The Scumbag Alpha's Redemption in a Sweet Romance - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Yan Hua seemed lost, and she didn’t even notice the many unusual things about Ning Chun. Ning Chun’s clothes were slightly dirty, her hair was disheveled, and she was out of breath. The moment she turned around and saw Yan Hua, she put down the hand that was clutching her injured area. She quickly walked up to her, her voice deliberately relaxed. “It’s over. Let’s go home.”
But Yan Hua just looked at her with disappointment, her nose stinging. She took a step back, dodging the hand that was reaching for her. “No, I’ll take a cab home myself,” she said, suppressing her pain.
In that instant, Ning Chun felt as if an invisible barrier had been forcibly placed between her and Yan Hua. They were standing right in front of each other, but it felt like they were a world apart.
“What happened, or did I do something wrong?” Ning Chun asked cautiously. It was too late, and she was worried about Yan Hua going back alone. Besides, the situation was spiraling out of her control.
Tears quickly welled up in her eyes. Yan Hua stubbornly looked up, her face utterly broken. She said with a trembling voice, “Is this part of your plan, too? Does it make you that happy to scheme against me?”
Warning: Mission 1 is about to fail. Please take immediate action to remedy the situation.
The system’s alert sounded like a death knell in Ning Chun’s mind. But this wasn’t the worst part yet.
“Let’s get a divorce.” In that moment, she even forgot to breathe. After doing so much, could she still not avoid the inevitable outcome? She wouldn’t accept this.
The heartless night wind blew Yan Hua’s long hair, and a strand brushed against Ning Chun’s chin. It was as if she had just woken up from a long dream. Ning Chun desperately wanted an answer. She grabbed Yan Hua’s shoulders, her voice earnest. “You say I’m scheming against you, so you should show me some proof. We’ve been together for so many days. You should know that I wouldn’t harm you.”
How was Yan Hua supposed to explain it? Her uncle had told her that Ning Chun was responsible for her mother’s car accident and that even her sister’s disappearance was intentionally arranged by Ning Chun. Yet Ning Chun was here, deceiving her and hypocritically saying she would help her. From start to finish, she was the instigator, and she was also putting on an act. Yan Hua found it ridiculous that Ning Chun still had the audacity to ask for proof.
Yan Hua shook off her hands and said mockingly, “You’ve done so many bad things, yet you still pretend to be a good person in front of me. Ning Chun, you’re disgusting.”
The nighttime streets were desolate. Ning Chun stood there alone, a wet trail sliding down from the corner of her eye. She raised her hand to wipe it away, only to realize that it was a tear. She got in her car to follow Yan Hua. In the early hours of the morning, there were few people and even fewer cars. She didn’t know if Yan Hua would be able to hail a cab.
Fortunately, Yan Hua hadn’t gone too far. Ning Chun slowed down and followed from a distance. Her phone showed a message, a weather alert warning citizens of a thunderstorm and advising them to avoid traveling. Ning Chun called the family driver. The other person quickly picked up. “Miss, what can I do for you?” She looked up, her eyes on that stubborn back. Ning Chun said, “I’ll send you a location. Go pick up Yan Hua. This time, I’ll pay you five times the normal rate.” The driver quickly agreed. He arrived quickly and successfully picked up Yan Hua. She didn’t refuse and obediently got into the car.
The two cars drove one after another, about ten meters apart, steadily heading home. Ning Chun only truly relaxed when Yan Hua was safely inside the house. The housekeeper was also still awake, waiting for them to return. The two of them didn’t look well, so it was clear that something had happened.
“Miss, what’s wrong?” the housekeeper asked with concern. Ning Chun rubbed her swollen temples, feeling overwhelmed by exhaustion. She didn’t pay it any mind. “Something came up at the company. I’ll have to work overtime tonight. Please take good care of Yan Hua for me.”
After saying that, she took long strides and left. The housekeeper chased after her, calling out, “There’s a huge thunderstorm tonight! It’s so unsafe to be out so late!”
Ning Chun ignored him and floored the gas pedal. She only slowed down after she had driven a long way. The thunderstorm arrived on time. The rain hit the windshield with a frantic, irritating sound. Ning Chun sped down the road. The lane was wide and empty, and water splashed up from the tires. This was the only way she could vent her frustration.
…
At three in the morning, Kan Yu was holding her laptop and sipping coffee, her face full of frustration as she looked at an English research paper. The group meeting was tomorrow, but she hadn’t sorted out her literature review yet. She was going to have to pull an all-nighter. She typed a few lines on the keyboard and let out a deep sigh.
A knock came at the door. She thought it was the food she had ordered, and her spirits lifted a little. She put down her laptop and went to open the door. When she opened it, a water-logged person was standing outside. At that moment, lightning flashed and thunder roared, making the sky bright white. The light hit Ning Chun’s soaked face and made her look terrifying.
“Cousin, are you a human or a ghost?” Kan Yu pushed her. She was alive and could move.
“I’m here to stay for the night.” Ning Chun was extremely tired at this point. She didn’t want to deal with anything. She just wanted to lie in bed and sleep.
“Oh, okay, come in quickly.” Kan Yu moved aside to let her in, and as she looked for some clean clothes, she teased, “Did you make a vow today?”
“What do you mean?” Ning Chun wiped the rain from her hair with a towel.
“Haven’t you heard? When a womanizer makes a vow, there will be thunder and lightning.” She then realized her mistake. “I’m not saying you’re a womanizer. It’s just a popular phrase on the internet.”
