The Scumbag Alpha's Redemption in a Sweet Romance - Chapter 22
Chapter 22
“No, Cousin, I only contacted you after the treatment was finished this time.”
Ning Qing felt a headache coming on. If she remembered correctly, Ning Chun had only been discharged a few days ago, and now she was back in the hospital. She had to admit, marriage had changed her a lot. She no longer liked staying at home and preferred the hospital.
Kan Yu explained Ning Chun’s general condition. “Do you want to tell Auntie and the others?”
“Let’s not. They wouldn’t be able to handle it and would just worry again.” Ning Qing looked at the simple hospital room. Ning Chun’s admission was so sudden that nothing had been prepared. “I’ll hire a caregiver for her. You can check on her when you have time. With her current recklessness, she probably won’t die anytime soon.”
Ning Chun was in a daze, the anesthesia hadn’t completely worn off. She saw two blurry figures in front of her and thought she was still fighting monsters in the apocalypse. She shot up from the bed. “Monster, take this!” Unfortunately, she was too dizzy and her eyes rolled back as she fell down again.
The room was instantly silent.
Ning Qing clicked her tongue. She was sicker than she looked. She changed her mind. “Hire two caregivers for her.”
“By the way, how did she get to the hospital?”
Kan Yu suddenly remembered that Yan Hua still hadn’t returned. “Cousin-in-law brought her here. Cousin Ning Qing, do you know that the girl in the ICU is Cousin-in-law’s sister?”
Ning Qing was stunned at first. Her gaze fell on the unconscious Ning Chun, and everything made sense.
After her successful differentiation, Ning Chun’s self-healing ability was much stronger than before. Although it didn’t have a miraculous instant healing effect, the speed of her recovery surprised the doctors.
After three days in the hospital, her left ear could already hear some sounds. However, she had been a bit disoriented these past few days. The doctor said it was a side effect of the medication and she would recover after a while.
That day, Ning Chun was obediently sitting on the bed eating lunch as usual. Although she wasn’t a picky eater, she couldn’t stand bland food every day.
Looking at the bowl of bitter melon and scrambled eggs, Ning Chun frowned and protested, “I want spicy ribs.”
“No, the doctor said you have to watch your diet.”
“I also want seafood noodles.”
Yan Hua sat beside her, watching. “Are you still not going to tell me how you rescued Qingqing?”
Ning Chun looked up at the right moment, her expression very innocent. “Did you just talk to me? I’m a little deaf girl, I can’t hear anything.”
Sure enough, she wouldn’t miss a single opportunity to act shamelessly.
She boredly poked at the bitter melon in her bowl, wondering how to get rid of the unpalatable food.
Suddenly, her phone vibrated with an incoming call.
Ning Chun ignored it. Anyway, the phone had been turned off for several days, and no one had been looking for her. If Yan Hua hadn’t charged it and brought it to her, she would have forgotten she even had a phone.
The phone kept ringing, so Yan Hua had to answer it for her. The voice on the other end was lively, as if at a party. “Xiao Chun, let me tell you, your Aunt Zhang’s daughter is coming back from abroad. It’s been a long time since you’ve seen each other. This time, you’ll pick her up at the airport and also prepare a gift. Our two families will have a lively meal together and have a good time.”
Yan Hua lowered her eyes and replied softly, “Auntie, this is Yan Hua. It’s not convenient for Ning Chun to answer the phone right now.”
Just then, a nurse knocked on the door and loudly verified Ning Chun’s information. “Patient Ning Chun, Room 36, please get ready. It’s time to change your dressing.”
Ms. Xu’s tone immediately became serious. “Where are you? Are you in the hospital? What happened again?”
Yan Hua looked at Ning Chun with a difficult expression, but Ning Chun was just stubbornly poking the bitter melon.
She sighed and said, “Ning Chun is recovering very well. You don’t have to worry.”
“How can I not worry? She’s my daughter. Send me the address. I’m coming over now.”
By the time Ms. Xu arrived, Ning Chun had already had her dressing changed. Both of her ears were tightly wrapped, and she looked normal, just a little silly.
The moment she saw Ms. Xu, Ning Chun had a bad feeling. But she was her biological mother, so she had to give her an explanation.
After repeated questions, Ning Chun bit the bullet and lied, “I’m never doing extreme sports again. The explosion was too real. I didn’t expect it.”
“Which sports center was it? I’ll sue them until they go bankrupt for injuring my daughter like this.”
Ning Chun secretly thought that this kind of doting love made it hard not to raise a wayward child.
“It was a spur-of-the-moment thing, just a random outdoor place. The explosion was an accident.”
Seeing that Ms. Xu was about to ask more questions, Ning Chun immediately covered her ears. “My ears feel so bad and painful. I want to sleep for a while.”
Ms. Xu immediately threw her questions aside and tenderly helped her lie down to rest.
“Auntie, I’ll take care of her here. You should go back and rest.”
Ms. Xu refused. She was still worried and wanted to stay with Ning Chun herself.
Just then, Kan Yu came over. She saw Yan Hua coming out of the door and quickly greeted her. “Cousin-in-law, I have good news for you. Your sister’s condition has improved, and her vitals are stable. She’ll be transferred from the ICU to a regular room today.”
Yan Hua was also pleasantly surprised. “Really?”
These past few days, she could only look at her from a distance and didn’t know what her sister looked like inside.
