The Scumbag Alpha's Redemption in a Sweet Romance - Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Following the navigation, they arrived at the laboratory.
“Where is this?” Yan Hua asked, looking at the unfamiliar place.
“A lab. There’s something very important inside,” Ning Chun said, opening the door for her. The two of them entered one after the other.
“Miss Ning, why are you here at this hour?” Dr. Zhang, who had just come out of the sterile lab, asked in surprise when he saw her. Dr. Zhang was a key staff member of the lab, with shoulder-length hair and a pale, scholarly face.
“I received the results you sent, and I wanted to come and take a look as soon as possible to understand the situation.” With that, they walked to the report room.
Dr. Zhang saw the unfamiliar face next to her and politely asked, “And this is…?”
Ning Chun held Yan Hua’s hand and smiled slightly. “She’s my wife. She’s not an outsider.” In terms of status, Ning Chun always gave Yan Hua a full sense of security. She always introduced Yan Hua to others openly and generously, leaving no room for them to overthink.
Dr. Zhang was a little surprised. “I didn’t expect Miss Ning to be married at such a young age.”
Several reports were spread out on the table. Dr. Zhang pushed his silver-rimmed glasses up his nose. “Based on the results, nearly 95% of the components here are differentiation factors, which is four to five times higher than the agents on the market.”
“That high?” Ning Chun didn’t understand the effect of differentiation factors or what a 95% value meant. She only cared about the agent’s function. “So what are the main uses of this agent?” She was listening so intently that she didn’t notice that Yan Hua, who was sitting next to her, was a little stiff, her hands clenched tightly under the table.
“Differentiation factors are special drugs. You can only get them at a regular hospital, and even then, they must be injected on the spot by a certified physician. It is absolutely forbidden to take them away,” Dr. Zhang said, sitting up straight with a serious expression. “So this agent can only be an illegal drug.”
Dr. Zhang precisely pulled out a few pages from the thick stack of A4 paper and placed them in front of them. “Look here.” They were two comparison charts of data. The data on one of them was significantly higher.
“This agent is very active and special. It’s clearly different from the artificially created factors we usually see,” Dr. Zhang said, leaning forward and resting his hands on the table, giving his conclusion: “I suspect there’s an 80% chance it was extracted from a living person.”
Ning Chun was just horrified to hear this. In such an advanced era, people were still extracting agents from living people.
Plap! A folder on the table fell to the floor. Yan Hua’s hands and feet went cold. She instinctively reached to pick it up, but Ning Chun picked it up before her. When Ning Chun’s eyes met hers, there was a clear look of panic and unease. Ning Chun took her cold hand and warmed it with the heat of her palm.
The comforting warmth calmed Yan Hua down a lot. Ning Chun’s eyes softened, and she said to her with a smile, “My fault. I didn’t bring you a jacket, and the lab is cold. You should go wait in the car.”
Yan Hua nodded. Ning Chun walked her out.
When she came back, she heard Dr. Zhang say with envy, “You and your wife have a very good relationship.”
Ning Chun said half-jokingly, “She’s my life.”
Getting back to the topic at hand, Dr. Zhang strongly recommended that she destroy the agent. “This drug is very dangerous. Besides being an illegal drug, a certain dosage will force a change in the original gender. The hidden dangers are also very great. It can cause disability in minor cases and death in severe ones.”
The two of them chatted for a while. The most obvious and sought-after effect of this agent was gender change. Differentiation was a natural process, but some people wanted their children to differentiate into an Alpha and would spare no expense to find a drug. Since regular hospitals couldn’t provide it, this led to the creation of gray-market medicine and agents.
Yan Hua sat in the car. It was warmer here than inside, but she was still sweating cold. She couldn’t help but remember, and her body was trembling. The car door opened, and Ning Chun came back. She put a warm cup of milk tea in Yan Hua’s hand, tore open the straw’s packaging, and helped her put it in. She didn’t ask anything and just said, “Drink a little to warm yourself up.”
Tears streamed uncontrollably from her eyes. Yan Hua took a deep breath and tightly held the milk tea in her hands. It was hot, but she didn’t want to let go.
“Are you hungry? Do you want to go get a late-night snack?” Ning Chun scrolled through restaurants on her phone, thinking she was cold because she hadn’t eaten enough that night and her body lacked energy.
“Ning Chun, there’s something I want to tell you,” Yan Hua said, sniffing and looking at her with wet eyes. Since she had made the decision, she wouldn’t regret it. It couldn’t get any worse than this.
“Go ahead,” Ning Chun said, putting her phone down and listening to her intently.
“My sister’s body is special. She gets sick often. Especially during her differentiation period at sixteen, she was in a coma for a long time. Her body is different from others. She can choose her own differentiation outcome instead of leaving it to fate. Because of this, she had a huge fight with my mother and even tried to commit suicide, but in the end, she was forced to differentiate into an Alpha.”
Her mother’s idea was simple. She hoped to have an Alpha in the family to support the family and not be bullied by others. But her sister had her own ideas and wanted to decide for herself.
