The Scumbag Alpha's Redemption in a Sweet Romance - Chapter 25
Chapter 25
“Nothing. Let me borrow your phone.”
Yan Hua didn’t think twice and handed it to her.
Taking the phone, Ning Chun directly transferred five million to Yan Hua’s account, then conveniently deleted the banking information. She also specifically went to the cashier to top up Qingqing’s medical card with enough money to make the lady at the counter’s mouth drop open.
But when she was about to keep some for herself, a message popped up on her phone: “Hello, valued member, your account has been frozen. To unfreeze it, please bring your personal identification to XX Bank.”
That was fast.
Unfortunately, Ning Chun was not one of those rich second-generation kids who only knew how to spend money without a care. As soon as her source of income was cut off, she couldn’t sit still.
She obediently stayed home for several days without causing any trouble.
Until the Chairman notified her to come to a meeting on the top floor of the company.
In the spacious, business-style conference room, elders of all levels, dressed in formal attire, sat on either side of the Chairman. The atmosphere was serious. From the moment she entered to when she took her seat, countless pairs of eyes, both obvious and hidden, were on her.
Ning Chun listened to the entire internal meeting with a frown. In the end, under the suspicious gazes of everyone, she accepted two projects.
One was a large-scale tourism development project that Ning Qing had been in charge of, and the other was an enterprise acquisition in the pharmaceutical field.
No matter which one it was, Ning Chun couldn’t start working on it immediately.
After the meeting, Ning Chun was left alone. Ning Qing winked at her as she passed by. “I have faith in you.”
Ning Chun felt a bitter feeling in her heart, but she couldn’t say anything.
“Xiao Chun, you’ve been at the company for a while now. It’s time for you to get some experience. Don’t feel too much pressure. I’ll arrange for a capable assistant for you. Just be bold and do it.” The Chairman’s words put even more pressure on Ning Chun.
“Chairman, I can try the enterprise acquisition project, but the tourism development project has always been handled by Xiao Qing. Isn’t it a bit inappropriate to suddenly give it to me?”
The Chairman stood up from her seat, a little surprised. “You’ve grown up. You never used to say things like this. But Xiao Qing has been a bit disobedient lately. If you can persuade the Song family to cooperate with us, I can let her continue with this project.”
Ning Chun was silent, a lump forming in her chest.
“I’ll do my best.”
“Also, Xiaoran just returned to the country. In a couple of days, there will be a class reunion. I hope you can go.”
“I understand.”
From then on, Ning Chun’s life became a three-point routine, going back and forth between the company, home, and the hospital every day.
Yan Hua spent every day with Qingqing at the hospital, and the time they spent together was significantly reduced.
On the day of Ning Chun’s university class reunion, Yan Qingqing miraculously woke up.
At that time, Ning Chun was surrounded by a group of people.
Some were flattering her because of her status: “Ning Chun, you’ve changed so much. You’re even more beautiful than before.”
Others were intentionally gossiping: “This class reunion was organized by Song Xiaoran. I heard her family is doing extremely well abroad. Why did she invite Ning Chun? Everyone at school knew when they had that huge fight.”
Someone tried to smooth things over. “We’re all classmates. It’s not a bad thing to get together once in a while, especially since it’s been so long.”
Ning Chun, the person in question, didn’t care at all. She saw this reunion as a task to complete.
Ning Chun was bored. She ate a few pastries and drank some champagne.
Because of the Chairman’s request, she was dressed very formally today. She wore a fitted black dress that showed off her beautiful shoulders and neck, and a white camellia belt at her waist that made it look even more slender.
As soon as the star of the reunion appeared, many people gathered around her.
Ning Chun lazily propped her chin on her hand, watching those people chatting and laughing. Her long, narrow eyes were half-closed. She was a little drunk.
Her phone buzzed. It was Yan Hua calling.
As soon as she answered, a happy voice came through. “Ning Chun, Qingqing is awake! She’s having some stress reactions, but the doctor said we can take her home to recover. A change of scenery would be better for her.”
“That’s great! Have the butler prepare everything in advance. Just tell me whatever you need.”
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end, and her tone became a little slow. “Can you come pick us up?”
Ning Chun looked at the empty glass on the table and belatedly realized she had drunk so much. “I’ll have the driver from home pick you up. I’ve had some alcohol, so it’s not convenient for me to drive.”
“Okay.” Yan Hua was a little disappointed, but she didn’t push it. “Then when will you be back?”
“I don’t know.” Ning Chun said, using her drunkenness as an excuse. “It’s so boring here. I don’t know a lot of people.”
Yan Hua guessed that she was at a business gathering and said with a light smile, “What should we do? How about I come pick you up later?”
“That would be great!” Ning Chun agreed immediately. She would rather be with Yan Hua than with a bunch of strangers.
After hanging up, Song Xiaoran walked over to her with a glass of wine. She attracted a lot of attention along the way. After all, everyone at university had thought they would end up together, and they were never short on gossip.
“Xiao Chun, I’m glad you could make it.” Song Xiaoran’s movements were very polite. She sat down an arm’s length away from Ning Chun, not overstepping any boundaries.
“This is a class reunion. Of course, I’d come.” The subtext was that she didn’t come because of her.
Song Xiaoran lowered her eyes, her tone sincere. “I know Auntie Ning is putting pressure on you. We had some misunderstandings in the past, and you probably don’t want to hear my explanation right now. How about we start over as friends and not talk about the past?”
Ning Chun didn’t respond. She just watched Song Xiaoran place a very beautiful, enticing cocktail in front of her.
Song Xiaoran’s eyes suddenly welled up. “We’ve known each other for so long. I really want to be your friend.”
