The Scumbag Alpha Movie Queen Pampers Her Wife - Chapter 50
“Really?” The voice on the other end was soft, barely audible above the hurried sound of the rain.
Gu Muchu drove out of the underground garage and connected her phone via Bluetooth. The Omega’s breathing immediately filled the car, mingling with the rising warmth from the heater, creating a sensation like walking on cotton.
Her suspended heart finally found a foothold, slowly settling down.
What could have happened?
She refused to believe Gu Yiqiong could have taken the Omega away right under her nose.
Gu Muchu suppressed her lingering unease and, adopting Ji Yuran’s cheerful tone, replied, “Really!”
“Really?” Ji Yuran asked skeptically, seemingly sensing the sadness hidden beneath her forced smile.
“Really.”
“Really?” The back-and-forth exchange became meaningless.
But every word spoken to someone you love doesn’t need meaning. Perhaps simply cherishing the moments of closeness is what imbues them with profound significance.
Gu Muchu turned on the windshield wipers. The evergreen branches lining the street swayed violently, accompanied by the rustling of leaves.
The humidifier released a fine mist. Her gaze fixed on the road ahead, she felt helpless against the person on the other end of the line and had no choice but to yield.
“Liar.”
To her surprise, this answer only irritated Ji Yuran further. She muttered softly, her voice distorted by the speaker, the grainy timbre scratching at Muchu’s nerves.
“You can’t have secrets…” Realizing how possessive she sounded, Ji Yuran’s voice faltered in the second half of her sentence.
“And why not?” Gu Muchu feigned hurt, her voice muffled. “Who are you to me? What right do you have to control me?”
Silence fell on the other end.
Muchu could practically picture Ji Yuran’s frustrated expression, her lips pressed into a thin line, struggling to find the right words. She might even be angrily tapping her phone screen in frustration, like a petulant child.
“I’m asking you—who am I to you?” The more Ji Yuran resisted, the more Muchu pressed, relishing this rare spark of amusement in her otherwise monotonous life.
How had she never realized she could be this mischievous before?
“You’re… you’re…” Ji Yuran stammered, caught off guard like a student suddenly called on in class.
The Omega’s temperament was fascinating. Usually so insistent on boundaries, stubbornly pushing back against any hint of control, she now clung to obedience, answering the question directly.
“What am I?” Gu Muchu asked, but after a long pause, she couldn’t articulate her thoughts, growing inexplicably anxious.
“Then why should I go first? You know perfectly well.”
There was a rustling sound of fabric rubbing together on the other end, followed by Ji Yuran’s muffled reply.
She’s hiding.
Like a candle burning steadily behind a thin, translucent window paper, its flame flickered with their uneasy emotions, threatening to burn a hole through the barrier—a moment of mutual understanding—only to be blown back by the other party.
Neither side was willing to yield, each stubbornly refusing to lower their head first. Despite their normally mild-mannered personalities, they were locked in a silent battle of wills.
“Know what?” Gu Muchu raised an eyebrow, her eyes brimming with amusement, even though she knew Ji Yuran couldn’t see her. “I have no idea.”
“You do.”
“I don’t,” she drawled, relishing the Omega’s growing frustration.
Finally, Ji Yuran gave up the struggle, letting out a cold huff.
“Fine, play tough. You’ll choke on it.”
As if hearing a joke, Gu Muchu chuckled softly, her inquisitive spirit pressing on. “Why do you say that?”
“I think you’re the one who’s losing your patience first,” Gu Muchu said.
“Do you underestimate me?” The other end of the line crackled with barely suppressed anger. She enunciated each word deliberately: “Very well. We’ll see.”
Before Gu Muchu could reply, the dial tone blared through the speakers.
The gloomy, rainy weather, the abruptly ended call, and the tense exchange felt like a classic scene from a melodramatic breakup movie.
Finally alone, Gu Muchu could focus on driving.
From above, pedestrians with their umbrellas looked like vibrant, exotic flowers blooming amidst the towering skyscrapers.
At a red light, she leaned back in her seat, tapping her fingers rhythmically on the steering wheel, and let out a nervous chuckle.
Glancing at the call that had been disconnected long ago, she tilted her head and stared at it for a long moment, repeatedly tapping the “back” button on the Bluetooth connection screen until she returned to the home screen, finally feeling a sense of calm.
“Hanging up on me, huh?”
She propped her forehead against her hand, brushing aside stray strands of hair. Her gaze drifted past the swishing windshield wipers, peering through the misty road ahead.
On the dashboard sat an adorable Shiba Inu toy, its tongue lolling out in a cheerful grin as it stared at Gu Muchu.
She had casually bought it during a shopping trip with Ji Yuran.
“You’re the happiest one,” she said, gently patting the Shiba Inu’s head, unable to hide the amusement in her voice.
That day’s incident marked a turning point, and the two women settled into a routine. Ji Yuran filmed scenes from dawn till dusk, while Gu Muchu juggled endorsement deals and kept a wary eye on the Gu and Shen families.
They barely had time for phone calls, let alone video chats.
Finally, Gu Muchu managed to carve out some time. Using Shen Yiyan’s connection, she contacted Shen Xu and decided to visit him at the Shen Family’s company.
As she stepped out of the elevator, countless eyes turned her way. The Alpha stood tall and elegant, her refined features mostly hidden behind sunglasses. Her long, straight black hair cascaded over her shoulders, and even strangers couldn’t help but be captivated by her commanding presence.