“After the differentiation period ended, my mother specifically told us to keep this a secret, but in the end, someone with ill intentions found out,” she said, looking up and holding Ning Chun’s hand. “Ning Chun, do you think Qingqing can come back? Those people will definitely hurt her.” Yan Hua was very worried, and her voice was filled with a clear sob.
Ning Chun couldn’t speak because the system had prompted her before but had never announced the mission as failed. This could only mean that Yan Qingqing’s situation was very bad, and she had to act quickly to find her. If she acted prematurely, it would alert the enemy, and the mastermind behind these serious consequences would likely hide even deeper. But Yan Hua was crying so sadly. This fragile state was something Ning Chun couldn’t handle. She could only comfort and care for her in her own way.
Later, as they were resting, Yan Hua looked at Ning Chun’s back and said, “Can you hold my hand while we sleep? I’m still cold.”
Ning Chun blinked. That wouldn’t be very good, and it would be inconvenient since she didn’t sleep well. She pointed to the air conditioner. “How about we turn on the heat?” even though it wasn’t cold enough for the heat.
Yan Hua lowered her head, her fingers clutching the edge of her clothes, and whispered, “But I won’t be able to sleep well. I’ll have nightmares.”
Fine. Ning Chun lifted the blanket and lay flat, extending her right hand toward her. “Come on, I’ll help you chase away the nightmares.” Ning Chun felt that Yan Hua was very insecure tonight and was willing to take care of her a little more. It was just holding hands. It wasn’t a big deal.
When she woke up the next morning, she realized something was wrong. Her entire arm was being held. Yan Hua was facing her, her hair a mess, her sleeping face serene. Besides her swollen eyes, everything was perfect. Ning Chun couldn’t help but turn to look at her. How could someone be so beautiful? Her fair skin was translucent, with nothing but tiny hairs on her face, making her look like a clean doll. Her facial features were perfectly proportioned, and her eyes held a natural charm. This was the first time she had looked at her so closely. The first ray of morning light came through the window, and Ning Chun unconsciously swallowed. She really wanted to take a bite. How could she have such dirty thoughts?
Putting all those messy thoughts aside, Ning Chun did her best to slowly pull her arm out, afraid of waking Yan Hua. Before leaving, she remembered that Yan Hua was afraid of the cold. She touched her forehead, and it was indeed a little cool. Ning Chun pulled the blanket up for her and adjusted the silent air conditioner to a comfortable temperature. After doing all this, she called Ning Qing.
It’s so early in the morning. Why are you calling? It’s Saturday today. The person on the other end was clearly not fully awake.
Ning Chun held the phone away from her ear. “Early to bed, early to rise makes you healthy, wealthy, and wise. I specifically woke you up, and you’re not happy about it.”
Get to the point!
Ning Chun was waiting for that. “Didn’t Mom say she would arrange bodyguards for me? I need them now.”
Ning Qing on the other end let out a long sigh, wanting to curse. “How many?”
Ning Chun thought for a moment. “Twenty, as many as possible.”
Are you crazy? Do you want to start a gang fight? Ning Qing clearly disagreed and didn’t want to give her a chance to do something bad.
“Oh, come on,” Ning Chun said with a laugh. “What are you thinking? I have a friend I haven’t seen in a long time. We’re going to pick her up today. I should make a grand entrance, right? Hurry up and arrange it for me. I want the kind who look like they can fight, tall and strong, and with a high rank if possible.”
Fine, fine, I can’t stand you. You have so many demands. Just wait.
With the people arranged, the next step was to plan the strategy. The red dot on her phone screen hadn’t moved for a long time, but it hadn’t disappeared either. Had they found it or not? The GPS chip was so small. If the other party had anti-surveillance awareness, they should have destroyed it long ago. What did it mean to keep it?
Ning Chun drove alone to an abandoned factory. The owner of the Yinpan bar had given her this address, but she hadn’t made it there that time. She had been there once afterward, but it was already empty. Fortunately, Ning Chun had noticed the torn-up ad and had successfully found the place and gotten the agent. However, the place was very tightly guarded. During the transaction, the thugs had surrounded them in layers. It was easy to get out but hard to get in. The thugs were also guarding a strange iron gate, and the security was very tight. The stolen agent was sent out from behind that door. She had to get inside that door and take a look.
Around noon, Ning Qing messaged her, saying that everyone was gathered and asked her to come and see if she was satisfied. She was very satisfied with the people. They were all well-built Alphas, and there were several B-ranks. However, they were all wearing formal suits and had brought exaggerated bouquets. How was she supposed to explain to them that they needed to fight before the welcome?
“Miss, before we came, the President told us to listen to your orders and not worry too much,” the team leader said to her.
Since that was the case, Ning Chun also told them how dangerous the situation was. “The main goal is to rescue someone. If you can fight, fight. If you can’t, run. Pay attention to your own safety. The moment I enter that door, you all retreat.”
