- Chapter 24 - A Girl Like This Should Be Pampered and Spoiled...
A girl like her deserved to be cherished and pampered…
But hadn’t this person tacitly approved of the Qin Family’s abuse?
Why was she suddenly pretending to be a good person now?
And what unspeakable secret was she hiding?
Wen Jin’an lowered her gaze and gently tugged at Qin Yang’s sleeve, her eyes shimmering with tears, making her appear fragile and pitiful. “Wife-Husband, do you really have to do this? I saw how Parents…”
Her hesitant words tugged at the heartstrings.
Qin Yang cleared her throat, snapping out of her thoughts. Assuming Wen Jin’an was recalling painful memories, she took her hand and patted it reassuringly. “Don’t be afraid. I won’t let the Qin Family bully you again.”
With unwavering resolve, she turned to the Village Head. “I’m taking Jin’an away from the Qin Family.”
“If you’ve made up your mind…”
“Wait!” Qin Youcai suddenly burst back in, panting heavily. “I don’t agree! This is my family matter! What right do you have to decide?”
“While it is your family matter, your physical assault gives Qin Yang every right to report you to the County Magistrate’s Office. Since she came to me, as the Village Head, it’s my duty to uphold justice for her,” the Village Head replied, his gaze sweeping over Qin Youcai with undisguised disdain.
Qin Youcai was notorious for taking advantage of others, and his reputation was far from good. Hearing him speak so dismissively, as if he didn’t even see the Village Head as a person, was a stark contrast to Qin Yang’s respectful demeanor—like comparing heaven and earth.
If Qin Zhao hadn’t sought him out late at night, the Village Head wouldn’t have bothered with the Qin Family’s affairs. But since he was already involved, there was no reason to back down now.
Qin Youcai, however, visibly lost his composure at the mention of reporting to the authorities. The Village Head knew that brat might actually do it. For the sake of his pride, he stubbornly insisted, “That won’t do either. No one is leaving this house, no matter what.”
The Village Head glanced at Qin Youcai, his tone impatient. “Since you insist on this, it’s clear you don’t respect me either. I can’t meddle in your family’s affairs anymore.” He turned to Qin Yang and continued, “Tomorrow, I’ll write you a formal complaint. Take it to the County Magistrate’s Office and let the County Magistrate decide.”
The County Magistrate?
Qin Youcai’s legs went weak. If Qin Yong hadn’t caught him in time, he would have collapsed. As a farmer who rarely left the village, the thought of facing the County Magistrate…
Regaining his composure, Qin Youcai steadied himself with Qin Yong’s support and bowed deeply. “Uncle, please, this is just a family matter. Can’t we keep it out of the County Magistrate’s hands?”
“That depends on Qin Yang’s decision,” the Village Head said coldly. “My word doesn’t count.”
Qin Yang?
Qin Youcai gritted his teeth, anger simmering within him. But he knew he needed to pacify that brat first.
“Fourth Elder, we’re still family,” he said. “How can you bear to report your parents to the County Magistrate’s Office? It’s just a dog. Take it.”
Hmph.
Qin Yang glared at Qin Youcai. “That dog was originally mine,” she snapped. “I caught it and gave it to Jin’an. When did it become yours? Just because you snatched it from Jin’an’s hands doesn’t make it yours.”
“This…” Qin Youcai gritted his teeth. When did this brat become so difficult to handle?
Before he could retort, Liu Yue’e cut in, “What do you mean ‘Wen Jin’an’s’? Everything in this house belongs to the family. I decide who gets what.” Her eyes locked fiercely on Wen Jin’an.
Having learned from their previous encounter, Qin Yang quickly shielded Wen Jin’an behind her, fearing Liu Yue’e might attack again. Turning to Qin Youcai, she declared, “You’ve heard it yourself. Jin’an and I can’t stay in this house any longer. Whether you agree or not, we’re moving out tomorrow.”
“You…” Qin Youcai glanced at the Village Head, his bluster suddenly deflating. He turned to glare venomously at Liu Yue’e.
