The Scumbag Alpha's Redemption in a Sweet Romance - Chapter 24
Chapter 24
“You just saw her.” Ning Qing leaned back in her chair lazily, looking like no one could talk her into anything.
Who else was there? Ning Chun couldn’t think of anyone but the secretary. But when the Song family left, the secretary also left with them.
“Absolutely not, absolutely not.” Ms. Xu flatly refused. “What is her status and what is your status?”
“My sister can choose her own partner. Why can’t I?”
Ning Chun, who was suddenly mentioned, stiffened slightly. This was different.
Ms. Xu walked back and forth in the lounge. She couldn’t accept the reality that both of her daughters were refusing arranged marriages.
“You are the heir of the Ning family and you carry the hopes of countless people. If you don’t have enough help, how are you going to get by in the future?” Ms. Xu clearly had high hopes for Ning Qing. She had seen her second daughter’s excellence and brilliance.
“I don’t need it. I have the ability to secure my position.” Ning Qing picked up her bag and got up to leave.
She left Ms. Xu behind, fuming. “Naive!”
If Ning Chun’s actions of presenting a fait accompli were dissatisfying, then Ning Qing’s rebellion was outright defiance.
The atmosphere suddenly became tense. Outside, the sun was shining brightly, but inside the hall, it was chilling.
Ning Chun was eager to get some sun, so she left with Yan Hua.
The two of them planned to go to the mall to buy some things. Before they could fasten their seatbelts, the back car door was pulled open from the outside. A black bag was thrown in, followed by Ning Qing, who sat down gracefully, pulling her skirt up.
Ning Qing saw her through the rearview mirror. Her face looked okay, and her eyes had a hint of shrewdness.
Unfortunately, Ning Chun had no intention of giving her a ride. “How did you get in? I thought you left?”
“My driver isn’t here. You can drop me off at the company.” Ning Qing rubbed her temples, feeling a little unwell. “If I hadn’t been drinking, I would have driven myself.”
“Miss Ning Qing, are you aware of a profession called a designated driver?” Ning Chun took out her phone, opened a designated driver app, and was ready to help her out.
“Are you sure?” Ning Qing scoffed. “If I call a designated driver, you’ll have to get out of my car.”
Ning Chun quickly locked her phone, pretending she hadn’t said anything.
Fine, it was indeed her car.
Ning Chun was helpless and had to seek Yan Hua’s advice.
Yan Hua was very understanding. “Let’s drop her off first. It’s on the way anyway.”
The car drove smoothly on the road. Ning Chun couldn’t contain her curiosity and asked, “Your secretary today looks a little unfamiliar. How come I’ve never seen her before?”
“You only work on and off. How do you expect to know everyone around me?” She was sarcastic, but her hands were busy. Ning Qing took out her makeup from her bag and carefully touched it up.
“But seriously, are you really planning to be with her?”
“No way.” Ning Qing opened her phone and started checking her messages. “I’m busy with my career, sis. I just brought her here to shut up Ms. Xu.”
Ning Chun’s mouth made an “O” shape. You could do that?
“No wonder she looked a little familiar. I think I’ve seen her somewhere before.” Yan Hua frowned and thought hard.
“She’s a professional actress from a formal training program. She’s played a few small roles,” Ning Qing added for her.
Ning Chun’s shoulder was suddenly patted twice. “Hey, I’m doing all this for you. You have to treat my sister-in-law well, or I’ll have gone to all this trouble for nothing.”
“How is this my fault?” Ning Chun refused to take the blame.
But Ning Qing didn’t let her off the hook. “Don’t you know that the Song family has made a fortune in the overseas market these past two years? A lot of people are vying for their attention. Mom saw that Song Xiaoran had feelings for you, which is why she dared to bring her home.”
“Don’t say things like that.” Ning Chun frowned, her expression not good. Yan Hua was right there.
“Fine, since my sister-in-law is here today, I won’t reveal your past.”
What people can’t stand the most is when someone tells them half a story and leaves the rest to their imagination. It’s easy for people to overthink.
For example, right now, the car was quiet, but a voice was ringing in everyone’s head.
Ning Chun’s memory of the past was completely blank. The plot provided by the system only revolved around the female protagonist. Her past with Song Xiaoran was only a few lines in the book.
Not many words, but it summarized a shocking argument.
Ning Chun couldn’t figure it out. If she and Song Xiaoran had really had feelings for each other back then, why didn’t they get together? Instead, they had a huge fight and lost all dignity.
Several years had passed, and the core had been replaced, yet the “white moonlight” had come back to make amends.
Ning Chun tried, but she couldn’t access that memory or feel the past affection for Song Xiaoran.
But in the beginning, when she first came into contact with the Ning family, that warmth and familiarity were genuinely there.
After dropping Ning Qing off, they went to the mall.
Yan Hua watched her at her leisure, not speaking, just looking at her calmly.
That gaze made Ning Chun feel uncomfortable all over. She rubbed her stiff face. “Am I weird? Why are you staring at me?”
Yan Hua shook her head. “No, you look great. I’m just a little curious about your history with this Miss Song.”
