The Scumbag Alpha Movie Queen Pampers Her Wife - Chapter 46
When Gu Muchu woke up, the day was already bright. A thin ray of sunlight streamed through the gap in the curtains, casting a narrow line across the duvet.
Her temples throbbed, and a dull ache lingered at the back of her head. She sat up and noticed her coat had been removed and draped over the chair, and she was wearing her usual pajamas.
Ji Yuran.
The thought made her rub her tangled hair as she walked to the bathroom to wash up. When she emerged, the sweet, sticky aroma of cooked rice filled the air.
“Ji Yuran?” she called out tentatively, her throat dry and scratchy, as if scraped raw. Even swallowing was painful.
A clatter echoed as a knife struck the countertop. Ji Yuran whirled around, startled, and saw Gu Muchu watching her through the sliding glass door.
“You’re awake,” Ji Yuran said, her gaze darting away as if guilty about something she’d done the night before. She glanced at Gu Muchu briefly before returning to her task.
“Did I cause you any trouble last night?” Gu Muchu asked, her mind filled with fragmented memories. She walked over to the electric rice cooker and peered inside, unable to resist a compliment.
“It smells delicious,” Gu Muchu remarked.
Ji Yuran couldn’t accept the compliment and began chopping vegetables faster, as if venting her frustration.
Amused, Gu Muchu saw the mushrooms were about to be minced to bits and reached out to take over. “Let me handle this.”
The sun had just risen, and it was nearly lunchtime. Sunlight streamed in, bathing the Omega’s fine hair in a soft golden glow. With her sleeves rolled up to her elbows, she looked utterly adorable.
Just as their fingers were about to touch, Ji Yuran deftly dodged her hand, her expression serious. “No, you’ve just woken up from a hangover. You should rest.”
Her stubborn yet endearing demeanor made Gu Muchu’s hand freeze mid-air. She chuckled softly.
It’s actually quite nice to be taken care of occasionally.
The living room’s heating was almost scalding. As Gu Muchu sat on the sofa and unlocked her phone, dozens of messages flooded in instantly.
After a quick glance, Gu Muchu saw that apart from the usual notifications, all the messages were from Shen Yiyan and Lu Panwei.
Gu Yiqiong, the most composed of the three, hadn’t sent even a single greeting.
A faint scoff escaped Gu Muchu’s lips as she deleted her chat history with Gu Yiqiong, preferring not to dwell on it.
She then opened Shen Yiyan’s chat window first.
Dorothy: ?
Dorothy: Please reply when you see this. Thank you, so people don’t worry for nothing.
Gu Muchu’s thumb hovered over the keyboard as she pondered how to respond. In her memory, Shen Yiyan hadn’t been particularly close to the Original Self; rather, she felt her own relationship with Shen Yiyan was stronger.
My phone was off, I didn’t see it.
Is there something you need?
Almost immediately after sending the message, a reply arrived.
Dorothy: Let’s discuss the details in person. Are you free now?
Gu Muchu stared at the line on her screen, then glanced toward the kitchen.
First Light of Dusk: Not really free right now.
After finishing lunch, Gu Muchu told Ji Yuran she was leaving and headed to the bar Shen Yiyan had mentioned.
In the early afternoon, the bar was nearly empty, with soft, melodious tunes playing in the background. Gu Muchu scanned the room and walked straight to a semi-private booth by the window.
Shen Yiyan seemed to have arrived just moments before, touching up her makeup with a compact mirror. Noticing Gu Muchu, she leisurely packed up her things, half-joking, “You and your Little Omega are living the good life, completely oblivious to the near-chaos last night.”
“Gu Yiqiong specifically mentioned you and Shen Xu in her speech, hinting at a joint appearance. When she learned you had already left, she was furious, her face turning green with rage.”
Gu Muchu asked the approaching waiter for a glass of water, adjusted the sunglasses perched on the bridge of her nose, and said coolly, “You know she’s delusional. Why are you reveling in her misfortune?”
“Just tell me why you called me here.”
Finding the conversation tedious, Shen Yiyan leaned back against the sofa. “Do you know why Gu Yiqiong is so desperate to marry you and Shen Xu?”
Gu Muchu, who had been uninterested, finally looked up.
In the original novel, she only knew that the Shen Corporation and Gu Corporation had a good relationship. But since she didn’t want the marriage, Gu Yiqiong could have easily chosen another partner. There was no need to risk a potential fallout by insisting on binding herself to the Shen Corporation.
Gu Corporation was a major enterprise, slightly surpassing Shen Corporation in scale. Yet, in the current situation, it seemed as though Gu Corporation was being led by the nose by the other party.
If she could uncover the reason behind this predicament, she might be able to dissolve the marriage alliance more easily.
Seeing Gu Muchu deep in thought, Shen Yiyan leaned closer and whispered, “At the last family gathering, I overheard Shen Xu drunkenly blurt out the truth.”
“Gu Corporation had acquired a new shipment of goods originally intended for carving at their factory. But during transport, a mistake occurred, and the shipment was delivered to another factory instead.”
“Now that factory is holding the goods hostage and denying any responsibility. With the transaction records in the hands of the logistics company, how could Gu Yiqiong not be anxious?”
Shen Yiyan scoffed softly, her tone ambiguous—whether mocking or sighing—as she continued.
“Shen Corporation, being in the logistics business, somehow obtained the records and presented them directly to Gu Corporation. Though they didn’t explicitly demand anything, it wouldn’t be right to accept such a favor for free.”
Gu Muchu nodded in agreement. For someone as meticulous as Gu Yiqiong, this was entirely plausible.
To seize market share ahead of competitors, she would absolutely sacrifice her daughter’s lifelong happiness to repay a debt of gratitude. That was precisely the kind of person Gu Yiqiong was.
