The Scumbag Alpha's Redemption in a Sweet Romance - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
“Hmm.” Ning Chun leaned back in her chair, a slight headache. Her narrow eyes were half-closed, and she looked a little listless. She hadn’t rested well these past few days, especially after realizing that conscious manipulation had no effect on Yan Hua. She had secretly tried it on her many times, but there was no reaction at all. However, this ability still worked on everyone else.
This meant the problem wasn’t with her, but with Yan Hua herself. There was something special about her, but the specific conditions weren’t clear. This meant Yan Hua would be the biggest variable by her side.
Ning Chun had originally planned to get a good night’s sleep after coming back, but now she was here, waiting for the damn compatibility results.
“Aren’t you surprised at all?” Yan Hua looked at her quietly, as if trying to see what else was hidden beneath her expression.
Ning Chun just rubbed her temples. “I guessed as much. Only the right bait can catch the desired fish. Is there anything unusual about your sister? I can’t understand why an illegal medical organization would want to kidnap a sick person.”
Yan Hua’s hand, holding her bag, tightened unconsciously. She bit her lower lip and didn’t answer. Ning Chun glanced at her and didn’t press for an answer. “It has nothing to do with me. It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it. My job is just to save her.”
A lab technician came out of the testing room with a stack of papers and announced the result with great excitement: 20%!
Ning Chun frowned. Did I hear that right? They were at 5% three days ago. Had the data taken a rocket ship or an arithmetic progression? The change was huge.
The technician enthusiastically explained the report to Ms. Xu, while also pushing several outrageously expensive packages—all customized plans to increase compatibility.
Ning Chun was speechless. The only thing she could see in the excited eyes of the PhD technician was one sentence: My graduation thesis is saved!
She and Yan Hua had so many things to do. They didn’t have the time to be someone else’s thesis data. Ms. Xu, on the other hand, was overjoyed. She immediately pulled out her phone and called her friends to announce the good news. If she remembered correctly, the passing grade was 60%. Ms. Xu was this happy at 20%. What would happen if it reached 60%?
Because Yan Hua and Ning Chun’s situation was so rare, most people would have separated and found new partners. They, however, were able to break through genetic barriers and increase their compatibility. In the eyes of the relevant professionals, this was a miracle.
After endless check-ups and dozens of forms filled out, Ning Chun and Yan Hua finally returned home. Just as Ning Chun took off her clothes to take a shower, a knock came at the door. Ning Chun had to put on a robe to answer it.
Outside, Yan Hua stood awkwardly on the marble floor, wearing only a white camisole and no shoes. Her translucent skin was eye-catching in the light. Her small face wore an innocent expression, and her wet eyes blinked repeatedly.
“What’s wrong?” Ning Chun leaned against the door frame, not letting her in. She was taller than Yan Hua. From behind, it looked as if she was enveloping her in a hug.
Yan Hua curled her toes, looking a little helpless. “The butler said my room faces the sun, so he’s turning it into a flower room. He told me to come and… stay with you for a while.” This was the most refined version of her words; the original was much more blatant and ambiguous.
“Aren’t there flower rooms upstairs? And there are so many empty rooms.”
Yan Hua hugged her chilled arms, not answering. Her eyes widened slightly, and she looked at Ning Chun pitifully.
Ning Chun couldn’t stand that look. Her heart softened instantly. She didn’t have to guess to know that this was Ms. Xu’s doing, a not-so-subtle way of forcing them to live together.
The villa was heated, but the floor was still cold. Ning Chun couldn’t bear it and moved aside to let her in. She pointed inside. “The walk-in closet is over there. Go find some shoes to put on. I’m going to take a shower first.”
Inside the bathroom, with the shower head running, Ning Chun immediately called the system to ask about the compatibility.
System: As the host adapts to this world, your body’s vitals will improve, and compatibility will also be affected.
“So, the initial 5% was just the starting data, not the final data for me and Yan Hua. The compatibility score can still increase.”
System: Yes.
Ning Chun thought for a moment. “Help me check what my compatibility with Yan Hua can reach once I’ve fully adapted to the rules.”
System: Loading data… Based on genetic testing, the host’s compatibility with Yan Hua can reach a maximum of 100%, surpassing 99% of the compatibility data in the gene pool.
That high! No. She couldn’t lose focus. She had to remember that her goal was to complete the mission and change the tragic ending. The most important thing was to dissolve Yan Hua’s hatred for her and avoid all the melodramatic, angsty plots. As for genetic compatibility and having children, that was out of the question.
When she came out of the shower, Yan Hua was already sitting on the edge of the bed waiting for her, clearly with something to say.
“I might have to stay in your room for a while.” Although it wasn’t her intention, it did inconvenience Ning Chun.
“Mm. This bed is too soft anyway. It makes my back hurt. You can have the bed.” Her tone was arrogant, like she was doing a favor, but she was spineless, taking a plush blanket to the sofa by the floor-to-ceiling window. The area was spacious and decorated with plants. It was more than enough for her to sleep.