Ning Chun’s eyelashes fluttered. She took the clean clothes from Kan Yu’s hand. As she walked into the bathroom, she murmured, “I am a womanizer.” She showered quickly, finishing before she was completely exhausted.
The second bedroom was a mess, so Kan Yu let Ning Chun have her master bedroom. After all, she was going to be up all night anyway. Ning Chun lay in bed with her eyes closed. Everything that had happened today ran through her mind like a slideshow, especially the things about Yan Hua. She had said that Ning Chun disgusted her.
Ning Chun didn’t sleep well. Her body felt heavy, and she couldn’t seem to wake up. Her eyelids were also heavy. There were countless sounds in her ears, but she just couldn’t open her eyes. She had many strange and bizarre dreams. There were absurd scenes and jarring sounds. Finally, they all turned into a dagger in the void, which was plunged into her chest. The strange thing was that she didn’t feel any pain, only relief.
“Let’s get a divorce.” The words echoed in her mind as if in 3D surround sound, refusing to go away.
When she opened her eyes again, the sound of a machine’s regular “drip—drip—” was in her ears.
“Mom, my sister is awake.” Ning Qing’s face was right next to hers. She looked at Ning Chun with wide eyes, her voice filled with a sense of relief. “You’re finally awake. I thought you were going to sleep forever.”
Chairman Ning was also there. She came over anxiously, still holding a half-peeled apple in her hand. “How do you feel? Is there anything wrong?”
Ning Chun shook her head. She also had a lot of questions to ask. “Why am I in the hospital?”
“I’ll ask you first. Where did you get those injuries?” Chairman Ning’s tone was very dissatisfied. Seeing that her daughter wasn’t speaking, she got a little angry. “People are taking advantage of you, and you don’t even say a word. You’re so badly injured. Your mother was terrified.”
“Mom, you were the one who was terrified. You were even yelling about getting a team of bodyguards for my sister. You can just say you’re worried. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about,” Ning Qing said, not holding back at all.
Ning Chun squeezed out a smile on her pale face, her voice a little hoarse. “I’m fine. Just a little trouble.”
“Stop pretending! You’ve been in the hospital for two whole days. The whole family was worried sick.” Ning Qing saw that her lips were pale and moved a straw from a cup of water to her mouth. “And you have the nerve to say you’re fine. You’re so stubborn.”
This was a private VIP room. The only people with her were the Chairman and Ning Qing. Ning Chun scanned the room but couldn’t find the person she wanted to see.
“Where’s Yan Hua?” she couldn’t help but ask.
Ning Qing pretended to be angry. “Don’t you have any conscience? Mom and I are here with you. You don’t even say thank you, and you’re asking about someone else.”
Ning Chun smiled helplessly. But Ning Qing wouldn’t say anything, so she shifted her gaze to the Chairman. “Mom.”
It had been a long time since the Chairman had been called that by Ning Chun. Their relationship had always been strained. Hearing her say it softened the Chairman’s heart, and she told her everything. “Hua Hua and your mother are at home making chicken soup for you. They said they want to help you recover. If you want to see her, I’ll call them now.”
“No need. They’re coming over soon anyway.”
Ning Qing crossed her arms and recounted the events of the past two days, her voice full of shock and fear. “You have no idea. We all tried to call you, but you wouldn’t pick up. You almost scared Kan Yu to death. She thought you died at her place. After all that trouble, we finally found you, but you wouldn’t wake up no matter how much we called you. If you hadn’t still been breathing, we would have started CPR.”
“Thank goodness it was just a deep coma caused by physical exhaustion. You can recover after a couple of days. Otherwise, I don’t know how I would have explained it to the family.”
“Ning Qing, you’ve worked hard,” Ning Chun said, feeling a little bad. She had a general idea of what had happened. Controlling a high-ranked opponent with her mind would cause double the physical exhaustion, and the longer the time, the greater the harm. She only used it for a short while and ended up sleeping for two days. It seemed she had to be careful with it until her rank increased.
She had been surviving on nutritional supplements for the past two days. Ning Chun’s stomach was empty, and she really wanted to eat. Ning Qing quickly checked her phone. “Mom and sister-in-law are almost here. Mom and I have to go to the company, so we won’t stay for dinner. I’ll come see you tonight.”
“Okay.”
Mrs. Xu and Yan Hua arrived as promised. They had prepared many nourishing dishes and were determined to help Ning Chun recover.
“You’re finally awake. You must be starving after sleeping for so long,” Mrs. Xu said, personally wiping Ning Chun’s face and hands and carefully scooping out the chicken soup to feed her.
Ning Chun tilted her lips and didn’t drink. She looked at Mrs. Xu with a longing expression. When Mrs. Xu looked back, she shifted her gaze to Yan Hua, who was standing to the side. Since she walked in, she hadn’t said a single word.
Mrs. Xu gave her a helpless look, put down the soup bowl, and gently said, “Hua Hua, you feed Little Chun. My wrist suddenly hurts so much that I can’t hold the bowl.”
Ning Chun had an IV drip on her hand, which made it inconvenient. But she awkwardly reached for the soup bowl, pretending that she didn’t want to trouble anyone. Yan Hua had no choice but to put down what she was holding and take the soup bowl. Ning Chun took the opportunity to pull back her hand, revealing her forearm. The bruises on it were shocking, and the injuries were even more severe than before.