“So, Muchu, all you need to do is get your hands on the transaction records, seize the opportunity, and, to put it bluntly, reclaim the goods. The choice is yours.”
Shen Yiyan offered her suggestion.
After weighing the pros and cons, Gu Muchu looked up. “Why are you helping me?”
“Helping you?” Shen Yiyan seemed puzzled by the word. She drained the cocktail in her sweating glass. “I just can’t stand that brat Shen Xu’s arrogance. It has nothing to do with you.”
This answer brought a wave of relief to Gu Muchu.
As long as it wasn’t because of… Ji Yuran.
Realizing the absurdity of her thoughts, she shook her head inwardly. Ever since confirming her feelings for the other woman, she had become increasingly anxious and insecure.
Seeing that the conversation was winding down, Shen Yiyan stood up, grabbed her familiar tote bag, and waved goodbye to Gu Muchu.
“That’s about it. If there’s any progress, just send a message. You don’t need to run errands yourself; have your assistant deliver documents or anything else. I’m fine with that too.” Shen Yiyan, uncharacteristically enthusiastic, rattled off a string of instructions before gracefully departing in her high heels.
The air hung thick with the lingering scent of nicotine and alcohol—the Beta’s lingering presence.
Gu Muchu, her head throbbing, grabbed her car keys and prepared to leave. Just then, a waiter approached politely.
“Madam, would you like to settle your bill at the front desk?”
Gu Muchu: ……
Ji Yuran had cleaned the room meticulously. She held her tablet, meticulously taking notes.
She still needed to refine her portrayal of the character in her new drama and had to catch up during her break.
A muffled doorbell rang. She paused, a slow smile spreading across her lips.
Gu Muchu had indeed returned early, just as she’d said.
Slipping into her fuzzy slippers, she padded toward the door.
The moment she opened it, a sharp, severe face met her gaze.
The joy in her heart was washed away like rain, leaving only a heavy sense of pressure.
Gu Yiqiong stood at the threshold, her gaze sweeping past Yuran’s shoulder to land on a painting hanging on the wall before stepping inside.
Never could Yuran have imagined her visitor would be Gu Yiqiong. Flustered, she fumbled for slippers in the shoe cabinet, but the Alpha saw through her intentions, her condescending gaze betraying contempt.
In the quiet air, Yuran thought she heard a faint sneer.
The door closed firmly behind them. Yuran brought over a glass of lemon water from the dining area. The Alpha crossed her arms, surveying the lived-in room without acknowledging Yuran’s efforts.
Gu Yiqiong hadn’t come to stage a scene of maternal affection. Finding Gu Muchu absent, she frowned and demanded, “Where’s Gu Muchu? Tell her to come out.”
Ji Yuran sat awkwardly on the single-seater sofa beside her, replying softly, “She’s out meeting a friend.”
“Which friend?” Gu Yiqiong’s voice dripped with displeasure, her gaze as sharp as a hawk’s. Under her piercing stare, Ji Yuran had no choice but to answer.
“Shen Yiyan.”
The Alpha’s brow relaxed slightly at the name. “Someone from the Shen Corporation?”
Seeming relieved that her daughter wasn’t associating with disreputable company, she picked up her water glass, took a small sip, and asked with an air of authority, “You must be aware of Muchu’s engagement to someone from the Shen Corporation, correct?” She crossed her hands on her lap and fixed Ji Yuran with a scrutinizing look.
Though framed as a question, her tone carried an unmistakable undercurrent of coercion. The two had spoken at length the previous night, leaving many things unsaid but understood.
Yet Ji Yuran never imagined Gu Yiqiong would come in person. Moreover, how had she discovered Gu Muchu’s home address?
As Ji Yuran sank into thought, a steady voice cut through the silence.
“I thought Miss Ji was a sensible person. I overestimated you,” Gu Yiqiong clicked her tongue in displeasure. “I made myself clear yesterday. You don’t want to be the other woman, do you?”
Recalling their previous conversation, Ji Yuran had remained silent throughout. Gu Yiqiong had initially believed her to be docile, but now realized she was as stubborn as a mule.
What use is a pretty face? Gu Yiqiong knew Gu Muchu’s temperament all too well—this was just a passing fancy, nothing serious.
“There are countless young, beautiful women like you in the entertainment industry. What makes you think you’re so special?”
“With your narrow-mindedness, you’ll never be worthy of Muchu…”
“Even the Shen Corporation’s heir, though mediocre, is a more suitable match.”
The word “match” struck Ji Yuran like a blow to the heart. She clenched her fist slightly.
This reaction pleased Gu Yiqiong. She pulled a contract from her bag and slid it across the table to Ji Yuran.
“Smart people know what to do,” Gu Yiqiong said, about to uncap her pen when the Omega’s lips moved.
“What?” Gu Yiqiong didn’t hear her.
“Why am I the one being accused of interfering?”
“Gu Muchu hasn’t even agreed to marry Shen Xu yet. By arranging this without her consent, aren’t you interfering in her affairs?”
“You…” Gu Yiqiong was stunned by Ji Yuran’s defiance, her expression shifting from surprise to anger.
Realizing she had lost her composure, Gu Yiqiong’s face hardened, her warm demeanor vanishing completely.
“After Gu Muchu and Shen Xu get engaged, if you’re not the one interfering, are you claiming to be her legal wife?”
The Alpha’s words cut through Ji Yuran’s heart like knives. Standing beside Gu Muchu, she already felt sensitive and inferior, and today’s situation only amplified her vulnerability.
Yet even so, she refused to show weakness to the woman before her.
“Yes…”
“Yes, we are legally married.”
Before she could think, Ji Yuran blurted out, “Muchu and I have already registered our marriage.”
“We are the legal lovers.”
