The Scumbag Alpha's Redemption in a Sweet Romance - Chapter 16
Chapter 16
The chicken soup in the bowl was fresh and steaming. Yan Hua wasn’t in the mood to feed her, so she just scooped up a spoonful and shoved it toward her mouth. Ning Chun, being hungry, opened her mouth and drank it, wincing at the heat.
“It’s so hot, so hot.” Her bloodless lips quickly turned red, and Ning Chun couldn’t help but appeal to Ms. Xu for help.
Ms. Xu had noticed, of course, but she felt it wasn’t her place to intervene. Affairs between a couple should be handled by the couple themselves.
Ms. Xu said with great understanding, “It’s hot? How about this, I’ll go downstairs and buy you some ice cream. You can have it after you finish the chicken soup.”
This was not a chicken soup issue, but Ning Chun, trapped in bed, could only watch Ms. Xu leave. In the room, it was just her and Yan Hua.
“Are you trying to murder your own wife?” she teased, then gave a self-deprecating laugh. “At least let me die with some understanding.”
At this moment, Ning Chun’s long hair was draped over her shoulders, her forehead obscured by wisps of hair. Perhaps because she hadn’t eaten in two days and the nutrient solution wasn’t enough, her jawline was even more gaunt, and she looked quite listless. The way she was half-sitting up in bed, coupled with her melancholic expression, gave the impression that she might not survive the day.
Yan Hua looked at her fragile state and couldn’t help but wonder, was she so important to her? A few harsh words in a fit of rage had affected Ning Chun so deeply that she ended up in the hospital. Yan Hua had thought a lot about it over the past two days, and her mind was a mess. She should have thrown the divorce papers in Ning Chun’s face that night, but she found she just couldn’t do it.
“I don’t want to talk about it now. We’ll talk after you’ve recovered and are out of the hospital.” Yan Hua picked up the bowl, blew on the chicken soup in the spoon to cool it, and then fed it to her.
Ning Chun leaned in and drank it.
“Are we talking about divorce? I won’t agree,” Ning Chun’s gaze toward Yan Hua was firm. She would do anything, but divorce was not an option. “What about your injuries? Were they because of me?”
The conversation returned to Ning Chun. She thought back to that night and suddenly asked, “When you were talking to your uncle, did you mention me?”
Yan Hua thought for a moment and shook her head. “No, he just asked me how I got there.” The thugs weren’t there from the start. They were summoned on the spot after it was discovered Ning Chun was there. The plan for that night was very sudden, and no one knew Ning Chun would go, unless someone was deliberately watching her.
“Yan Hua.” Ning Chun grabbed her hand and, as if making a promise, said, “No matter what anyone tells you, you must maintain your own judgment. There are some things I can’t prove right now, but I can tell you this: I will definitely help you rescue your sister, no matter the cost.”
Yan Hua’s fingers gripped the edge of the bowl tightly, as if making a decision. “Then show me. If you really do it, I’ll believe you this one time.”
After Ning Chun finished eating, the doctor ran a few more tests. Her vitals were all normal, and she was recovering well. She could be discharged that night. But Ms. Xu was still a little worried, so she could only ask Yan Hua to take good care of Ning Chun.
As they were packing, A-xuan came to help. Ning Chun’s phone buzzed. She opened it, and her expression changed slightly. The lab had sent the test results.
A-xuan was so happy to see Ning Chun awake. “Sister Chun, I came to see you every day, but you were sleeping. Do you want to come stay at our house? We’re all there and can take care of you.” The house A-xuan was talking about was the Ning family’s, not the one Ning Chun shared with Yan Hua.
Ning Chun placed her hand on A-xuan’s arm with an apologetic smile. “I’ve been lying down for so long, I don’t know how to move my legs.”
“I’ll help you up.” A-xuan went to support her, and Ning Chun gasped. “You’re pressing on my wound! Ow ow ow!”
“I didn’t mean to.” A-xuan was worried and looked wronged. “Are you okay, Sister Chun?” Her sleeve was pulled back, revealing a large area of bruises.
“How did you get so badly hurt?” A-xuan almost lunged forward to see. The concern in her eyes wasn’t fake, and she demanded to get the best medicine from a doctor so there wouldn’t be any scars.
Ning Chun grabbed her wrist. “It’s fine. It’ll heal on its own in a few days.” If her right hand was fine, it must be the left one. Ning Chun took her left hand and made her sit down. Using the movement to hide what she was doing, she saw the accessory on A-xuan’s wrist: a custom-made lover’s bridge watch. There was nothing unusual, so maybe she was just overthinking it.
They were pulling and shoving for a while. Yan Hua stood behind them with her arms crossed, watching them closely. Ning Chun felt a chill down her spine. She turned, saw Yan Hua, and immediately let go. “A-xuan, thank you for the trouble of getting me some medicine from the doctor.” With that, she pushed her out.
“Hey, Sister Chun—” Before A-xuan could finish, Ning Chun closed the door. She walked toward Yan Hua with a sheepish smile. “My hand is inconvenient. Could you help me change?”
Yan Hua threw a few clean clothes on the bed. She tilted her head, clearly unwilling to help. “You were just hopping around. I didn’t see that your hand was inconvenient.”
“Didn’t you always want to know what I was doing? If you help me change, I’ll tell you.”
