The Scumbag’s Redemption: Kept by Her (GL) - Chapter 4
A girl around sixteen or seventeen years old stormed forward angrily and came to a stop.
She glared at Shen Yuwei, then glanced at the shoes in her hand. The rumors that had recently been circulating in the streets came flooding back to her, along with past resentments, both old and new.
Without hesitation, she gave Shen Yuwei a hard shove.
Shen Yuwei had been through a lot that day and was already weak. She had needed support just to walk out of the restaurant earlier. Caught off guard, she had no time to react, and her legs gave out beneath her as she started to fall.
Ling Jiao moved swiftly. She reached out and caught her just in time, saving Shen Yuwei from falling and being humiliated in front of everyone.
Unfortunately, the shoes slipped from Shen Yuwei’s hands and hit the ground with a loud clatter.
Ling Jiao’s hands were steady, and a continuous warmth radiated from her touch. It brought an unexpected sense of comfort and safety.
It felt strange.
Why would such a strange sense of security come from someone like her?
Shen Yuwei took a deep breath and looked at the girl who had shoved her. Her expression was cold.
Ling Jiao’s smile faded slightly as she asked calmly, “Who do you think you are, barking like a stray dog in front of me?”
The original Shen Yuwei had a flaw. She struggled to remember faces. At social events, people had to remind her who belonged to which family. Wan Qing, known for her charm and social skills, had become her unofficial advisor.
At that moment, Wan Qing coughed softly and whispered, “That is Lou Xiaoyu, the youngest daughter of the Lou family.”
“Speak louder,” Ling Jiao ordered.
Wan Qing hesitated for a moment, but then raised her voice, “That is Lou Xiaoyu, the youngest daughter of the Lou family.”
Ling Jiao raised her eyebrows. Not bad.
Their synchronized exchange eased the heavy tension in the air.
Someone standing behind Lou Xiaoyu couldn’t help but laugh. They quickly covered their mouth and nervously glanced at her.
Lou Xiaoyu gave them a sharp glare but decided to ignore it for now. She turned back to Shen Yuwei and said bitterly, “I thought you were someone with integrity, Shen Yuwei. Turns out you’re just like everyone else. You steal from others and then let someone shield you. Clearly, you have the guts to do it but not to admit it.”
Shen Yuwei’s face turned pale with embarrassment.
Lou Xiaoyu had been born to the Lou family’s matriarch at an advanced age and was cherished like a treasure. Since childhood, she had been pampered and spoiled. She often competed with Shen Yuwei for everything. When she lost, she would cry and act pitiful to gain sympathy. Because the Shen family held slightly higher status than the Lou family, Lou Xiaoyu rarely got her way. Most of their conflicts ended with her father dragging her over to apologize.
Later, they both entered the same elite academy. Lou Xiaoyu became even more outrageous.
Once, she had even tampered with Shen Yuwei’s answer sheet during an exam, trying to frame her for cheating and ruin her reputation.
Fortunately, someone witnessed the incident and testified, clearing Shen Yuwei’s name.
As both were Omegas, a protected group within the Federation, Lou Xiaoyu faced no serious consequences. Her punishment was simply to read a public apology in front of the entire school.
Since then, Lou Xiaoyu had harbored a deep resentment toward her. She constantly sought out ways to humiliate Shen Yuwei and provoke her at every turn.
In the past, Lou Xiaoyu had never dared to confront her openly. Most of her schemes were carried out behind the scenes. But today, she had openly shoved Shen Yuwei in public.
It was likely that the recent growing rumors had given her more confidence and fueled her malice. Now, she stood boldly in front of Shen Yuwei, no longer feeling any fear.
Instead, the past humiliation only made her even more arrogant and reckless.
“Enough,” Ling Jiao said, raising her hand in a gesture to stop. Her tone was calm, but her eyes showed interest. “You say these shoes are yours. Do they have your name on them? Why don’t you try calling them? If they answer, they’re yours. If not, you owe Shen Yuwei an apology.”
Lou Xiaoyu’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Why should I? The shoes are not alive. How could they possibly answer?”
Only now did she seem to notice Ling Jiao’s presence. Seeing that it was the girl often trailing after Shen Yuwei, she looked at her with contempt. “So you’re standing up for your little crush? If you want to defend her, maybe ask her first if she even wants your help.”
She added cruelly, “Bootlickers never end well.”
She was clearly trying to provoke Ling Jiao.
Ling Jiao raised an eyebrow, completely unbothered. With a calm smile, she replied, “What an unpleasant thing to say. Watch your words, kid. You might bring misfortune upon yourself. Be careful when crossing the street.”
“You,” Lou Xiaoyu said, shaking with anger.
“Everyone saw what just happened,” Ling Jiao said as she looked around at the crowd. Her voice was confident and steady.
“This girl from the Lou family pushed Shen Yuwei and caused a pair of shoes, worth a fortune, to fall and get damaged.”
She took the shoes from Wan Qing and showed them to the surrounding people.
The luxurious crocodile leather shoes now had broken beads, scuffed leather, and one heel was chipped. In an instant, they had lost all their value.
Ling Jiao looked down at the shoes and said with a sigh full of regret, “I really loved them. I was planning to pay millions for them, just to make Shen Yuwei smile. But now, it seems I was not meant to have them.”
The store owner was stunned. “When did those shoes become that expensive?”
“You say these shoes are yours. Do you have proof? Any documentation? A verbal agreement does not count,” Ling Jiao said gently. “Otherwise, I could just say you stole a hundred million from me yesterday.”
Lou Xiaoyu stared at her, completely speechless.
