The Scumbag Who Bowed for Money (GL , ABO) - Chapter 3
[We went for a check-up today. The doctor said we were a perfect match. She’s adorable too. Maybe this is fate.]
The lights in the room were off. Xie Yuanwei lay flat on her back, hands clasped over her chest, eyes wide open as she tried to breathe as quietly as possible.
Right after she had said they should sleep, Le Shi climbed off her and lay down beside her. Within minutes, her breathing became soft and steady. She was completely unbothered by Xie Yuanwei’s presence.
The alpha stared at her in silence for a few seconds, then quietly lifted the blanket and slipped under it. Le Shi was clearly exhausted. She was lying on her side with half her face buried in the pillow. Without makeup, her lips still looked full and deep red.
Xie Yuanwei watched her for a few moments in the soft moonlight, then looked away. She gently pulled the blanket up around Le Shi’s shoulders to make sure she was properly covered, then finally closed her eyes and tried to sleep.
She was a slow sleeper. Just as she began to drift off, she suddenly felt a weight on her. Her eyes opened slowly, and her hand reached up on instinct. The warmth she felt made her immediately alert. It was Le Shi’s arm.
The omega had wrapped an arm around her neck and scooted closer, resting her head in the curve of Xie Yuanwei’s neck. Her breath was warm against Xie Yuanwei’s skin, and her temperature kept rising. The alpha froze in place, unsure what to do. Her ears felt hot, and she was certain they were bright red.
Xie Yuanwei could clearly feel how soft Le Shi was. Her body was warm and gentle. She was a little shorter than Xie Yuanwei, probably by three or four centimeters. Since Le Shi liked sleeping buried under the blanket, she gradually slipped downward in her sleep.
“You really don’t sleep very still, do you?” Xie Yuanwei whispered as she gently pulled Le Shi back up and tucked the blanket around her again.
She had to do that three times.
After the third time, Le Shi had enough. She opened her eyes slightly, then closed them again, and blindly slapped Xie Yuanwei on the shoulder. Her voice was lazy but carried a hint of playful irritation.
“Stop moving. Do it again, and I’ll throw you out.”
Xie Yuanwei said nothing.
She simply stretched out her arm so Le Shi could use it as a pillow. And just like that, the alpha spent the night holding the omega in her arms.
The next morning, Xie Yuanwei was still half-asleep when the sound of movement woke her. She opened her eyes groggily and asked in a hoarse voice, “What time is it?”
Le Shi had her back to her. She paused, then turned to reply in a soft voice, “Six thirty.”
Xie Yuanwei snapped awake. “Six thirty? That’s so early. Are you getting up to go to work?”
Le Shi didn’t answer. She just quietly got up and went into the bathroom to change.
Xie Yuanwei sat on the bed, staring at the bathroom door. Now that she was up, she couldn’t fall back asleep. She got out of bed and looked around for clothes, but then remembered this wasn’t her room. She awkwardly tugged at the hem of her shirt like a shy bride.
When Le Shi came out of the bathroom, the first thing she saw was Xie Yuanwei standing near the door with wide, expectant eyes. She paused for a second, then seemed to remember something.
“I put clothes in the closet for you. They’re on the right side. I threw out the ones you brought. They felt unlucky.”
“Good idea,” Xie Yuanwei agreed quickly. “If they were an eyesore, it’s better to toss them.”
Le Shi gave her a side glance before walking over to the vanity.
“Your father mentioned to me that he wants you to start working at a company in the next few days. He said you should begin with an entry-level position.”
Xie Yuanwei immediately assumed she would be working at her own family’s company, since she knew the original character had a strong background.
But Le Shi corrected her a second later.
“My company.”
She applied her lipstick carefully and pressed her lips together. Still looking at herself in the mirror, she continued.
“Our engagement is known to some people, but not to everyone. There’s no need to go around announcing it.”
“Understood,” Xie Yuanwei replied without hesitation.
Le Shi nodded in satisfaction.
“You looked pretty bored being stuck in the room alone. So I’ve decided not to handcuff you today. After I finish my health checkup this morning, you’ll start work in the afternoon.”
The alpha’s facial muscles twitched slightly. She lowered her eyes and took a moment to process the news before replying quietly, “Okay.”
Le Shi noticed the change in her tone.
“You’re not happy about it?”
Xie Yuanwei kept her head down. She softly denied it, then looked up at Le Shi with wide, pitiful eyes.
“Do I still not get a phone or anything I can use to contact people?”
“Of course you do.”
Le Shi was amused by her reaction. She rested her chin on her hand and smiled.
“You have thirty minutes to get ready.”
That instantly lifted Xie Yuanwei’s spirits. She quickly searched the closet and changed into a fresh outfit.
She did her makeup simply and was pleased with the result. Standing tall, she announced, “I’m ready.”
“Wait a second.”
Le Shi didn’t look as satisfied. She frowned slightly and spoke in a softer tone.
“Help me with something.”
She handed Xie Yuanwei a suppressant patch without hesitation.
“You know how to apply this, right?”
If she said no, she might blow her cover. So she took a deep breath and accepted it.
“Of course.”
She guided Le Shi to sit in a chair. Carefully peeling off the patch, she gently lifted the omega’s hair. The gland at the back of her neck was a soft pink, with a slight bump. Xie Yuanwei touched the area with trembling fingers and tried to stick the patch in place. That familiar peach scent drifted up again.
