The Scumbag Alpha's Redemption in a Sweet Romance - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
As expected, her office desk was completely empty, with nothing on it but a flourishing money tree. It didn’t matter. She wasn’t actually here to work. She just wanted to investigate who was responsible for the problematic potions in the original plot.
She had been sitting for less than ten minutes when she was drawn in by the repeated “Good morning, CEO.” Through the window, she saw Ning Qing heading toward the office. This was the real CEO. The entire company, except for the 18th floor, was under Ning Qing’s control. Of course, when Ning Chun wasn’t around, the 18th floor was also under her control. The difference between her and Ning Qing was probably the difference between a top-tier CEO and a CEO who was just playing around.
Seeing that Ning Chun was actually there, Ning Qing almost laughed out loud. “Oh, the sun’s rising from the west. Your desk hasn’t gathered any dust, has it?”
“It’s fine. Someone’s taking care of it. It’s very clean,” Ning Chun replied nonchalantly, leaning back comfortably in her chair. Ning Qing came so quickly, which meant there were a lot of her spies on this floor.
“By the way, I want to see the research and development plans for the potions.”
Ning Qing was a little surprised. Her original intention was for Ning Chun to stay under her supervision and not cause any trouble, but she didn’t expect her to actively look for things to do.
“Sure. I’ll arrange it for you right now,” Ning Qing said, nodding her head and making a phone call. Two sentences were enough to summon the manager of the R&D department. The manager was a serious Beta who had come here right after graduation and was very experienced.
“CEO, you called for me?” The R&D manager first looked at Ning Qing, then turned to greet Ning Chun. “Good morning, Ms. Ning.”
“I’ve called the person for you. I have a meeting, so I’ll be heading back upstairs.” Ning Chun waved her hand, sending her sister off.
She leaned forward, her elbows on the desk. “Get me the R&D plans for the last three months. I want to take a look.”
The manager was visibly stunned. He didn’t expect Ning Chun to ask for these things. She had never been interested before.
“What, can’t I look?” Ning Chun asked, her face serious.
“No, no, I’ll go get them now.”
Half an hour later, Ning Chun’s desk was piled with more than ten neatly bound stacks of documents. Inside were products that had already been released and those that were still in development. Ning Chun briefly glanced through them and felt a headache coming on. The problem was that she couldn’t understand them. The complex data, astronomical charts, and even some of the units and symbols were completely unfamiliar to her. She looked through them for a long time. When she looked up, the R&D manager was still there.
What a trustworthy person. He was actually still waiting.
“There’s nothing else. You can go back to work now. I’ll call for you if I need anything.” Seeing that Ning Chun was completely engrossed in the documents, the manager had no choice but to close the door and leave.
After half an hour of effort, Ning Chun leaned back against the chair in frustration. Her eyes were glazed over, and she couldn’t understand any of the data. Forget it. Professional matters should be left to professionals.
She suddenly remembered something. Why didn’t she have a secretary? If she had a professional and competent secretary, these documents wouldn’t be a problem at all. With that thought, she called Ning Qing.
At this time, Ning Qing had just finished a meeting. The person in the main seat of the top floor conference room saw the caller ID and laughed out loud. “Hello, what’s up?”
“Can you find me a secretary?” Ning Chun’s tired voice came through.
“What kind of crazy idea are you having now? Haven’t you learned your lesson from before? It’s impossible for me to find you a secretary.”
“What lesson—” The call was cut off before Ning Chun could ask.
Ning Chun guessed that there must have been some sort of problem with her previous secretary, otherwise Ning Qing wouldn’t have reacted like this. In that case, she would let it go for now.
After lunch, Ning Chun planned to go to the research lab. When she drove past a jewelry store, her car drove past it and then reversed. Ning Chun didn’t look at any other jewelry and went straight to the couple’s rings.
“Hello, can you show me this one?” The saleswoman, wearing black gloves, took out a pair of rings from the display case. One of the rings was simple, with no prominent diamond decorations, only diamonds embedded around the band. Ning Chun liked it immediately. It would be perfect for work. The other ring in the pair had a teardrop-shaped diamond that was cut perfectly and shone brightly under the lights. It would be very suitable for Yan Hua. Unfortunately, Ning Chun didn’t know Yan Hua’s ring size.
“Let me try this one.” Ning Chun put on the ring that she liked and nodded. “It’s good. I’ll take this one.”
The saleswoman was dumbfounded, but still smiled and said, “Miss, the one you’re looking at is a pair of rings. We don’t sell them separately, and they need to be custom-made in advance. The one you have on your hand is not for sale.”
“But I don’t know her ring size.”
“Are you buying this for your girlfriend?” the saleswoman asked tentatively. After all, this strange customer had only considered herself just now, so she couldn’t be sure of the identity of the other person.
“No,” Ning Chun said, looking at the ring on her hand. She liked it more the more she looked at it. “It’s for my wife.”
The saleswoman felt relieved and started a hard sell. “Then you definitely have to buy this pair of rings. This style is the only one in the world. And the diamond on this ring is all-natural, and can be adjusted according to your needs. May I be so bold as to ask for your wife’s birthday?”
Ning Chun thought for a moment and gave the answer. “November 15.”
The saleswoman’s smile grew even wider. “Then you can custom-make a diamond that is 11.15 carats to be set in the ring. I’m sure your wife will be very happy when she sees it.”
“That’s quite meaningful.” This sales pitch clearly convinced Ning Chun. “Then help me order a pair.”
“Of course. Please come over here to sign and pay the deposit.” The saleswoman eagerly led her to the rest area. “Also, you can add my contact information. You can tell me your wife’s ring size later, and I’ll take care of it for you.”
After swiping her card, Ning Chun left the jewelry store empty-handed. Even though she didn’t have the rings in her hand, she felt a strange sense of excitement inside. Was she looking forward to Yan Hua’s reaction when she saw the rings? No, that can’t be it. She shook her head and drove away.
Since returning to work at the company, Ning Chun’s life had become much more fulfilling. It wasn’t until four days later that Ning Qing called again to remind her to come home for their Chairman’s birthday.
That day, Ning Chun brought Yan Hua back with her. The Ning family mansion was located in the Guting district, a famous neighborhood for mansions. After getting out of the car, Yan Hua tugged on Ning Chun’s sleeve, gesturing for her to take the gift she had prepared. Ning Chun glanced at it. It was a bunch of expensive medicinal herbs.
“What’s wrong? Is there a problem with the gift?”
“No, let’s go.” The gift was very thoughtful.
“Ning Chun.” Yan Hua didn’t move and called out to her. “Should I hold your hand? Auntie might overthink it.”
That made sense. Ning Chun turned back and held Yan Hua’s hand. As the two of them walked side by side, Yan Hua looked up at her and seemed a little dissatisfied. She slid her fingers, intertwining them with Ning Chun’s. Seeing Ning Chun look at her, she explained softly, “This looks more real.”
Ning Chun remembered something. She suddenly took Yan Hua’s hand and looked at it. Yan Hua was wearing a plain ring on her ring finger. Ning Chun put down the gift, took her hand, and naturally took off the ring, putting it in her pocket.
“It’s a little pokey,” she explained, and then interlaced their fingers again.
