The Scumbag Alpha Movie Queen Pampers Her Wife - Chapter 49
“What? What kind of favor are you talking about? I don’t understand,” Gu Yang said, his words quickening as he rushed to defend himself.
Gu Muchu was sharp; a moment’s thought allowed her to grasp the situation.
It was clear the Shen Family had set a trap for Gu Yiqiong. But they couldn’t have anticipated that the Alpha, so proud and aloof, would fall into their scheme without realizing it.
Perhaps Gu Yiqiong had guessed their intentions, but even in her anger and humiliation, she had weighed the pros and cons and chosen to swallow her pride.
The two parties might have even negotiated terms, which could explain Gu Yiqiong’s recent erratic behavior.
Shen Yiyan scoffed, dropping her pretense and cutting straight to the point. “Spare me the act. No matter what Shen Xu promised, you’ll be dead before you can enjoy it.”
Gu Muchu shot her a disapproving glance. Though it was hardly the time for such reminders, she couldn’t help but warn, “We live in a society governed by law. Watch yourself.”
How had she never noticed before? Gu Muchu wondered. When Shen Yiyan gets tough, she actually has the potential to be quite… domineering.
Shen Yiyan clicked her tongue, glaring at Gu Muchu before turning her attention back to Gu Yang. “Think carefully before you speak. Don’t be an idiot.”
Faced with their combined pressure, Gu Yang took a deep breath, stood up, and said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I have other things to do. I’m leaving now.”
The initial suspicion, which had been only thirty to forty percent, now felt almost certain.
As the man lifted his foot to leave, Gu Muchu snapped, “Stop right there.”
“President Gu, to be honest, I’ve already resigned. What happens at my former company is no longer my concern…” Gu Yang’s explanation was cut short.
“I said, stop right there.”
The Alpha’s imposing aura left the man struggling to maintain his composure. He eventually sank back into his seat, burying his face in his hands, his voice thick with despair and resignation.
“No matter how much you ask, I have nothing more to say.”
Shen Yiyan exchanged a glance with Gu Muchu before turning to face him.
“I remember you have a daughter in high school, right?”
The man’s face twisted violently at these words. He jerked his head up. “What are you implying?”
“Nothing at all,” Shen Yiyan shrugged nonchalantly.
Gu Muchu’s mischievousness was usually reserved for specific people, like teasing Ji Yuran. But the Beta’s brazenness left them speechless. His outward appearance gave no hint of such audacity.
The atmosphere in the room grew tense. Gu Muchu loosened her tie, her gaze drifting to the painting on the wall, lost in thought.
In the silent private room, a long sigh finally broke the stillness.
“Shen Xu paid me to do it,” Gu Yang said, bowing low, his figure hunched and weathered.
Shen Yiyan raised an eyebrow, her expression one of confirmation.
“You have nothing to say?” she suddenly asked Gu Muchu, who had remained silent throughout. Gu Muchu averted her gaze and slowly shook her head.
She had suspected as much.
But what was the point of digging for answers only to find herself still at a disadvantage? Gu Yiqiong wouldn’t abandon her plan to bind the Gu and Shen families together.
“You can leave now,” Shen Yiyan said, lifting her chin with a magnanimous air. The rest of the conversation wasn’t for a third party.
Released from her grasp, Gu Yang fled the private room as if granted a pardon, not even touching the water glass on the table.
The cold air rushed in, then abruptly turned warm. Gu Muchu closed her eyes and leaned back against the chair.
She had hoped to resolve this matter and clear Ji Yuran’s name. But the situation now felt like a tangled mess, impossible to unravel.
Something was missing.
Sensing her thoughts, Shen Yiyan pulled out her phone and swiped across the screen. “I just recorded his confession. Should I call Shen Xu over now?”
“That’s… direct,” Gu Muchu remarked, glancing at the three-minute audio file—Gu Yang’s confession.
She hadn’t expected this Beta to be so straightforward, a stark contrast to her own cautious, roundabout approach.
“It’s not as complicated as you make it out to be,” Shen Yiyan said, blinking. “Since the shipment is gone, finding it should solve everything. I know you care about your little Omega more than anything.”
“You…” Gu Muchu started to speak, then stopped, unwilling to dignify her nonsense with a response. Her silence seemed to imply agreement.
Shen Yiyan leaned back in her chair, gazing out the window.
A fine drizzle drifted from the gray sky, cold droplets tracing streaks down the glass. Distant green mountains were shrouded in smoky mist, their forms indistinct and elusive.
“You didn’t used to think this way,” Gu Muchu remarked thoughtfully.
The Shen Yiyan she knew had always adhered to the principle of social standing, no different from Gu Yiqiong, though she never expressed it so openly. Now, helping Gu Muchu seemed more like defying the Shen Family and indulging a desire to watch the drama unfold.
“Times change!” Shen Yiyan said, resting her hands on the back of her chair and gazing wistfully at the sky, adopting an air of premature wisdom.
Before getting to know Shen Yiyan better, Gu Muchu had always seen her as a serious person, her demeanor calm and composed. It was rare to witness this playful, impulsive side of her.
After they finished eating, the rain outside showed no signs of stopping, growing heavier instead. It pounded against the windows like a hailstorm, the sound like beans spilling from a sack.
Shen Yiyan lit a cigarette, the slender holder nestled between her fingers, releasing a lingering scent.
“How are you getting back?” she asked, glancing up.
Gu Muchu’s gaze lingered on the glowing ember for a moment before she wiped her mouth. “I asked my assistant to bring an umbrella. It should be here soon.”
Shen Yiyan chuckled, the smoke curling and dissipating. “You’re having her bring you an umbrella?”