Ning Chun lay on her side on the sofa, half her body facing the window. The view was of an artificial lake. The scenery was beautiful, but she was in no mood to appreciate it. Instead, she took out her phone and opened a black app. On the completely black screen, a dense network of lines represented the dynamic map of Huajing. In the upper-left corner, a red dot was blinking, moving rapidly in a southwestern direction.
Ning Chun lay there at ease. She had often slept curled up like this before. So when Yan Hua arrived, Ning Chun didn’t feel any sense of a territorial invasion. Yan Hua also looked too thin, almost like she was malnourished. Her arms were so thin, with no visible muscle. They looked like they would snap if you squeezed them. Her legs were just as thin, looking scrawny. Ning Chun could take on ten of her at once.
Yan Hua sat on the bed for a while. At this moment, Ning Chun was truly not interested in her, just entertaining herself with her phone. Yan Hua clenched the soft down comforter with her delicate fingers, got up, and went to the bathroom.
The bathroom was large, and the items on the sink were not particularly messy. Ning Chun’s skincare products were just casually laid out. Yan Hua turned on the shower and began washing herself. When she was done, she realized there were no clean towels.
The one hanging on the wall was visibly damp. It was the one Ning Chun had used, and it still carried her body heat. Yan Hua touched it with her hand. It was indeed very wet. She still didn’t know what Ning Chun’s pheromones smelled like. Since they had been together, Ning Chun seemed to be at odds with her, but she hadn’t caused any real harm.
Thinking of this, Yan Hua pulled the towel down and it fell into the sink, becoming completely soaked.
While Yan Hua was in the shower, Ning Chun found a very beautifully packaged box in the corner of the room. It had a note on it: “A little gift for my dear cousin and sister-in-law~” Just looking at the note, she knew it was from Kan Yu.
She found a small knife to open the package. As she cut through the tape, she heard a voice from the bathroom. “Ning Chun, I don’t have any clean clothes or a towel. Can you get one for me?” The call, thick with steam, came out through the crack in the door, her voice unusually hoarse.
“Okay, one moment.” Ning Chun didn’t think much of it. She went to the walk-in closet to find a new silk nightgown and a thin velvet blanket. While getting the clothes, she also glanced at the closet. There were not many new clothes, and they were all everyday styles. The flashy colors were all gone. The butler was indeed very reliable.
The bathroom door was ajar. Through the frosted glass, she could only vaguely see a slender figure. Yan Hua was standing just behind the door.
Ning Chun didn’t think twice and passed the items through the gap. A hand, with a pinkish tint, quickly took the clothes, and the door closed immediately.
Before Ning Chun could leave, she heard a scream from inside the room.
“What’s wrong?” Ning Chun immediately went to the door and knocked. “Yan Hua, are you okay?”
“I… I’m fine.”
About two minutes later, Yan Hua opened the door. Perhaps she had changed too quickly. A lot of her neck and arms were exposed and were a faint pink color, like cherry blossoms. In her outstretched left hand, there was a bloody wound on her palm. Her other hand held a small knife that had mysteriously appeared. It was the same knife that Ning Chun had used to open the package.
It was clear how the wound had gotten there. Ning Chun’s lips pursed in embarrassment. She had Yan Hua sit on the bed and went to get the first-aid kit. Fortunately, all the disinfecting agents were there. Ning Chun cleaned the wound for her and then put a healing patch on it.
“Sorry, the knife must have gotten mixed up with the clothes by accident.”
Yan Hua didn’t respond. All her attention was on the hand Ning Chun was holding. Ning Chun’s movements were so gentle, yet they felt like a hook with an addiction, constantly scratching at Yan Hua’s five senses.
After the wound was bandaged, Yan Hua’s breathing became heavy. Even her ears and the back of her neck were flushed. What was worse was that she wasn’t in her estrus cycle, but she almost couldn’t control her pheromones.
Ning Chun was holding her hand and also noticed something was off. Bandaging a wound shouldn’t make a person this red. She asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Are you having an allergic reaction?”
Yan Hua pulled her hand away, turned her head to not look at her, and said in a hoarse voice, “I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.”
“Oh.” Ning Chun always respected other people’s requests. She went back to the sofa and didn’t bother her anymore. A sense of nameless frustration welled up in Yan Hua’s chest. She hugged the soft comforter, hiding most of her face in it, but her eyes were stubbornly fixed on Ning Chun’s back. Only when that tempting body heat finally cooled down did Yan Hua lie in bed, also facing away from Ning Chun.
The air in the room became overly quiet, so quiet that if you held your breath, you could hear the other person’s breathing.
Ning Chun suddenly sat up on the sofa, looking at the message Kan Yu had sent her, a huge question mark slowly forming over her head.
Kan Yu: [Dear cousin, does your sister-in-law like the little toys? Be gentle, and don’t hurt her, okay~]
Ning Chun’s eyes fell on the not-yet-fully-opened box, which was not far from Yan Hua. What was even more horrifying was the subtle position of the box. If Yan Hua opened her eyes, she would see everything.
