her knee pressed against the doorframe, knuckles white from gripping too tightly.
Sensing her embarrassment, Gu Muchu chuckled softly, her bright almond eyes curving into crescent moons. She shook the medicine box, the capsules rattling like pebbles stirring through thick pond scum on a summer night, momentarily clearing a sliver of clear water. The awkward tension in the air dissolved.
“It’s nothing serious, just a minor cold.”
Her entire body felt as if it had been run over by a car, her very marrow scorched by feverish bl00d. The strange flush on her pale cheeks made it impossible to dismiss as a mere cold.
Ji Yuran seemed to believe her, staring intently at the medicine box as if trying to bore a hole through it. After a tense moment, her rigid posture relaxed slightly, and she turned to enter the master bedroom.
With Ji Yuran gone, Gu Muchu’s anxiety eased. She walked to the water dispenser, expertly operating the panel to heat water for herself. The rumbling of the machine drowned out the sound of footsteps behind her. When she turned around, Ji Yuran was standing there, holding a thermometer.
The Omega’s grave expression, as if facing a mortal enemy, was inexplicably amusing.
“What’s this? Planning to murder me?” Even in this situation, Gu Muchu still found the humor to joke. She set down her water glass and turned to face Ji Yuran, studying her with amusement.
Ji Yuran was momentarily speechless, her neck stiff with embarrassment and annoyance. Refusing to argue with a patient, she simply said, “Come here.”
Gu Muchu pretended to just notice the thermometer, glancing at it with a knowing smile. She leaned closer, sunlight skimming past her thick lashes to cast shadows beneath her eyes, like a docile wolf baring its vulnerable neck. Slowly, she pressed her temple against the thermometer’s tip, adopting an expression of resigned acceptance.
Ji Yuran’s hand flinched back as if burned, the coldness against Gu Muchu’s temple fading. “Gu Muchu, stop messing around!” she snapped, her tone exasperated.
Gu Muchu straightened up and sighed deeply. “I can take care of myself. I won’t be a burden.”
The same words inexplicably reminded them both of the previous night’s events. Ji Yuran pouted, the fine hairs on her head drooping with her mood. “You’re just being stubborn. Why the double standard?”
She disliked this superficial imbalance and felt compelled to compensate Gu Muchu in some other way to ease her conscience. In other words, Ji Yuran hated owing people favors.
Gu Muchu stared at the thermometer, her eyes swirling with unreadable emotions. Finally, she relented and leaned her forehead closer.
With a beep, the thermometer’s display flickered to 39 degrees Celsius. Ji Yuran’s brow furrowed even deeper as she flipped the device around and waved it in front of Gu Muchu. “You have a fever.”
Faced with the undeniable truth, Gu Muchu fell silent, unable to argue.
The Omega beside her, far from being excited by her suspicions, kept her gaze fixed on either the thermometer’s display or Gu Muchu’s flushed face, muttering to herself.
Gu Muchu leaned forward, the warm light filtering through the wooden lattice of the glass door and falling on the floor where their feet stood. Tiny dust motes danced in the air, carrying the faint, sweet fragrance emanating from Ji Yuran.
Gu Muchu softened her breathing, afraid of disturbing the person beside her.
Having resolved her internal conflict, Ji Yuran moved behind Gu Muchu and gently pushed her into the guest room. “Go get some rest.”
The pressure on her shoulder was light, like a tickle. Gu Muchu tilted her head slightly, her peripheral vision catching half of the Omega’s head. A mischievous grin spread across her face. “Don’t tickle me, it’s so itchy.”
Despite feeling lightheaded and unsteady, her voice remained light and clear. To Ji Yuran, this only reinforced the impression that Gu Muchu was being irresponsible about her health, stubbornly trying to act tough.
She clenched her fist, wanting to strike Gu Muchu, but in the end, she only gave her a light, indignant tap on the shoulder, the force as gentle as a feather’s brush.
Gu Muchu reluctantly allowed herself to be led back to the bedroom, where Ji Yuran insisted she lie down. The younger woman pulled the thin blanket up to Gu Muchu’s neck, leaving only her head exposed. Gu Muchu watched as Ji Yuran mixed hot water, adjusting it to a barely tolerable temperature, before rushing to the living room to gather a pile of medicine boxes and place them on the table.
“Trying to poison me?” Gu Muchu quipped, a strange warmth rising in her chest as she watched Ji Yuran fuss over her.
In the past, she had always been the pillar of support for others, her gentle and accommodating nature allowing her to be the caregiver. This was the first time she had ever been the one receiving such devoted attention.
Taking advantage of her illness, Gu Muchu grew unusually chatty. She wasn’t one for jokes, but around Ji Yuran, she couldn’t resist teasing her.
Besides, Ji Yuran hated her. The idea of her taking advantage of Gu Muchu’s illness to finish her off… wasn’t entirely far-fetched.
Ji Yuran was currently poring over the medicine instructions, the dense text filled with warnings and precautions. She bit her lower lip, as if facing an unsolvable riddle of the century. Hearing Gu Muchu’s remark, she glanced up with a distracted glare.
Due to the varying constitutions of AOs, medication dosages differ widely. The quiet room was filled with the rustling of paper and the rhythmic rise and fall of their breathing.
“Gu Muchu,” Ji Yuran finally sighed in frustration after studying the instructions for a long time.
“Hmm?” Gu Muchu, who had been staring blankly at the ceiling, unconsciously raised her voice in a questioning tone as she turned her gaze toward Ji Yuran.
Clutching the instruction manual, Ji Yuran spoke in a voice as faint as a mosquito’s buzz, “Last time, your doctor friend… could you ask her to come take a look?”