The IV line on Ning Chun’s hand had been removed, and the back of her fair hand was bruised, which was very obvious. She sat obediently on the edge of the bed and raised her hand. Yan Hua helped her unbutton her hospital gown. Underneath, she was only wearing a simple white chest wrap. Ning Chun only looked thin, but her arms and abdomen had firm, toned muscles. Her shoulder and neck lines were beautiful, beautiful enough to make someone want to lock her up with a gemstone-encrusted chain and have her follow with a simple flick of a finger.
Yan Hua brought her a button-down shirt. When she was putting it on her arm, she realized something was wrong. Ning Chun’s body was very stiff. Yan Hua leaned closer and saw Ning Chun’s chest rise and fall with her breathing. She could almost smell her scent.
“Raise it a little higher,” Yan Hua said, lifting her arm. Ning Chun turned her head and bit her lip. It really hurt. It was then that Yan Hua realized that she really couldn’t lift her arm.
“Don’t move. I’ll help you.” Fortunately, the clothes were very light, and Ning Chun wearing them didn’t press on the wound.
Ms. Xu insisted on taking her home because she was worried. At the door, A-xuan handed her the medicine she bought. “Sister Chun, use these first. If you need anything, just call me.”
“A-xuan is so thoughtful to buy so much,” Ms. Xu said, surprised and touched by the amount of ointment. After seeing Ms. Xu off, Ning Chun went upstairs. As soon as she stepped into the room, Ning Qing called.
I’m not a mascot. You don’t have to come see me. I’ll need you for the company stuff.
Ning Qing said on the phone, I’m starting to wonder if you and working are a bad match. You’ve only been working for a few days and you’re already in the hospital. Maybe you should just quit. The company can run without you.
Ning Chun lay on the bed, speechless. Can’t you say something nice? This was an accident. I’ll be back in a few days. Before hanging up, she added, Thank you for helping with the secretary thing.
It’s a small thing. I know what everyone around you is up to. I hold on to some leverage just in case I need to use it at a critical moment.
Then send me the information on my company’s employees, including the leverage you were talking about.
After hanging up, Yan Hua came out of the walk-in closet with a pair of pajamas. Ning Chun looked closely and saw that they were her own. “The water is hot. Do you want to wash up?” Yan Hua placed the pajamas next to her.
Ning Chun did smell of medicine and disinfectant, so it was necessary to clean up. But her right hand couldn’t be raised, so she couldn’t bother Yan Hua again. She decided to make do. She picked up the pajamas and walked toward the bathroom. Yan Hua asked from behind, “Do you need help?”
Ning Chun gave a faint smile. “No, I can do it myself.” She hadn’t reached the point where she could expose her body in front of Yan Hua. It would be too awkward.
“But the doctor said your wound can’t get wet.” The meaning was clear. Her steps froze at the door, and Ning Chun pretended to be clueless. “I’m very fast. A quick rinse will be fine. It should be okay for a little while.” With that, she slammed the door shut, afraid someone would follow her in.
She did wash up very quickly. As soon as she came out, Yan Hua pulled her over to put on medicine. Looking at the numerous injuries, Yan Hua couldn’t help but say, “If you can’t win, then run. You get yourself so hurt every time. I don’t want to put medicine on you again. It’s so much trouble.”
Ning Chun didn’t like what she said. “Who said I couldn’t win? I win every time, and they were even multiple against one.” With that, as if to prove how strong she was, she lifted her shirt to show off her muscles. “Look here, it’s very firm.”
Yan Hua’s hand was now on Ning Chun’s waist. The action was overly intimate, but Ning Chun didn’t seem to think so. The warmth of her palm passed through their skin. Her pink fingertips couldn’t help but press down. It was very elastic. That part of her waist was firm and slender, full of strength.
Yan Hua suppressed the urge to pinch, instead greedily pressing her wrist down to increase the contact area. Her breathing became heavier, and Yan Hua’s face started to flush. Ning Chun was still moving her arm, thinking about how she should exercise more tomorrow.
“What’s wrong with you?” Ning Chun felt something was off. She reached out and pushed Yan Hua’s hair away, revealing her pink scent gland. The color was normal; it wasn’t a susceptible period. “Your face is so hot.” Ning Chun put her palm against the side of Yan Hua’s face. As she was about to pull away, Yan Hua stopped her and leaned her head on Ning Chun’s shoulder. “Don’t move. I’m just a little hot. I’ll be fine in a bit.”
“Hot, huh.” Ning Chun didn’t move. The windows in the room were closed. She thought of the lab and pushed Yan Hua. “How about we go for a drive? It must be cool outside.”
Yan Hua secretly glared at her, finding her clueless. But the more Ning Chun thought about it, the more excited she got. She thought going for a drive would cool them down and let her handle some business. It was a win-win.
She kept talking in Yan Hua’s ear. It wasn’t loud, but it was annoying. The skin on her neck was very fair, and Yan Hua could even see the purplish-blue veins beneath the surface. Yan Hua licked her lips and bit her collarbone.
The world instantly went quiet. Ning Chun was stunned. This was the second time she had been bitten. Yan Hua, having succeeded, looked up at her chest and threatened, “If you keep talking, I’ll bite you again.” So, she was just annoyed that she was talking too much.
In the end, the two of them went for a drive. Yan Hua drove, and Ning Chun sat in the passenger seat. The whole way, Ning Chun kept touching her collarbone. She felt that a mark had been left there. No one knew, but it bothered her.