But besides that, there was another thing that worried her. She asked with some difficulty, “The cost…”
Ever since she completely left the Yan family, the money she could control was pitifully small. Besides what was in her card, she couldn’t scrape together any more.
“It’s already been settled. It was charged to Cousin Ning Chun’s card. And the best medicine and technology were used. With consistent treatment, she’ll definitely recover.” Seeing her cousin-in-law’s astonished expression, Kan Yu couldn’t help but tease, “You two are so close. Why are you still distinguishing between your money and mine?”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“It’s fine. We’re all one family. As a doctor, my greatest wish is for my patients to recover as soon as possible. Cousin Ning Chun is your partner, and she must think the same way.” Kan Yu patted her on the shoulder and prepared to go into the room to check on Ning Chun.
Partner, Yan Hua thought. Could she and Ning Chun really become partners?
On the other side, Kan Yu’s foot, which had just stepped inside, discreetly moved back out. Why didn’t Cousin-in-law mention that Auntie was here too?
“Hey, Xiao Yu, are you here to see Xiao Chun?”
Kan Yu could only smile awkwardly and step back inside. “Yeah, I came to see my cousin. Auntie, what are you doing here?”
Ms. Xu sensed something was wrong and asked, “You knew about Xiao Chun’s hospitalization, so why didn’t you tell me?”
“Well, I was afraid you’d worry,” Kan Yu said, picking at her fingers. She wished she hadn’t come.
“Does Xiao Qing know that Xiao Chun is in the hospital?” Ms. Xu asked again.
Kan Yu chuckled. “I really don’t know. Why don’t you call her and ask? A colleague is looking for me from my department. I have to go to work now.” With that, she left as if her feet were greased.
Ms. Xu was left fuming in the hospital room. “Both of them are trying to deceive me. Do they really think I’m old and senile?”
Don’t be fooled by Ms. Xu’s usual pampered demeanor; she was decisive when she needed to be. In a short while, she had summoned several people.
Ms. Xu waited in the patient room’s sitting area. The butler who took care of Ning Chun, Ning Qing’s driver, and even Chairman Ning’s personal secretary were called, along with the two caregivers.
The atmosphere was as tense as a public trial. Ms. Xu pressured each of them to tell her everything they knew.
The butler spoke of Ning Chun’s unusual behavior before her hospitalization, mentioning her intimate interactions with Miss Yan.
The driver said the CEO did indeed come to the hospital but didn’t know what for.
The personal secretary only said that the bodyguard assigned to Miss Ning Chun had been reassigned, and someone was injured when they returned.
The two caregivers knew the least and couldn’t provide much useful information, only that they would take good care of Miss Ning during her recovery.
Ms. Xu didn’t even need to ask directly. She quickly found out what had happened.
She learned that the so-called “extreme sport” was almost getting blown up, and the purpose was to save someone.
Ning Chun was in her recovery period, and Ms. Xu felt sorry for her but was also truly angry. She could only dismiss everyone.
At the same time, she contacted the Chairman and called Ning Qing over for a family meeting.
Yan Hua was also included.
In the sitting area, four people sat opposite each other. The atmosphere was heavy, and no one’s expression was good.
Yan Hua clenched her fingers. After careful consideration, she decided to tell the truth. “It’s my fault. If I hadn’t told Ning Chun, she wouldn’t have been so seriously injured.”
“It’s her own fault. Cousin-in-law, you didn’t force her. And she didn’t discuss it with anyone before she did it. It was a pure impulse.” Ning Qing was a bit resentful. She was just helping, and now she was being dragged here to be scolded. It wasn’t worth it.
She had put in the work and effort, and now she had to bear the risk. What kind of a deal was that?
“Xiao Qing, your sister did something so dangerous, and you didn’t stop her and even hid it from us.” The Chairman also felt a sense of dread. If it weren’t for this incident, she wouldn’t have known she almost lost a daughter. “The most important reason for choosing you as the company successor is to handle family affairs well. Do you really think you’re not at fault at all?”
Ning Qing, though stubborn, felt a little regretful inside. She wished she had arranged for three times the bodyguards. “I know I was wrong.”
Ms. Xu spoke from her heart. “Hua Hua, you’ve been in our family for a while. We can all see that Xiao Chun likes you and treats you well, but we only have one Xiao Chun. We really don’t want her to get hurt too much. In the time you’ve been married, she’s been to the hospital twice. I know it’s not your fault, but we are genuinely worried.”
“So you mean…?” Yan Hua unconsciously tightened her grip on her fingers in her lap.
“I know my daughter. She’s stubborn and impulsive. When she sets her mind on something, she won’t give up easily, but I can’t let her do as she pleases. Since your sister needs your care, we’ll take care of Xiao Chun during this time.”
Was she trying to separate them?
Yan Hua slowly raised her head. A lump seemed to have formed in her throat, neither going up nor down, making her feel very uncomfortable.
“Auntie, I want to hear Ning Chun’s opinion.”
Separated by a door, Ning Chun pressed her left ear against the door of the sitting area to eavesdrop. Unfortunately, the distance was a bit far, and she couldn’t hear clearly. She had a feeling things weren’t going well.
Fortunately, she was quick. The second before she sensed footsteps, she jumped onto the bed and closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep.
In her subconscious, someone walked to her bedside, their footsteps heavy.
The warm, light breath grew closer and closer. Ning Chun felt her face get hot, and she couldn’t help but want to open her eyes.