This pair of shoes had been designed by a niche foreign designer. Only ten pairs existed in the entire world. The designer was famously eccentric. He refused to set high prices, did not allow preorders, would not sign contracts in advance, and strictly banned secondhand sales.
If someone broke the rules, he would immediately mass-produce the design, flooding the market and making the shoes worthless.
Therefore, owning a pair was never about money. It required luck, patience, and determination.
This batch had just arrived today. Ling Jiao had coincidentally been the first to arrive and secured the shoes. Lou Xiaoyu had rushed in, assuming they would be hers without question. Seeing them in someone else’s hands had driven her to rage.
Ling Jiao’s words struck right at her weak spot.
Lou Xiaoyu glared and said coldly, “Those shoes only cost a few hundred thousand at most. Do you really expect me to be your scapegoat?”
Ling Jiao looked innocent. “But because of you, this shop lost millions. And I lost the chance to win over a beautiful woman. Honestly, I think I’m being very kind not asking you to compensate for emotional damages.”
Lou Xiaoyu’s temper exploded. “Emotional damages?”
She stepped forward, ready to fight.
Someone behind her tugged at her sleeve and whispered, “Xiaoyu, she is an Alpha. You can’t beat her.”
Wan Qing stepped forward with a proud expression. “My boss is the daughter of the Ling family.”
The Ling family and the Shen family were of equal status. Each had their strengths. Even though Shen Yuwei deeply disliked Ling Jiao, she never dared to sever ties completely. At most, she would issue a few warnings and tell her to keep her distance.
The Ling family was known for producing top-tier Alphas. Ling Jiao was one of them. Once she became an adult, she would be among the most powerful individuals in the world. Even if she caused trouble, her family would smile and take care of the consequences.
For a physically weak Omega to try and fight her was pure foolishness.
Of course, the Federation had laws protecting Omegas. Physical assault against them was strictly forbidden. If an Omega filed a report, the case would be brought before the Military Tribunal.
This gave Lou Xiaoyu some confidence. She sneered, “You wouldn’t dare hit me.”
Ling Jiao looked at her with curiosity. “Who said anything about hitting you? You have two choices. Either kneel down and apologize, or pay ten million in compensation. Otherwise—”
She blinked. In an instant, a thin layer of moisture gathered in her eyes. Her voice caught as she choked out, “I’ll call my dad and tell him you bullied me.”
True wealthy heiresses relied on their family background, not empty threats.
In the original story, the arrogant heiress dared to be so reckless only because of her powerful identity. That was why she treated the Omega, Shen Yuwei, so poorly.
Shen Yuwei looked at Ling Jiao with a complex expression.
Disputes between young people were usually resolved among themselves. But once adults got involved, it came down to one thing: whose family had more power. Lou Xiaoyu understood this well. She just didn’t expect that the so-called clingy follower would have no shame at all and immediately bring in the grown-ups.
Lou Xiaoyu’s face turned pale. Her arrogance vanished. “You have no shame!”
Ling Jiao calmly took out her phone and waved it in front of her, preparing to make the call.
Lou Xiaoyu shouted in a panic, “Fine, I’ll pay! I’ll pay, alright?”
Between paying ten million or kneeling to apologize, she would rather lose money. Her reputation was more important. If she really knelt, it would become headline gossip by tomorrow, and she would be the laughingstock of the entire social circle.
She remembered that the girl who used to follow Shen Yuwei around never interfered in her affairs. Back then, Lou Xiaoyu even thought that Ling Jiao shared her views. She believed that once the proud and untouchable Shen Yuwei was knocked off her pedestal, she would finally recognize Ling Jiao’s worth and fall in love with her.
But today, everything was different.
Lou Xiaoyu had pocket money, but she couldn’t immediately come up with ten million on the spot. She didn’t want others to know how badly she had embarrassed herself, so she gritted her teeth and dipped into her dowry, a gift from her mother.
One day, she vowed to get that money back from Ling Jiao, with interest.
She raised her hand to authorize the payment.
Just then, Shen Yuwei suddenly spoke up. “Wait.”
Throughout this whole scene, she had barely said a word.
Lou Xiaoyu was already red with anger. “If you have something to say, say it!”
Shen Yuwei pressed her lips together. “How do we know you won’t accuse the shop of fraud afterward and take them to court? It’s better if you sign a gift contract.”
Lou Xiaoyu was stunned. “Sign what?”
Shen Yuwei replied seriously, “Omegas shouldn’t use foul language.”
Lou Xiaoyu was speechless.
She was unwilling, but that cursed Alpha was standing there with a bright smile, still waving her phone in the air.
Grinding her teeth, Lou Xiaoyu signed her name on the contract, transferred the money, and turned to leave.
Shen Yuwei’s expression remained calm. “These are your shoes. Take them with you.”
Lou Xiaoyu lost control of her emotions and ran out of the store in frustration.
Her trembling followers glanced nervously at Shen Yuwei, then at Ling Jiao, who looked perfectly relaxed. One of them accepted the shoes from Wan Qing, clutched them tightly, and hurried out to chase after her.
Ling Jiao stretched her arms and let out a satisfied sigh. “Good timing. You didn’t like those shoes anyway. Let’s pick a pair you actually like.”
The shop owner, overwhelmed by this sudden fortune, stepped forward hesitantly. “This money… I… I can’t accept it.”
Ling Jiao rolled her eyes. “Deduct the price of the shoes and today’s total sales. The rest belongs to me. Got it?”
She then turned to Shen Yuwei and blinked sweetly. “We’ll split it fifty-fifty.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she added with a click of her tongue, “I really am a kind-hearted angel.”
Shen Yuwei didn’t respond.
