The Scumbag Who Bowed for Money (GL , ABO) - Chapter 4
Xie Yuanwei still felt a bit dizzy as she walked out of the hospital. She held the medical report in her hand and followed slowly behind Le Shi. Her mind kept repeating what the doctor had said.
“The compatibility between your pheromones is very high. From every perspective, the match is extremely suitable.”
The doctor had adjusted his glasses and added,
“President Le, please consider this carefully.”
When Xie Yuanwei reached the car, she opened the door for Le Shi, forcing herself to stop thinking about it. Still, she felt there was something hidden that she didn’t know about.
But even if she did know, what difference would it make? It was not like she had any control over the situation.
They had a personal driver. Xie Yuanwei and Le Shi sat together in the back seat. Neither of them spoke for a while until the silence was broken by the sound of a message notification on the alpha’s phone.
Xie Yuanwei quickly checked it and saw a series of messages from Yan Yu.
“Are you done with the check-up? You’re going to work at Xie Corporation? Did your brain finally start working?”
“You’re not actually planning to marry Le Shi, are you?”
“Calm down! That woman is famously difficult to deal with. Be careful.”
“Reply immediately!”
Xie Yuanwei’s expression changed slightly as she typed a response.
“Not Xie Corporation. It’s Le Shi’s company. The marriage isn’t confirmed yet, but the engagement is real.”
Just as she was about to lock her phone, she added another message.
“Le Shi is actually kind of cute.”
Then she turned on silent mode, ignoring the flood of replies from her concerned friends.
“If you have things to do, go take care of them. Just come to the office at one thirty in the afternoon,” Le Shi said.
Xie Yuanwei looked surprised and turned to her. “Wait, didn’t you say yesterday you were going to keep me locked up? Now you’re just letting me go?”
Le Shi glanced at her with a cold expression and replied with a quiet hum. “Did you really think no one is keeping an eye on you? Yesterday was just a warning. If you act up again, I am capable of doing anything.”
Only then did Xie Yuanwei feel like this was the real Le Shi. If she had suddenly become kind, Xie Yuanwei would have thought she had done something terribly wrong.
She tossed her phone aside, sat upright, and placed her hands on her lap. With a confident smile, she said, “I don’t have any plans. How about I cook lunch for you, President Le? What would you like to eat?”
“Cook?” Le Shi looked doubtful. “You can cook? Is that one of your tricks to charm people?”
Xie Yuanwei almost wanted to swear to the sky. She shook her head firmly, her eyes filled with determination.
“You can relax. I meant it when I said I would change. I’m actually pretty good at cooking. Want to try? You haven’t eaten since this morning, right?”
The alpha almost reached out to tug on Le Shi’s sleeve. Her eyes blinked quickly, showing a rare softness, as if she were acting a little spoiled.
Le Shi stared at Xie Yuanwei without looking away. She lowered her head slightly, and her loose hair fell just enough to hide her eyes. She turned her face a little and gave a faint smile.
“Alright.”
Xie Yuanwei grinned happily. “Great.”
She knew the two of them had not spent much time together. In the original story, Le Shi’s ending was not a good one. The original Xie Yuanwei was nothing like her. She had taken a large sum of money and disappeared. Later, she gained a lot of advantages and ended up in a happy relationship with someone else while leaving Le Shi completely devastated.
Fortunately, Xie Yuanwei had arrived at the right time. No matter what she did now, there would be no consequences.
Even though she had not spent much time with Le Shi, she felt the omega had a sweet personality and was quite brave.
“President Le, can we stop by the market and buy some groceries?”
Le Shi turned to look at her, clearly still unsure. After observing her for a few seconds, she told the driver to head to the supermarket.
“I can go in and buy the groceries. You can wait in the car, President Le.”
As Xie Yuanwei reached for the door handle, she suddenly felt warmth on her arm. She turned and saw it was Le Shi.
“What is it?” she asked.
Le Shi looked serious, her face showing no emotion. “I am going with you.”
Xie Yuanwei groaned inside. The original version of her must have really made people lose trust. No wonder Le Shi was so suspicious.
Still, she remained polite. She asked the driver for a face mask, then opened the car door and offered her hand to help Le Shi out.
“President Le, please step out.”
Le Shi hesitated for a moment. She looked at Xie Yuanwei’s hand, unsure. After a few seconds, she placed her hand in hers. In that moment, their palms touched, and the warmth made the omega pause for a few seconds. Before she could think too much, Xie Yuanwei brought her back to reality.
“Wait, wear a mask.”
Xie Yuanwei handed her a brand new one and mumbled softly,
“You’re so pretty. You look like you’d get sick easily.”
Le Shi didn’t respond.
Inside the supermarket, there were not many people. Xie Yuanwei stayed close to Le Shi and took a shopping cart.
“I noticed you like snacks, but eating too many is not good. And there are so many instant noodles and frozen meals in the kitchen. If it’s too much trouble, you could hire a chef.”
Le Shi frowned slightly and explained,
“I am not home often. When I do come back, it is usually late. Hiring a chef would disturb others. I think it is too troublesome, so I don’t.”
“Oh,” Xie Yuanwei replied.
Le Shi felt that her tone was different and instinctively stepped slightly away from her.
“It’s a little warm,” she said.
“Huh?” Xie Yuanwei looked at her, then paused for a moment and nodded. “It is a bit warm. Let’s finish quickly and leave.”
“Do you have any food allergies or things you dislike, President Le?”