The office door stood wide open, and passersby occasionally glanced inside before hurrying on.
As Gu Muchu approached, she clearly heard whispers reaching her ears. Though she couldn’t make out the words, she knew they were discussing her.
While the marriage alliance between the Gu and Shen families wasn’t yet set in stone, it was hard to ignore the rumors after the Gu Corporation’s annual gala, especially with Lu Panwei’s presence.
The office was quiet and spacious, with a subtle fragrance of incense lingering in the air. Gu Muchu glanced at the Omega working diligently at his desk before raising her hand to knock.
The person at the desk looked up, recognizing her instantly. His eyes reflected the pen in his hand as he stood up, the wooden chair scraping harshly against the floor.
“Miss Gu, what brings you here personally?”
Shen Xu walked over to the sofa and poured her a cup of tea.
Considering the private nature of their discussion, Gu Muchu closed the door behind her.
One wall of the office was lined with solid wood bookshelves, their unevenly spaced compartments filled with expensive carved ornaments. A traditional Chinese painting hung beside them.
A complete tea set sat on the low wooden table, two steaming cups emitting a cloying blend of tea and incense that made her head ache.
“Since you wouldn’t come when invited, I came myself,” Gu Muchu said, gripping her handbag without setting it down. She lifted her gaze to meet Shen Xu’s.
The Omega had a clean, unremarkable appearance that wouldn’t stand out in a crowd. Yet, bolstered by his prestigious family background, he was reasonably presentable.
If she hadn’t known about his actions, she wouldn’t have given him a second glance.
Sensing the hostility in her tone, Shen Xu cleared his throat and gestured for her to sit.
“I feel terrible making you come all this way. Please, don’t stand on ceremony. Make yourself comfortable.”
A false smile hung on his face, flawless and impeccable. He was the type elders adored—composed, unhurried, and gentle in demeanor.
Perhaps accustomed to birds struggling free from thorny thickets, Gu Muchu felt a flicker of repulsion toward his submissive, domesticated air.
When one’s heart is preoccupied with someone, they inevitably compare that person to others, like displaying a victory medal on their chest, brimming with pride.
Compared to Ji Yuran, Shen Xu seemed remarkably ordinary, even though to outsiders, he appeared more distinguished and a better match for her.
Gu Muchu had no interest in superficial compatibility. She cut straight to the chase, pulled out her phone, and started recording.
The faint sounds amplified into a chaotic jumble, yet Gu Yang’s voice remained distinct.
From the moment Gu Muchu stood her ground, Shen Xu knew she meant business. After listening to the recording in silence, he flashed a harmless smile.
“What’s the meaning of this?”
“You know exactly what it means.” Gu Muchu stopped the recording, the air crackling with tension.
The Omega remained composed, refusing to lose his temper despite being exposed. He shrugged innocently. “Miss Gu, have you been misled?”
Gu Muchu nearly laughed in exasperation. “You won’t admit it?”
“Miss Gu, perhaps you’ve spent too long in the entertainment industry and don’t understand business dealings. These petty tricks are beneath me; I wouldn’t stoop to such tactics.”
Gu Muchu didn’t need to elaborate. Shen Xu immediately grasped her meaning, launching into a vehement defense with an unwavering expression that betrayed no hint of deceit.
After a brief silence, Shen Xu softened his tone. “Miss Gu, I don’t know what has caused you to misunderstand me…”
“Shen Xu,” Gu Muchu said, pressing her fingers to her forehead as she solemnly called out the Omega’s name.
The prepared excuses died in Shen Xu’s throat, replaced by a sudden, inexplicable tension. Alphas naturally exert dominance over Omegas, and even with a pheromone blocker patch, he still felt a physiological unease.
Gu Muchu took a deep breath and said casually, “Whether you believe me or not is irrelevant. You should know that I came to you solely to find a pretext for canceling our engagement.”
The man rested his hand on the armrest, paused for a moment, and then spoke slowly.
“Miss Gu, I have no choice in the matter,” he said, lowering his gaze as if lost in recollection. “So, could you please show me some understanding, even if only in front of our elders?”
“No,” Gu Muchu replied.
In a way, both Zi Ning and Ji Yuran were proud individuals. The difference lay in their approach: Zi Ning was more reserved, her sharp edges hidden beneath a soft exterior. Only when someone crossed her boundaries would she reveal her formidable side.
The atmosphere grew tense. Shen Xu, caught off guard by her blunt refusal, felt a vein throbbing at his temple as his breathing grew heavy.
“You only think I’m not good enough because you don’t like me,” he said, each word deliberate. “And you think she’s perfect because you do like her.”
The “she” he referred to was, of course, Ji Yuran.
Though Shen Xu’s family background couldn’t compare to the Gu Family’s, he had grown up with a silver spoon in his mouth. Being outshone by an obscure actress was a bitter pill to swallow.
He had once glimpsed Ji Yuran at an annual gala—her presence was striking, her beauty radiant.
Yet her aura paled in comparison to Gu Muchu’s.
The previously hesitant Zi Ning felt a secret surge of satisfaction. What good was love when faced with practical interests? Sentimentality crumbled before pragmatism.
But he never imagined Gu Muchu would publicly humiliate herself for that Omega.
“You’re wrong.”
Gu Muchu pressed her lips together, Ji Yuran’s expressions when they were together suddenly flashing through her mind, as if her heart had been brushed by a feather.
“It’s because she’s good enough that I like her.”