Feeling her sincerity, Ning Chun picked up the glass and drank it all in one gulp.
Seeing her drink the wine, Song Xiaoran blinked. “Speaking of which, don’t you think Yan Hua’s eyes look a little like mine? Did you marry her because she reminds you of me?”
There was still a bitter and sweet aftertaste of the cocktail in her mouth. Ning Chun propped her face on her hand and looked at Song Xiaoran’s eyes. Her delicate eye makeup made her eyes look very bright.
She shook her head. “Yan Hua’s pupils are hazel, and yours are black. They don’t look alike at all. And when she looks at me, her emotions are very subtle. She rarely smiles at me, but when she does, she’s very beautiful.”
“You don’t look alike at all.” After drinking the cocktail, Ning Chun felt very dizzy, but she could still talk, and her words were quite clear.
Song Xiaoran wouldn’t give up. Now that the truth serum was working, she would ask all the questions she wanted to ask. She said, “Do you still love Song Xiaoran?”
Ning Chun’s mind was in a mess, but with that question, countless images flashed in her mind. There was a beautiful girl standing under a cherry blossom tree, waving for her to hurry up.
The image was beautiful, but Ning Chun didn’t feel any emotion. “No, I don’t.”
Song Xiaoran wiped the tears from her face, filled with regret. But she couldn’t bear to watch the person she loved be with someone else. Even if it meant humiliating herself, she stubbornly wanted an answer.
After she composed herself and prepared psychologically, she was ready to ask the last question.
Ning Chun’s phone rang, but she was too drunk. She tried to answer several times but couldn’t get it to connect. When she finally answered, the phone fell into the gap in the sofa.
Her patience was exhausted. Ning Chun decided to give up. She had a terrible headache.
Yan Hua on the other end of the phone was about to speak, but then she heard someone ask, “Do you like Yan Hua?”
Someone was asking Ning Chun a question, and it was about herself.
Yan Hua waited quietly, wanting to know how Ning Chun would answer.
But the effect of the truth serum was limited. Ning Chun’s physical condition was extraordinary, and the effect wore off before she could answer the question.
She sobered up for a moment, vaguely feeling that she was being led by someone. Yan Hua was very important to her, almost like a weakness. She absolutely couldn’t let anyone hurt her.
Only by making others believe she didn’t care would she not attract attention.
The answer that was about to come out instantly changed. “No, I don’t.”
A simple answer, but it caused a thousand ripples in everyone’s hearts.
Yan Hua’s mind went blank for a moment. She couldn’t describe her emotions, but she just didn’t want to go pick her up anymore.
Song Xiaoran felt a little relieved, but she didn’t show it. She knew it. How could someone as picky as Ning Chun suddenly fall in love with someone else?
She thought the truth serum was still working and asked, “Ning Chun, who do you like then?”
Ning Chun thought about this question very seriously before answering. “I like money.”
Especially after thinking about her frozen bank cards, Ning Chun almost cried. There was a restaurant she had wanted to go to for a long time. Because she had no money, she couldn’t go in every time she passed by.
She had even started looking at the calendar, calculating the date of her next paycheck.
Song Xiaoran was also surprised by this simple and unpretentious answer.
“My head hurts so much. I’m going to leave now.” Ning Chun finally picked up her phone and stumbled toward the exit. Song Xiaoran offered to drive her, but she refused.
After walking for a while in her high heels, Ning Chun belatedly realized that no one was there to pick her up. The driver who had brought her belonged to the Chairman and had left a long time ago.
She stood on the side of the road, shivering in the cold wind, ready to call a car. She looked at her balance and saw a big, fat number: 0.00.
Life was hard. Ning Chun sighed.
Thinking of Yan Hua’s offer to pick her up, she made a call. The alcohol was getting to her, and Ning Chun’s words were slurred. “Yan Hua, why aren’t you here yet? It’s so cold out here.”
“Miss, it’s me.” The butler’s voice came from the phone. “Miss Yan went upstairs to take care of her sister. She said you might call her, so she asked me to answer.”
It was just one phone call. Did she really need someone to answer for her?
Ning Chun looked up at the sky. The night wind was cold and gave her goosebumps on her arms.
“Okay, please come get me. It’s so cold here.” She squatted on the side of the road, hugging her arms, and deeply regretted not bringing a jacket.
She was truly very drunk. Both of her cheeks looked like she had applied too much blush. When the driver picked her up, Ning Chun felt that her life was a bitter one.
Not only did Yan Hua not come to pick her up, but the weather was also so cold.
She finally got home and was about to go to bed to rest, but Yan Hua wouldn’t let her. She held a finger against her waist and pushed her away. “You smell strongly of alcohol. Go wash up first.”
Ning Chun couldn’t stand straight and directly hugged her waist, burying her head in her neck. It felt soft and comfortable, and she even rubbed her head against her.
“I’m so tired. I don’t want to move.”
Her soft long hair had already come undone. Yan Hua raised her hand and held the ends of her hair, feeling the cool, smooth sensation.
Was she acting spoiled? This was a rare side of her.
Yan Hua had originally wanted to push her away, but Ning Chun had truly had a long day. Her heart softened, and she wrapped her arms around her, leading her toward the bathroom.
If she didn’t take a shower, she wouldn’t be able to sleep in bed tonight.
Fortunately, even though she wasn’t fully conscious, she was very obedient, doing whatever she was told.
Yan Hua suddenly had a wicked thought. She placed her cool hand on Ning Chun’s hot face. The comforting sensation from the temperature difference made Ning Chun feel very relaxed.
She couldn’t help but lean into the touch.
