The Scumbag Alpha's Redemption in a Sweet Romance - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
“I have a way to help you convince Auntie, but I have one condition,” Kan Yu said with a mischievous smile, a clear sign that it wasn’t a good thing.
The family hurdle was clearly difficult to overcome, but she couldn’t let Yan Hua leave; she had to keep her close. Ning Chun weighed the options and nodded in agreement.
After sending off Kan Yu, she entered the hospital room and saw that Yan Hua was awake, lying in bed staring at the ceiling. The flush on her face had faded, and she looked like a pristine doll. Her eyes were clear, and her long, seaweed-like hair was fanned out beside her.
“Are you hungry? It’s past mealtime. Do you want to eat something?” After all the commotion, Ning Chun was hungry herself.
But Yan Hua just sneered weakly, “Ning Chun, don’t pretend to be nice in front of me. I won’t appreciate it.”
Ning Chun sighed inwardly. It didn’t matter if she appreciated it, as long as she didn’t end up dead. The female protagonist was indeed a female protagonist. Even though she was still in recovery and not at her best, every frown and every movement of her brows had a touch of stunning beauty.
After spending these few days with her, Yan Hua felt there was something strange about Ning Chun. She was different from what the media reported.
“Don’t think that just because you saved me, I’ll be grateful to you. If you hadn’t brought me there, I wouldn’t have been drugged.” Her voice grew weaker and weaker until she realized she had no ground to stand on.
Ning Chun didn’t expose her. “It doesn’t matter what you think. Your sister’s situation is very tricky. You need to get better soon.”
Upon hearing that, Yan Hua’s mood sank. She had clearly seen… but there was nothing she could do.
“Ning Chun, why are you doing this to me?”
Her words were ambiguous. Doing what? Good or bad?
In this situation, Yan Hua was the most hurt. She hadn’t found her sister, and she had suffered greatly herself. Ning Chun wanted to say something comforting, but her words came out wrong. “Are you telling me how to do things?”
The fragile part of her heart vanished. Yan Hua expressionlessly turned her gaze away. She was still the same, doing whatever she wanted without considering the consequences. All her unusual actions were just for the sake of her reputation as an Alpha. She was still as annoying as ever.
The pre-ordered nutritious meal was delivered. Ning Chun placed the food tray on the table and said, “Eat your meal and recover quickly. I don’t want to carry you again. You’re as heavy as a pig.”
If there was one topic you could never mention in this world, it was weight. Yan Hua was clearly infuriated. She had practiced dance since she was a child and strictly controlled her weight. Besides the places where she was supposed to have curves, she had no excess fat. How dare Ning Chun call her fat?
A ladle of chili oil was poured on a fire that hadn’t gone out yet. Yan Hua exploded. She pointed at the door and said coldly, “Get out! I don’t want to see you.”
Ning Chun never let herself lose an argument. Her mouth ran wild. “I don’t want to see you either! You’re not as pretty as the bar owner!”
“Get out!”
Ning Chun quickly grabbed Yan Hua’s phone, swiftly typed in her own number, and tossed it back to her. “Call me when you’re about to die, and I’ll come collect your corpse.”
With that, Ning Chun walked out of the room, leaving Yan Hua with an angry expression.
As soon as she was out the door, she took several deep breaths, even having the audacity to ask the system if her acting was on point.
System: …Host, what you said was very malicious, and you overacted a bit.
Ning Chun just waved her hand. “Whatever. It doesn’t matter, anyway. The female protagonist won’t like me.”
However, she was also responsible for what happened to Yan Hua. She had given such clear instructions. Unless it was an emergency, Yan Hua wouldn’t have left the car on her own. So what kind of “bait” lured Yan Hua away from the safe zone? The person who set the trap knew Yan Hua well. They made no unnecessary moves, simply drugged her to delay them from finding her sister.
Ning Chun stayed at the hospital with Yan Hua for three days, getting every possible check-up done. She even had the doctor look at the results to confirm there were no issues before she checked them out.
On the day of discharge, Kan Yu came to see them off. While Ning Chun handled the discharge paperwork, Kan Yu helped Yan Hua pack their things.