“More trouble than she’s worth,” Qin Youcai muttered. “How did I ever marry such a woman?”
“If you insist on moving out, fine,” Qin Youcai declared. “But you won’t take a single thing from this house.”
He was certain this would stop Qin Yang from leaving.
“Very well,” Qin Yang replied. “Jin’an and I won’t take anything.”
She had no interest in the Qin Family’s possessions. Her valuables were stored in her Space, and the silver was with Jin’an—they’d never suspect Jin’an had any money. That was the least of her worries.
“Let the Village Head witness this today,” Qin Yang said, turning to the Village Head without another glance at Qin Youcai. “From now on, we have no further ties.”
“You…” Qin Youcai gritted his teeth.
“Since that’s settled, Qin Yang will move out of the Qin Family tomorrow and establish her own household,” the Village Head sighed. “I’ll issue you a certificate tomorrow. Take it to the County Magistrate’s Office to register your household.”
“Thank you, Village Head,” Qin Yang said.
The Village Head surveyed the courtyard, shook his head, and said, “Now that this matter is resolved, let’s head back.”
“I’ll see you off,” Qin Yang offered.
The Village Head waved his hand. “No need. You should start packing.”
Qin Yang watched the others leave, finally breathing a sigh of relief. She was finally free from the Qin Family. She glanced down at the White Raccoon Dog in her arms, then turned to Wen Jin’an, her voice softening. “Let’s go inside and pack. We’ll leave first thing tomorrow morning.”
“Mm, whatever Wife-Husband decides is fine,” Wen Jin’an replied, still somewhat dazed. He hadn’t expected to leave the Qin Family so soon, but leaving was for the best. They could figure out the rest later.
With one arm cradling the White Raccoon Dog, Qin Yang gently supported Wen Jin’an’s injured wrist as they headed inside, completely ignoring the Qin Family.
“Jin’an, don’t worry,” Qin Yang said as she helped him sit on the edge of the bed. “We’ll find a place to stay tomorrow, and I already have a plan to earn money. I won’t let you go hungry with me.”
“Jin’an trusts Wife-Master,” Wen Jin’an replied, his brow furrowing slightly as he subtly studied Qin Yang. What exactly was this money-making plan she kept mentioning?
What could possibly be worth severing ties with the Qin Family? Was this her trump card for survival after leaving?
What could it be?
Wen Jin’an pressed his lips together. “Jin’an wants to help Wife-Husband share the burden. What exactly is this money-making plan you mentioned?”
“Hmm?” Qin Yang scratched her head, smiling. “If you want to help, you can. I’ll tell you once we’re settled in.”
Working together seemed like a good way to improve her relationship with the Female Lead.
Qin Yang’s mood brightened. “I’ll check if there’s anything else to pack. You play with the little one for a while,” she said, placing the White Raccoon Dog in Wen Jin’an’s lap. She stood up and scanned the room.
Seeing Qin Yang’s reluctance to explain, Wen Jin’an nodded, suppressing her displeasure. She bit her lip and persisted, “Jin’an just doesn’t want her Wife-Husband to work so hard.”
Qin Yang’s room was small and sparsely furnished. Even if she wanted to take something, there wasn’t a single decent item to be found. As she continued searching, she explained, “It’s not hard work. There’s nothing I can’t tell you, but we’re still in the Qin Family, aren’t we? I’m worried about eavesdroppers.”
This explanation made sense. Knowing the Qin Family’s nature, they would undoubtedly cause more trouble if they found out. Better to avoid unnecessary complications.
Wen Jin’an understood and lowered her gaze. “Then I’ll listen to my Wife-Husband.”
After all, they were moving out tomorrow. There was no need to rush. If Qin Yang could truly earn money, it would provide a better safety net for their escape.
Finally, Qin Yang found a few patched-up old clothes at the head of the bed. Judging by their appearance, they likely belonged to the Original Host. She decided to leave them behind. The Original Host had barely any clothes to begin with, and Wen Jin’an was even worse off, having arrived with only the patched-up garment on her back. All her subsequent changes of clothes had been leftovers from the Original Host.
