The Scumbag Alpha's Redemption in a Sweet Romance - Chapter 9
Chapter 9
At this moment, Ning Chun was driving a sleek black Jeep, weaving through traffic. The window was half-open, and a gentle breeze blew her long hair, creating a picture of tranquil serenity. It would have been perfect if it weren’t for the three or four SUVs in relentless pursuit.
The cars behind her were driving recklessly, ignoring all other vehicles on the road. Ning Chun raised her eyebrows in the rearview mirror, finally turning the steering wheel and swerving into a side street with less traffic.
It took Ning Chun nearly two hours to completely shake them off. But before she could even catch her breath, a roadblock appeared at the end of the road. The only path forward had already been set up with a blockade.
The black Jeep was forced to stop. Ning Chun honked the horn vigorously and got out, slamming the car door shut. I just went to their nest once. Do they have to be this relentless? So petty.
There were over a dozen people, all with strong builds and fierce expressions. There were even two children, no older than ten, who looked intimidating.
The leader of the thugs was wearing a black leather jacket, the latest season’s style from a high-end luxury brand. It seemed they were making a lot of money from their shady drugs and living a very comfortable life.
“Hey, I don’t care who you are. Hand over what you took,” the thug leader said, standing on an old metal barrel, looking down at Ning Chun.
Ning Chun let out a laugh and spread her hands helplessly. “Don’t be so stingy. We’re all in the same business. I finally got to visit your place, so is it really too much to take some souvenirs?”
The thug leader was clearly infuriated and threatened, “Stop playing games. You can either leave the drugs and I’ll break one of your legs, or you can leave your life with me!”
“Shhh, mind your language.” Ning Chun stretched her arms and gestured with her chin toward the two children, smiling. “There are kids here. Don’t be a bad influence.”
Ning Chun’s dismissive attitude completely enraged the thug leader. “All of you, get her! I’m taking her life today!”
At his command, over a dozen people surrounded Ning Chun. Perfect. She had just finished stretching her muscles. It had been a long time since she had a fight, so she wondered if she was rusty.
She took her stance, threw a side kick, spun around, and delivered a powerful kick. For anyone who got too close, Ning Chun added a combination of iron fists and elbow strikes as a bonus.
Soon, all dozen people were lying on the ground. Ning Chun blew on a small cut on her knuckle. She didn’t know whose non-mainstream chain had scraped her hand. It stung.
Ning Chun shook her hand nonchalantly and walked toward the thug leader. The leader was finally terrified, shocked at Ning Chun’s strength.
“Now, it’s my turn to reason with you,” Ning Chun said, her arms crossed over her chest, a big smile on her face. “I know you have people above you, and you’ll be responsible for the missing drugs. I’ll give you some money to cover the cost of those drugs.” Ning Chun slipped the pre-prepared bank card into his jacket pocket.
“But those drugs aren’t—”
“Shhh!” Ning Chun placed her pale finger on her slightly pink lips and gave a brilliant smile. “If you don’t say anything and I don’t say anything, who will know? I trust you can keep your people quiet.”
The transaction was ultimately forced by Ning Chun.
The black Jeep hit the road again. Ning Chun set her GPS for the city center. It was exactly noon. The sun was shining brightly, the air was fresh, and life was simply too pleasant. It was so pleasant that Ning Chun began to fantasize about the wonderful moment she would complete her mission and have a hundred billion yuan to spend as she pleased.
She glanced at the silver safe on the passenger seat and called Kan Yu. “Hey, where are you? Stop eating hospital cafeteria food. Come out. I’ll treat you to a big meal.” Without waiting for a response, Ning Chun hung up.
The restaurant she chose was in a large mall not far from the hospital. Ning Chun had wanted to eat there for a long time. The menu was exquisite, especially the desserts. She wanted to try every single one. Ning Chun ordered a few simple dishes, and before she was finished, Kan Yu arrived.
She threw her bag directly on the table and sat down, her face tired. “Look at the menu. Order whatever you want,” Ning Chun said, pushing the menu toward her.
Kan Yu didn’t hold back and started ordering. “I want abalone with black truffle cream sauce, seared foie gras with pomegranate vinaigrette, and black truffle cream pasta. Oh, and open a bottle of this year’s French Beaujolais red wine.”
Ning Chun ordered a few more dishes, afraid it wouldn’t be enough. She didn’t stop her from drinking, only reminding her, “You have to go back to work later. Can you drink?”
“I’m so mad. I just went through a medical dispute this morning. If you don’t let me drink and vent, I think I’ll go crazy.” Kan Yu’s expression did look a little unwell, so Ning Chun didn’t ask any more questions.
The dishes were served, and two glasses of red wine were poured. Ning Chun pushed her own glass aside. “I’m driving. No drinking.”
“Tsk, stop faking it. You used to be a total party animal,” Kan Yu said, chewing her food and letting out her frustrations. “What do you want from me? Why did you suddenly invite me to dinner and bring a gift? Why is this so formal?” Kan Yu noticed a silver safe on the seat next to Ning Chun. She looked up.
Ning Chun put down her fork and sat up straight. “It’s not a gift. It’s to ask for your help.”
Kan Yu looked up at her, then down at the food on her plate. “Is it too late for me to throw up now?”
Ning Chun smiled. “It’s too late.”
Besides selling adult toys, Kan Yu’s company also had a research lab dedicated to pharmaceutical development. They didn’t produce drugs, they only patented them. It wasn’t until the two of them were at the entrance of the lab that Kan Yu was a little in disbelief. “Why don’t you do this at your own place? What secret are you hiding?”
Ning Chun motioned for her to enter the password to open the door. “It’s not a secret. It’s just something that can’t see the light of day.”
“Whoa, this is so exciting! You’re not involved in some black-market dealings, are you?” Kan Yu was astonished, chasing after her for an answer.
The password-protected door opened, and the two entered the lab. When the door was completely closed, Ning Chun said, “Something like that. I forcibly purchased some things and urgently need to identify their components. It’s not convenient at home, so I’m borrowing your space.”
Kan Yu was in a hurry to get back to work, so she didn’t stay long. She just told Ning Chun to call her if she needed anything and arranged for two assistants to help her.
Ning Chun stayed inside for a full seven hours. By the time she came out, it was already dark. Her phone had a few new messages. They were from someone named Ning Qing. One was a photo, and the main subject was clearly Yan Hua. She was wearing a jade-colored, form-fitting dress, with a smile on her lips and her eyes curved into crescents. She was sitting gently beside Ms. Xu, listening. It seemed they were getting along very well.
There were also two text messages: Sister, how could someone with such bad taste marry such a beautiful wife? (rolling eyes) (rolling eyes) (rolling eyes to the heavens)
Also, you’re always skipping work. If you don’t come to the office soon, I’ll give your position to Ning Lan. (speechless) (speechless)
Ning Chun now had a pretty good idea who this was: her own sister, the current CEO of the Ning Corporation, an exceptionally talented and powerful figure who dominated the business world and was the most promising successor in the eyes of the major shareholders.
Thirty minutes later, Ning Chun arrived at the restaurant where Yan Hua was. The moment she appeared, everyone’s expressions changed. Ms. Xu was surprised, Yan Hua was astonished, and Ning Qing looked disgusted.
“Why are you here?” Yan Hua couldn’t help but stand up and ask her.
Ning Chun pulled out a chair and sat down next to her. She took Yan Hua’s wrist to have her sit down and smiled. “It’s getting dark. I’m here to take you home. Did you have a good day?”