Kan Yu pulled a white undershirt from the small sofa. It was clearly Ning Chun’s, and, as luck would have it, there was a red hickey on the chest area. Over the past few days, Ning Chun hadn’t dared to leave Yan Hua alone at the hospital, afraid for her safety. She had asked the butler to bring over some clothes, and the dirty ones hadn’t been picked up yet.
Kan Yu’s eyes darted, and she had a mischievous idea. She held up the hickey for Yan Hua to see. “Sister-in-law, what brand of lipstick is this? It’s pretty.”
Yan Hua took it and looked at it for a long time. Her expression grew stranger and stranger. The color was very familiar, as if she had seen it somewhere before. A face flashed in her mind. It was the bar owner. The lipstick on her lips was that exact color when Ning Chun blew the smoke ring at her.
How shameless.
Kan Yu blinked. Did I say something wrong? She reached out to take the shirt, but she couldn’t pull it away. The beautiful sister-in-law with the gentle eyes moved her red lips and said, “The color of hell.”
Kan Yu: “…”
She really didn’t do it on purpose. She had wanted to bring her cousin and sister-in-law closer together, but it seemed she had made things worse.
Just then, Ning Chun returned after finishing the paperwork. She leaned lazily against the door. “Are you two done yet? I’m waiting to go home.”
Yan Hua angrily threw the dirty shirt away. “You pack it yourself, Kan Yu. Let’s go.”
What is going on?
Ning Chun was completely lost. Kan Yu just squeezed her eyes and shrugged. She didn’t know either. She could only tell her cousin to fend for herself.
Ning Chun helplessly carried the bags and bags of stuff to the parking lot, then dutifully played chauffeur for Yan Hua. She could only tell herself that a tough and resilient female protagonist would have a temper.
“Cousin, I’ve sent you the things you wanted, and I’ve taken care of the matter for you. Don’t forget to write my review report,” Kan Yu said before she left, pulling Ning Chun into a corner to remind her repeatedly. This review report was her condition. Ning Chun didn’t think much of it. It was just a few new products her company was developing. It would be easy.
The Rolls-Royce drove out of the underground parking lot. The voice of a machine rang out. “Vehicle Huajing A-989898 is about to exit. Total fee is 180 yuan. Please scan to pay.”
Ning Chun scanned and paid. As the car drove out of the parking lot and before it had gone far, she heard Yan Hua ask, “What’s wrong with your neck?”
If she hadn’t brought it up, Ning Chun would have forgotten. She really bit hard. She touched the bite mark on her neck and said sarcastically, “Nothing. A dog bit me.”
“What do you mean by that?” Yan Hua asked. Can’t you just talk normally? I was just showing concern.
Ning Chun thought she was getting angry from embarrassment. “I didn’t mention your name. You just admitted it yourself.”
“I… I bit you?” A classic question. Yan Hua tried to remember. It seemed to have happened. Her mind was a mess at the time. She had smelled something delicious and wanted to hug it. Then someone abruptly grabbed her waist. Her instincts took over, and with a rush of emotion, she couldn’t hold back and bit down.
Yan Hua had a secret that no one knew. She had a severe case of skin hunger. Because of her father’s absence in her childhood, her mother focused most of her energy on her weaker sister. She had lost the love that should have been hers, which led to this embarrassing condition. Whenever she had an episode, she would take a shower to ease the feeling.
If she wasn’t mistaken, it wasn’t just the drug that day. Her skin hunger had acted up, and Ning Chun’s touch had given her a strange sense of pleasure.
Why her, of all people?
“I’m sorry,” Yan Hua said in a low voice, taking out the leftover healing patches from her bag. She tore open the package and took one out. Ning Chun seemed used to it, turning her head and exposing her neck for her to put the patch on.
Yan Hua bit her lip as she slowly applied the patch. When she pulled her hand away, her pinky finger brushed against the side of Ning Chun’s neck, and that strange sense of pleasure appeared again. She could almost confirm it. Ning Chun was the person who could alleviate her skin hunger.