This was for the best. They wouldn’t need to bring anything; they could simply buy new things as needed.
Qin Yang yawned, her gaze drifting to Wen Jin’an. Wen Jin’an’s eyes crinkled with a smile as she playfully pinched the little creature’s ear. In that moment, the girl’s pure, untainted innocence shone through—a beauty Qin Yang had never witnessed before.
“It doesn’t have a name yet. Why don’t you give it one?” Qin Yang said, clearing her throat and averting her gaze.
A girl like this deserved to be cherished and pampered.
What was that heartless author thinking? Not only did she make Jin’an suffer endless torment at the hands of the Qin Family, but after meeting her Destined Alpha, she had to endure some ridiculous, melodramatic, abusive romance? If it were me, I’d definitely…
Realizing her thoughts were straying, Qin Yang rubbed her nose, ignoring the faint pang of disappointment in her heart, and looked at Wen Jin’an.
Name it?
Wen Jin’an gently squeezed the little creature’s paw, a strange feeling rising within her. Her eyes darkened slightly. “The Wife-Husband caught it. You should name it.”
She would be leaving soon, and she couldn’t take the White Raccoon Dog with her. It was best not to form any attachments.
“It’s a gift for you, of course you should name it,” Qin Yang said matter-of-factly.
A gift for me?
Wen Jin’an’s heart felt like it had been gently tickled by a feather. Ironically, this was the first gift she had ever received, and it came from the person she disliked the most.
Composing herself, Wen Jin’an said softly in her melodious voice, “Since it’s all white, let’s call it Xiao Bai. What does Wife-Husband think?”
Xiao Bai?
Qin Yang glanced over and saw the little creature nuzzling Wen Jin’an’s hand affectionately, clearly fond of her. The name was a bit unimaginative, but as long as it liked it, that was all that mattered. Besides, it was the Female Lead who had chosen it.
“Xiao Bai it is,” Qin Yang said, glancing out the window. “Let’s get some rest. We’ll leave early tomorrow morning.”
Wen Jin’an nodded, picked up Xiao Bai, and placed it in its nest. The little creature obediently looked up at Wen Jin’an, curled up, rested its head on its front paws, and closed its eyes.
After a long night of dealing with the Jinchán and arguing with the Qin Family, Qin Yang fell asleep almost immediately. When she opened her eyes again, it was already the next day.
Remembering they were leaving today, Qin Yang got up and brought in a basin of water. Since there was no place to set it down, she simply held it in her hands.
“Wash up first,” Qin Yang said with a smile to Wen Jin’an, completely oblivious to the impropriety of her actions. “We’ll leave right after.”
Wen Jin’an froze, her expression shifting. In the past, such a thing would have been unthinkable. She stared at the wooden basin for a long moment before lifting her gaze. Qin Yang’s eyes were clear and bright, as if they held the stars themselves.
“Wife-Husband, you can put it down. I can manage myself,” Wen Jin’an said, averting her eyes.
First, Qin Yang had entrusted her with their money. Then she had given her gifts. And now this…
Wen Jin’an nearly softened, but the memory of the hardships she had endured at the Qin Family’s hands over the past two months hardened her resolve.
She glanced at Qin Yang again, finding her staring back with eager anticipation.
“Thank you, Wife-Husband,” Wen Jin’an said, relaxing slightly as she began washing up with the water Qin Yang held.
Qin Yang beamed, her face radiant with affection.
Having decided to take nothing with them, the two women packed quickly. Wen Jin’an cradled Xiao Bai in her arms as Qin Yang helped her out of the house.
The Qin Family members were already waiting in the courtyard. Seeing that the women were indeed leaving empty-handed, they couldn’t voice any objections. Liu Yue’e glared at them with venomous resentment.
After leaving the Qin Family, Qin Yang first took Wen Jin’an to the Village Head’s house to finalize their household registration. Separating completely from the Qin Family would bring peace of mind. Moreover, since they needed to find lodging in the county seat anyway, obtaining the necessary paperwork now would save them a trip later.