“I gave her extra time off this month to avoid any complaints,” Gu Muchu replied, deflecting the implied criticism.
Not long after, Lan Jing arrived, clearly having run all the way, her chest heaving.
Shen Yiyan turned to meet her gaze and extinguished her cigarette.
“Boss, your umbrella,” Lan Jing said, blinking in surprise as she approached Gu Muchu and handed her the umbrella.
Gu Muchu accepted the umbrella, oblivious to the unease in her assistant’s eyes.
“How did you get here?” she asked, placing the still-sealed umbrella on the nearby chair. “Are you going straight home?”
Lan Jing smoothed her hair and grinned sheepishly. “I can just take a taxi!”
“Where do you live?” Shen Yiyan suddenly interjected, breaking her silence as she sipped her water.
Lan Jing turned to look at the Beta.
Shen Yiyan possessed a cool and aloof demeanor that made her difficult to approach. Yet her eyes held a captivating allure, and if she were an Alpha, she would undoubtedly be the object of widespread adoration.
“The residential district near Nanhua Street,” Lan Jing replied vaguely, unwilling to reveal her exact address.
“Then I’ll give you a ride. It’s on my way,” Shen Yiyan said casually, turning to Gu Muchu to explain, “Just making your boss owe me one.”
Lan Jing was about to protest when she met Gu Muchu’s concerned gaze and reluctantly agreed.
“Alright.”
The meal ended abruptly. Shen Yiyan shook out her coat and, as she reached for the door, suddenly turned back to warn Gu Muchu.
“Oh, and you should find time to meet with Shen Xu soon. He’s unpredictable and might do something crazy. To protect your little Omega, it’s best to keep your distance for a while.”
The well-intentioned warning weighed heavily on Gu Muchu’s heart. Her brow furrowed deeply. “I can protect her.”
Shen Yiyan paused, her hand hovering over her sunglasses, and wagged a finger. “Don’t underestimate him.”
With that, the woman strode out of the private room on her slender heels, leaving behind a faint scent of tobacco. Gu Muchu covered her eyes and sighed deeply.
Indeed, she wasn’t confident about dealing with someone she barely knew.
Moreover, Gu Yiqiong, who was conspiring with her, was no pushover either.
As she calmed her nerves, her phone buzzed, the vibration numbing her elbow where it rested against the table corner.
She swiped to unlock it and saw a message from Ji Yuran.
Lion:Â [Image]
Lion:Â Must you be so childish?
The image showed a partially opened mirror, from which a palm-sized note had been pulled out, stained with dark watermarks.
When Ji Yuran opened the mirror to retrieve her toiletries, she discovered a brand-new piece of paper tucked inside. Out of curiosity, she took it out and immediately recognized Gu Muchu’s handwriting.
How she could identify it from just a few simple characters remained a mystery, but she instinctively sent Muchu the message.
The unspoken message:Â I want to talk to you.
Even in her own mind, Ji Yuran preferred to express herself indirectly, twisting her words into subtle hints rather than simply saying, “I miss you.”
Just as she was hesitating whether to throw the note away or put it back, a voice call invitation popped up on her screen, startling her so badly she nearly dropped her phone into the sink.
“Hello?” Ji Yuran answered, her voice trembling slightly, betraying her cautious nervousness.
Fine, continuous rain dripped from the umbrella’s edge onto Gu Muchu’s face as she stepped down the stairs. The moment she heard Ji Yuran’s voice through the receiver, her brow relaxed.
“Coming to scold me?” Gu Muchu’s voice sounded slightly nasal, as if she were catching a cold.
“What are you talking about…” Ji Yuran mumbled. “Are you sick? You don’t sound well.”
Gu Muchu walked into the underground parking garage, closed her umbrella, shook off the water, and wedged the phone between her shoulder and neck. “So perceptive? You can tell just from my voice?”
Ji Yuran’s breathing was steady on the other end. Realizing the other woman was genuinely worried about her, Gu Muchu felt a warmth spread through her heart. “Don’t worry, my assistant brought me an umbrella.”
The mention of Lan Jing inexplicably reminded her of Shen Yiyan’s warning in the private room earlier.
To protect Ji Yuran, it’s best to keep your distance.
Gu Muchu refused to admit her own inadequacy. She remained convinced she could protect Ji Yuran, but ignoring such sincere advice left her with a lingering sense of guilt.
To Gu Muchu, Ji Yuran was like a cherished treasure she couldn’t bear to let go of. She would carefully wipe away the dust, then hold her close and pat her gently.
Everything will be alright, she thought.
The Omega on the other end, noticing her prolonged silence, gathered the towel in her palm. “Gu Muchu, is something wrong?”
Only then did Gu Muchu realize the bathroom was thick with Alpha pheromones—the heady scent of Wild Rose intertwined with thorny brambles, intensely invasive.
I’ve really thrown a tantrum, she thought.
Coupled with the crew members searching for her earlier and Ji Yuran locking Gu Muchu in the bathroom, Ji Yuran couldn’t help but blush.
Even when she brought the towel close, she could still detect Gu Muchu’s unique scent—the dense, soft sweetness of Black Cherry.
Though subtle, this gesture completely captivated the naive young Omega.
Originally, Ji Yuran had hoped to deepen their connection during the call, but sensing Gu Muchu’s distracted mood, she abandoned the idea.
A dull ache filled her heart, like a premonition. Something felt like it was slowly tearing apart inside her.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that she was somehow responsible.
On the other end, Gu Muchu leaned against the steering wheel, staring at the darkened screen reflecting her own face.
After a long pause, she forced a smile and whispered reassuringly, “Elder Sister is fine. Don’t worry.”