So sweet.
That was all she could think. She quickly finished the task and took a few steps back. For some reason, whenever she smelled Le Shi’s pheromones, her heart would beat faster, like a drum pounding steadily in her chest.
“Xie Yuanwei.”
Le Shi suddenly grabbed her wrist. Her eyes were slightly red, and she looked at their reflection in the mirror. Her voice dropped.
“Do you even realize you’re not controlling your own pheromones?”
“Oh no,” Xie Yuanwei panicked. She covered the back of her neck with her hand. She had no idea how to control it. She could only focus and try her best.
Her voice trembled.
“What does mine even smell like? Can you still smell it now?”
Le Shi was silent for a moment. Eventually, she answered quietly.
“You smell like oranges.”
She paused to choose her words.
“Sour ones.”
Xie Yuanwei remained silent.
Le Shi stood up as well, then took two steps back to create space between them.
“After today’s check-up, you’ll understand why. But I need to remind you of something. I don’t care what your personality used to be. Since you agreed to this, you need to learn to manage your alpha pheromones.”
Xie Yuanwei straightened her posture. Her voice was full of determination and sincerity.
“I, Xie Yuanwei, promise President Le that I will be a top-tier alpha. No gambling, no cheating, no romantic entanglements. I can host in public and cook at home. If you say one, I will never say two.”
There was no harm in making a good impression.
Le Shi let out a short laugh and touched the area below her neck.
“Words are meaningless without action.”
Before Xie Yuanwei could respond, Le Shi said, “Wait a second. I want to wear a necklace.”
She opened a drawer and looked through the neatly arranged pieces inside. Her eyes scanned the options, and she hesitated briefly.
“This one will do.”
Xie Yuanwei had been watching and finally commented, “That necklace is really pretty. It sparkles.”
It was a simple silver necklace with a small rabbit-shaped pendant.
Le Shi held it between her fingers, examined it for a second, then nodded and passed it to her.
“Help me put it on. My younger cousin gave it to me.”
Xie Yuanwei took the necklace carefully, avoiding direct contact with Le Shi’s hand. She gently helped her fasten it and said softly, “It’s done.”
Le Shi looked into the mirror, observing their reflection. She rubbed her fingers together thoughtfully, then asked out of nowhere,
“You can push me away at night if I move too much. I don’t sleep very still.”
Xie Yuanwei didn’t think it was a big deal. She responded with a carefree smile.
“No problem. You don’t need to worry about it.”
Le Shi gave her a sideways glance but said nothing. She turned and walked out of the room, and Xie Yuanwei followed naturally.
They arrived at a private hospital. As soon as they entered, staff greeted them at the door. Xie Yuanwei looked around, trying to spot what made this place different, but besides the gender education posters on the walls, everything looked the same.
While the doctor was giving an introduction, Le Shi spoke in an even voice.
“This hospital is part of the Le Corporation. It includes the hotel where you stayed earlier.”
Xie Yuanwei froze slightly as she processed that.
“So next time you try to run, make sure you pick the right hotel.”
She could hear the warning in Le Shi’s voice and quickly responded.
“You don’t have to worry. There won’t be a next time.”
Le Shi folded her arms and tilted her head.
“Good.”
They had a long list of tests to get through. Bl00d work, physical exams, and more. By the end of it, Xie Yuanwei felt exhausted.
Lying on the exam bed, she looked at the doctor and asked, “Is there anything wrong with my body?”
Without looking up, the doctor replied, “Everything looks good. Your check-up is done. Go meet President Le and come back for the bl00d test results in ten minutes.”
Xie Yuanwei sat up immediately and said with energy, “Got it.”
She followed the directions to the consultation room where Le Shi was, but as an alpha, she was not allowed to enter. So she found a seat nearby and pulled out her phone.
Her screen was full of messages. Over the past few days, she had sorted out the original host’s contacts and was now able to respond smoothly.
One message came in from a friend listed as “Rebellious Little Princess.”
Want to hang out tonight?
The message was from Yan Yu, one of the original host’s reckless friends. She had failed to reach her yesterday and had sent a long stream of pointless texts.
Before coming to this world, Xie Yuanwei had not interacted with many people. She had never cared much about friendship either. She replied to a few of Yan Yu’s earlier messages, then sent a new one:
With Le Shi at a check-up. I’m going to be a good alpha. I’m starting work this afternoon, so I can’t just go out like before.
Yan Yu, who already knew about her situation with Le Shi, replied with a long line of question marks.
Xie Yuanwei, have you lost your mind?
Xie Yuanwei gave a smug little smile and typed back:
No time to talk. I’m going back to see Le Shi. Chat later.
She put her phone away and saw that ten minutes had passed. She picked up her bl00d test report, but the numbers and medical terms were too complicated to understand. After trying to make sense of it for a while, she gave up and jogged back to find Le Shi.
Just as she arrived, Le Shi came out of the consultation room.
“There you are. Come in.”
Xie Yuanwei followed her inside.
The doctor picked up the report and pushed her glasses up her nose. She placed the papers in front of them and asked, her voice filled with excitement,
“Do you know what this number means?”
Xie Yuanwei shook her head honestly. Le Shi didn’t react, as if she had already guessed the result.
The doctor chuckled and said,
“Your pheromone compatibility score is ninety-nine point nine one percent. That means the two of you are a perfect match.”