Le Shi was busy replying to messages and spoke without looking up.
“Carrots, cabbage, eggplant, fish, organ meat, wood ear mushrooms, and cilantro. I also don’t eat spicy food. I prefer lighter flavors. I am not a fan of eggs or potatoes either.”
There was a long silence.
When she looked up, she found Xie Yuanwei staring at her with a complicated expression. Only then did Le Shi realize how picky she sounded.
Xie Yuanwei laughed and pushed the cart forward.
“That’s really picky. Why not just tell me what you do like?”
Le Shi pressed her lips together, thought for a moment, and replied,
“I just don’t like them. It’s not that I won’t eat them. You can cook whatever you think is best.”
“Alright.”
Xie Yuanwei asked Le Shi to wait while she went to the vegetable section to pick some fresh ingredients.
Soon, Xie Yuanwei came back.
She seemed to be enjoying the whole process. Huffing slightly, she walked over to Le Shi and said, “Let’s go check out.”
Le Shi had been focused on her phone the whole time. Only when she looked into the cart did she notice that it was filled with snacks. She stared for a few seconds, then quickly looked away as if it had nothing to do with her.
On the way home, Xie Yuanwei looked cheerful. Le Shi, on the other hand, leaned against the window with her eyes closed, saying nothing at all.
Xie Yuanwei glanced around, then let her gaze settle on Le Shi. It was rare to see such a beautiful woman. There was something deeply satisfying about admiring someone so pretty.
She leaned in a little, observing Le Shi’s delicate features. She knew the other woman could feel her gaze. She even noticed a slight twitch in Le Shi’s eyelids. Delighted by the reaction, Xie Yuanwei smiled quietly, rubbing her fingers together before gently leaning closer.
“President Le, you look really beautiful today.”
As soon as she said it, she could sense a clear shift in Le Shi’s mood. The omega lifted her eyelids briefly, then closed her eyes again and turned slightly to the side, clearly avoiding eye contact.
Xie Yuanwei chuckled softly but said nothing more.
By the time they got out of the car, it was almost noon. Xie Yuanwei rushed to the door but had to stop and wait because she didn’t know the passcode.
Le Shi seemed a little surprised by how quickly Xie Yuanwei was adapting. As she walked over, she slowed her pace on purpose and gave a quiet snort while opening the door, carrying herself with unmistakable pride.
While they were at the hospital, someone had come by to clean the house. Xie Yuanwei got busy in the kitchen on her own. She began by organizing the refrigerator and storing the vegetables, then started cooking.
She made two dishes and a soup, all in a short amount of time. After placing everything on the table and setting the utensils, she stood there feeling quite pleased with herself. This was the perfect image of a responsible alpha. She thought to herself with satisfaction, building goodwill really could be this simple.
“President Le.”
She called out, but no one answered. Taking off her apron, she walked quickly into the living room and found Le Shi asleep on the sofa.
She remembered how tired Le Shi had looked in the car.
“Are you feeling alright?”
Xie Yuanwei gently patted her and whispered, “President Le, are you okay? Do you feel unwell?”
Le Shi gave a faint sound in response. Her face looked pale. She opened her eyes and looked at Xie Yuanwei for a few seconds. Her shoulders shrank a little as she lay back on the sofa. After a few more seconds, she finally responded, her voice low.
“I’m fine.”
Xie Yuanwei looked at her with concern.
“Really? Do you want to see a doctor?”
“I’m fine.” Le Shi tried to get up, but as soon as her feet touched the ground, her body went weak and her vision went dark. She collapsed forward without control.
“President Le!”
Xie Yuanwei panicked and rushed forward, catching her by the waist. It was only then that she realized how light Le Shi was. When they shared a bed, she had only vaguely felt it, but now the sensation was much more direct.
She adjusted her grip and gently held her up.
“Is it low bl00d sugar?”
“I…” Le Shi folded her hands in front of her, leaned on the alpha, and closed her eyes. After a long pause, she answered in a hoarse voice, “I think so.”
Xie Yuanwei helped her back onto the sofa, gave her some water, and searched through the snacks they had just bought. She knelt down and handed over some biscuits.
“Eat a little to settle your stomach. We’ll have lunch soon. If I had known you weren’t feeling well, I would’ve insisted we eat something after the check-up.”
Le Shi sat cross-legged on the sofa, looking down at Xie Yuanwei. She stared at her for a few seconds and then asked softly, “Xie Yuanwei, why are you suddenly being so kind?”
“Hm?”
Le Shi smiled. Her eyes were beautiful and bright as she stared directly at Xie Yuanwei.
“You do realize what people say about you outside? That you’re a troublemaker. A rebellious alpha who lies to young women. Is this just one of your tricks too?”
Xie Yuanwei was crouched down, placing Le Shi’s slippers in front of her. When she heard that, her eyebrows furrowed, and she sighed.
“That was the old me. Things are different now. I know I was wrong, and I really want to turn over a new leaf. Besides, didn’t you say we’re engaged? We’re even living together now, and this is your home. It’s only right that I take care of things.”
She didn’t say it out loud, but every time she looked at Le Shi, her heart softened. She was more than happy to do all of this.
Le Shi laughed after hearing her answer. She gently tilted Xie Yuanwei’s chin up with a finger, her tone carrying a trace of teasing.
“Highly compatible pheromones can influence people, you know.”
Xie Yuanwei looked puzzled. She gave a simple “Oh” and then added with confidence, “But pheromones aren’t everything. What really matters is the person.”