Her breath came in short gasps, and an unspoken understanding passed between them, both recalling the previous incident.
Back then, the Original Self had attempted to force herself on Ji Yuran, only for Gu Muchu to transmigrate and defuse the crisis. To reassure Ji Yuran, Gu Muchu had called Shen Yiyan to conduct a full-body examination.
Realizing this, Gu Muchu nodded in agreement. “I can.”
“Then I’ll make breakfast for you.” Ji Yuran, feeling guilty for not being able to help, was eager to contribute in other ways. She stood up to leave the guest room, her retreating figure carrying a hint of panicked escape.
Gu Muchu’s eyes widened, her grip tightening on the bedsheets. She suddenly called out, “Ji Yuran.”
Ji Yuran froze mid-stride, her hand still on the door. She didn’t turn around, but tilted her head slightly, her beautiful face betraying none of her emotions.
“I’m sorry,” Gu Muchu said. Though it wasn’t her fault, the memory of that day still haunted her.
Ji Yuran was willing to let bygones be bygones, not because the incident hadn’t happened, but because she was resilient and kind enough to forgive. She could even accept Gu Muchu’s care when she was ill.
Gu Muchu’s heart felt like a tender seedling, swaying with every move Ji Yuran made.
After a long silence, Ji Yuran finally spoke.
“It’s okay. I stopped caring a long time ago.”
She had noticed Gu Muchu’s transformation since that day. In the quiet of night, the terrifying scene replayed vividly in her mind, followed by Gu Muchu’s gentle treatment, leaving her tormented and trapped in a quagmire of conflicting emotions.
I think I might have already forgiven her, Ji Yuran thought. This realization filled her with self-loathing. This invisible dependence on her perpetrator felt like Stockholm syndrome.
The Alpha treated me so terribly. Why should a few small acts of kindness earn my forgiveness?
Ji Yuran felt like she was standing on a tranquil, mist-shrouded sea, dimly seeing the distant, brightly lit lighthouse, yet unable to reach her destination no matter how hard she tried.
Despite her confusion, she had long since mentally separated the person before her from the Alpha she once knew.
The current Gu Muchu was good.
Having received Ji Yuran’s answer, Gu Muchu withdrew her gaze, pressed the back of her hand to her forehead, and, feeling the burning heat, revealed a weary expression. She reached for her phone on the bedside table, opened WeChat, and sent a message to Shen Yiyan.
First Light of Dusk: I have a fever. Could you come over?
Dorothy: Since you’re asking, it’s no trouble at all. Don’t be so polite.
The reply was casual, just like Shen Yiyan herself. Though their friendship wasn’t deep, Shen Yiyan had a good temperament and had even tolerated the imperious Original Self.
Soon after, the doorbell rang. The sound of the door opening was followed by muffled greetings.
When Shen Yiyan entered, she immediately spotted Gu Muchu lying ill in bed. The woman carried her usual tote bag and locked the door as she closed it.
The crisp click of the lock echoed in the room. Gu Muchu’s heart sank slightly, her attention finally focusing entirely on Shen Yiyan.
Shen Yiyan, dressed in a black vintage pleated dress with spaghetti straps, exuded a cool, sophisticated aura that made it hard to believe she was a doctor. She placed her bag on the bedside table and casually pulled up a wooden chair to sit by the bed.
“I thought you were faking it, but you really do have a fever,” Shen Yiyan said, pulling several boxes of Alpha-specific medication from her bag and tossing them onto the bed.
In the ABO World, Alphas were rare after adulthood, and their robust constitution meant there was little demand for specialized medication. Conversely, Omegas, with their weaker constitutions, were the primary target market for pharmacies, and their medications were exorbitantly priced.
Gu Muchu couldn’t muster a smile, sensing Shen Yiyan had come prepared. She propped herself up to sit, clumsily fumbling with the packaging. Shen Yiyan, unable to watch any longer, snatched the boxes, tore them open with practiced ease, and poured the capsules into her palm. “You Alphas are such a hassle,” she grumbled. “Even during your Heat, you need special medication. Unlike…”
Her words trailed off as she noticed the glass of water and the scattered medicine boxes on the bedside table.
A teasing smile spread across her face as she glanced knowingly toward the kitchen.
Gu Muchu understood the unspoken question and didn’t press further. The two fell into silence as she drank the lukewarm water, swallowing the bitter pills.
The sharp taste of the medicine quickly spread through her mouth, causing her to frown. She glanced over to see Shen Yiyan leaning back in her chair with her arms crossed.
“Alright, tell me,” Shen Yiyan said, her voice casual, “what exactly happened this time to make you fall ill?”
Recalling yesterday’s torrential rain, Gu Muchu offered a vague explanation: “I got a little wet bringing Yuran back.”
She deliberately avoided revealing any specific details.
Hearing Gu Muchu refer to Ji Yuran by her first name, Shen Yiyan couldn’t resist scrutinizing the Alpha on the bed. Confirming that Gu Muchu was conscious, she added, “Yuran? What new game are you playing now?”
“Stop it,” Gu Muchu snapped, disliking her tone.
“Your attitude is strange,” Shen Yiyan persisted, her gaze fixed on Gu Muchu’s face, scrutinizing every detail. “Have you actually developed feelings for her?”
In their elite social circles, keeping an Omega was commonplace, but admitting to caring for one was taboo, especially for someone like Gu Muchu. It was almost unbelievable.
Gu Muchu chose not to answer.
Sensing her evasiveness, Shen Yiyan rephrased her question: “So, what exactly is Ji Yuran to you?”
Like a sudden alarm, Gu Muchu’s hand jerked, spilling water that darkened a spot on the thin blanket. Her eyes glazed over as she sank into deep thought.