Yan Hua swallowed. “Are you uncomfortable anywhere?”
Ning Chun turned the steering wheel, wiggling her neck. “No.”
But Yan Hua was a little uncomfortable. Especially after she learned that Ning Chun could relieve her skin hunger, she couldn’t help but want to look at her, touch her, and hug her. She even wanted to pounce on her. If—and she was saying if—Ning Chun could mark her, the feeling would be incredibly exhilarating.
The change in her body was so sudden. She hadn’t felt this way before, but now she was extremely sensitive.
As they arrived at the house, Ning Chun felt something was off. A luxury car was parked outside the yard. It was a sign of trouble. The butler was the first to greet them. His face was beaming. “Miss, the madam is here. She even brought a lot of gifts and said she wanted to see Miss Yan.”
What is going on? What kind of spell did Kan Yu cast to make her change so much? Just a few days ago, she was cursing and a hundred percent against the marriage.
The butler saw Ning Chun’s confusion and quietly explained, “The madam found several old Daoist masters to read your and Miss Yan’s birth charts. They all said it was a great match for a prosperous family, and that Miss Yan’s chart is especially good for you. I finally understand why you insisted on marrying her.”
Ah, the end of science is metaphysics. How unlucky was Ning Chun that her own mother would believe such things?
“Of course, the madam also said that Miss Yan’s own background is excellent and she’s more than enough for you,” the butler added. Ning Chun shot him a cold look, silently telling him not to compare them.
In the living room, Ning Chun saw her elegant and noble mother. She greeted her as politely as possible, but her mother just put down her coffee cup and replied with a cold “hmm.”
When Yan Hua came in, however, Ms. Xu actively looked up. “So you’re Yan Hua. You’re quite good-looking.” Her words sounded like a cross-examination. “I’ve looked into your family background. It turns out you’re the granddaughter of Yan Ziqing.”
Yan Ziqing was a famous master of traditional Chinese painting who gained fame in his youth and died young. His works were highly sought after, and Ms. Xu was one of his fans. No wonder she suddenly changed her tune about Yan Hua.
“I heard your differentiation rank is S.” That rank was one of the rarest in all of Huajing. It was a pity that her family had fallen. No one could protect her.
Ms. Xu’s critical eyes moved between Yan Hua and Ning Chun. Finally, as if she had made up her mind, she agreed to their marriage. Ms. Xu loved to put on airs in front of strangers, but once she became familiar with someone, she would show her more girlish side.
Especially when Yan Hua mentioned that she had a unique piece of Yan Ziqing’s work that she could give to Ms. Xu, their relationship immediately took a step forward. Ning Chun watched the change in atmosphere and knew that her mother must be very spoiled at home. She still hadn’t met the real head of the household, Chairman Ning, and she wondered what she was like.
They were all having a pleasant conversation, which eventually veered into the topic of having children. On the left, Yan Hua and Ms. Xu chatted warmly, while on the right, Ning Chun was bored, tossing an orange up and down.
“Hua Hua, you don’t have to worry about the compatibility with Ning Chun. With how advanced technology is now, and how healthy you are, you’ll definitely be able to have a child.”
Thump. The orange hit the carpet with a soft thud. What does she mean by that? Is she subtly implying that Ning Chun is useless? Or is Ms. Xu, as a mother-in-law, encouraging her new daughter-in-law to cheat on her own daughter?
As they talked, Ms. Xu took them to a top-tier testing facility. Still not giving up, she insisted they do another compatibility test and wait for the results on the spot. She said that all the professionals in this facility were top-level talents from prestigious universities at home and abroad. Half of them were PhD students from the country’s number one university, Hua University. The results from a place like this would be authoritative. As for the previous one, something must have gone wrong.
Yan Hua and Ning Chun sat by the floor-to-ceiling windows on the eighteenth floor, watching Ms. Xu ask the staff in a very professional manner about ways to compensate for low compatibility. She even had her assistant write down every word. They were all busy working.
“That day, I got out of the car because I saw Qingqing,” Yan Hua said, finally telling Ning Chun the reason after so many days.