“Really? I feel like I’ve been neglecting my skincare lately, and my skin has gotten worse. Do you have any recommendations?” Ning Chun was fishing for information.
“I don’t have any to recommend. Maybe you should ask Miss Song. She probably has some.” Yan Hua raised an eyebrow slightly, waiting for her to continue.
It seemed that Yan Hua had a lot of questions. Ning Chun pieced together what she could remember, prepared her emotions, and tried to speak as completely as possible. “She and I were classmates in college. Well, our families are very close. She was very popular at school, a campus belle. You know how people are.”
“So she was your first love,” Yan Hua concluded from a bystander’s perspective.
“More like a secret crush. We were never together.” Ning Chun frowned, correcting her.
Just then, she suddenly felt a little uncomfortable in her heart.
Yan Hua’s expression was a mix of disbelief and amusement. She said with interest, “It seems you still have some regrets.”
“It’s not regret. It’s more like a memory loss.” Ning Chun pointed to her right ear and showed it to her. “I feel like the doctor gave me too much anesthesia. I can’t remember a lot of things, especially right after I woke up. Everyone looked blurry.”
The topic shifted to Ning Chun’s ears, and Yan Hua couldn’t help but worry. “Do you want to get it checked again when we go to the hospital?”
“I think so.” Ning Chun nodded vigorously.
Together, they bought a few comfortable everyday outfits for Qingqing. Ning Chun also picked out many daily necessities.
“Isn’t this too much? She doesn’t need all of this right now,” Yan Hua said, looking at the shopping cart that was almost overflowing. She wanted to take some things out.
“She’ll need them sooner or later. We can just take them home for now.” Ning Chun also picked out a cute pink stuffed animal. “Oh, right, let’s arrange a sunlit room for Qingqing. We can decorate it now so we’re not in a hurry when she’s discharged.”
Yan Hua’s hands, which were holding the items, paused slightly. Ning Chun wanted her sister to live with them. She had been worried about this and hadn’t figured out how to bring it up, but Ning Chun had just suggested it directly.
She didn’t show any reluctance, and even seemed to think that’s how it should be.
She was so considerate that it was impossible for Yan Hua to be suspicious from her fixed perspective.
A hand waved in front of her eyes. “Why are you spacing out? Let’s go pay.”
They didn’t have to wait long at the hospital before the doctor came to check on them. He said the patient was recovering well and would wake up in a couple of days. He told them to pay close attention and take good care of her.
Yan Hua was very happy to hear the doctor’s prognosis. After all, her sister was the only family she had left in the world. If something happened to her sister, she truly couldn’t accept it.
After the doctor left, Ning Chun gently patted Yan Hua’s back with her hand, comforting her in this way.
Her phone suddenly received a call from Ning Qing.
Why was she calling at this time? She chose to answer.
“Do you want to join my side?” Ning Qing’s calm voice came from the phone.
“What are you doing? Starting a war?” Ning Chun didn’t understand, but she listened carefully.
“Our Chairman just returned from abroad. It seems she’s determined to get that overseas investment. Before she’s even back, she’s already taken several projects away from me. I’m guessing she’ll give those projects to you. When she does, don’t refuse. If she gives them to you, just take them. I don’t feel comfortable letting those projects fall into someone else’s hands.”
Ning Chun was completely bewildered. She didn’t understand anything about business. It was like a huge hot potato. “How is that possible? She’s not afraid I’ll mess it up?”
“Well, what do you suggest? Why don’t you find a way to win over Song Xiaoran? The market problem will be solved, and your hot potato will naturally be gone.” Ning Qing chuckled softly. “You two had such a big fight back then, and the first thing she does when she comes back is try to win you back. It’s ridiculous.”
Ning Chun knew the difference in power between a hot potato and a hot bomb.
“Impossible. She doesn’t have a chance.” Ning Chun just felt that Song Xiaoran was a handful. She already had a family, yet she still wouldn’t give up.
“Also, I suggest you plan your assets in advance so you’re not caught off guard.”
“What do you mean?”
“Keep some cash on hand in case your cards get frozen and you don’t even know it. Then I’d have to bail you out.” Ning Qing’s tone was casual, as if she was used to this kind of operation.
“It can’t be that bad.” Ning Chun still didn’t quite believe it. She had never earned money before and didn’t know how difficult it was.
But Ning Qing’s tone was very serious, as if she was determined to fight her family to the end.
Ning Chun also had a headache. She realized that now she not only had to contend with the unseen forces outside but also with her own family.
Life in a wealthy family wasn’t as comfortable as it seemed on the surface. When they needed something from you, they would find ways to force you to comply.
The other person’s silence and soft chuckle gave her the answer.
“Okay, I understand. Thank you for your hard work.”
“It’s not hard work. I just don’t want the projects I’ve worked so hard on to go to waste. If you don’t understand anything, feel free to ask me.” She had been running the company for a while, she loved the work, and she genuinely wanted to do a good job.
The call ended, and Ning Chun felt a strange sense of powerlessness.
“Ning Chun, you look terrible. Are you not feeling well?”
