The Scumbag’s Redemption: Kept by Her (GL) - Chapter 8
In the past, Shen Yuwei never cared about this small amount of money. But now that her Xingxing Card had been frozen, she only had six hundred thousand yuan left, split fifty-fifty with Ling Jiao after they scammed Lou Xiaoyu.
The signed debt contract was for fifty thousand less, only five hundred thousand.
Of course, she could return the card to Ling Jiao. But if her father had no intention of unfreezing her Xingxing Card, it meant she would be penniless for a long time. She could not afford to give up the card, and the debt still had to be carried.
She felt both wronged and helpless.
She did not want any connection with Ling Jiao beyond the debt they shared.
Shen Yuwei did not reply to the message.
Her body and mind were exhausted. Her eyelids grew heavy, and before she could stop herself, she closed her eyes for a short nap. The sound of knocking startled her awake.
The butler stood outside the door and said softly, “Miss Yuwei, the master has asked you to hand over your card.”
“That card was part of the dowry left by the late Madam for her daughter.”
After Shen Xiaoxiao entered the house, she had taken a DNA test. Shen Zhiwen was still uneasy, so he went with her to the hospital. They waited all afternoon. Once the results came back, he finally gave up on his doubts.
Maybe he had been hoping they were twins.
Shen Yuwei could not understand it.
She got dressed and stood up. She gathered all her cards and handed them to the butler, who accepted them and put them away. He looked at her with sympathy in his eyes and said gently, “Miss Yuwei, are you alright?”
After the truth about the switched daughters came to light, Shen Zhiwen had only announced that his biological daughter, who had been lost for years, had returned home. Outsiders who did not know the full story assumed that Shen Xiaoxiao and Shen Yuwei were twin sisters. Some old socialites, after hearing the real story, spread it quietly. The upper-class circles had already pieced together most of the truth.
People like Lou Xiaoyu, who knew what really happened, naturally showed no kindness to Shen Yuwei.
Shen Yuwei shook her head.
She did not want the butler to worry.
“I’m fine,” she said. After a short pause, she asked, “Uncle, did you see my rainbow-colored box?”
The box held gifts that the late Madam had given her over the years.
They were just small trinkets that looked nice but had little monetary value.
The butler shook his head. “I will ask the people who moved your things. You have had a difficult few days, Miss Yuwei. Try to get some rest.”
“Thank you, Uncle.” Shen Yuwei gave him a small smile, then gently closed the door and returned to her bed.
The layout and furniture in the room were all unfamiliar and new.
Everyone in the Shen family knew that she had trouble sleeping in a new bed. If she did not sleep in her own room, she would toss and turn all night and wake up in a terrible mood the next day. Even if her father was busy, he would stop what he was doing to comfort her and sing her the lullaby she had heard so many times since she was young. If her father was not there, the butler would bring her fresh flowers. If even the butler was away, someone else would always step in to take care of her.
Now that she had been moved, it was clear that no one had considered her difficulty sleeping.
But who could she blame?
Shen Yuwei sat on the edge of the bed in silence.
A few minutes passed.
In the quiet night, a hand slowly pushed open the shutters. A dark figure leaped in through the window with practiced ease, rolled twice to muffle the sound, and stood up. Right away, she saw the unhappy girl sitting at the edge of the bed.
Startled by the noise, Shen Yuwei leaned back in surprise.
“It’s me,” Guan Qing said in a low voice. “Don’t scream.”
Shen Yuwei recognized her and widened her eyes. “How did you know I was in this room?”
Guan Qing cleared her throat. “It’s not like your house is made of iron walls. I just asked someone and found out where you were.”
Guan Qing was Shen Yuwei’s fiancée.
When she heard that Shen Yuwei had left after an argument with her family, she grew worried. So under the cover of night, she climbed in through the window.
“Are you alright?” she asked gently. “Why didn’t you come find me today? Lou Xiaoyu called me and made a few sarcastic comments about you being with that spoiled troublemaker from the Ling family. I was afraid she would try to take advantage of you.”
Shen Yuwei shook her head.
After a pause, she said softly, “Actually, she’s not completely bad.”
It sounded like she was trying to defend Ling Jiao.
Guan Qing frowned. She wanted to tell Shen Yuwei every bad thing she had ever heard about Ling Jiao. “You must stay far away from her. She doesn’t care about anyone’s boundaries. I heard she flirts everywhere and almost caused someone to die.”
Shen Yuwei fell silent.
Guan Qing started talking about her own life and asked how Shen Yuwei had been. After chatting for a bit, she leaned in close and said quietly, “I haven’t seen you in a while. You haven’t been to school either.”
“My dad took time off for me,” Shen Yuwei replied.
Guan Qing sighed. “I heard Uncle Shen is holding a press conference and planning a banquet to formally introduce Shen Xiaoxiao to everyone.”
“Yuwei,” she said, gently holding Shen Yuwei’s hand, her voice full of emotion. “If you ever feel wronged at home, you can tell me. I am your fiancĂ©e, your Alpha for life. I’ll stand by your side no matter what.”
“If you want, we don’t have to wait until university to get married.”
She imagined their future together, full of love and support. “I will protect you with everything I have.”
In the past, Shen Yuwei would have felt touched and comforted by these sweet words.
But for some reason, tonight they felt heavy and tiresome. She interrupted Guan Qing.
“What if I am no longer the eldest daughter of the Shen family?” she asked.
Guan Qing froze. “What do you mean?”
“I’m not the Shen family’s eldest daughter anymore. I won’t be able to inherit anything from the Shen family.” Shen Yuwei looked at her and spoke softly, “If that’s the case, would you still want to marry me? Would you still love and care for me for the rest of your life?”
Guan Qing gently rubbed her head and smiled. “Silly Vivi, what are you talking about? I love you for who you are.”
Shen Yuwei was easily comforted, like many Omegas. With just a few kind words from Guan Qing, the concern she had been holding onto faded quickly.
Guan Qing started sharing some lighthearted stories from school. Shen Yuwei gradually relaxed, and a faint smile appeared on her lips.
Once the mood felt right, Guan Qing cleared her throat and asked in a gentle voice, “Vivi, could you transfer six hundred thousand yuan to me? The company I started ran into some problems and needs extra cash to keep going. My dad gave me two million, but I’m still short by six hundred thousand. He told me to figure out the rest on my own.”
“I really didn’t know who else to ask. You were the only one I could think of.”
“You usually have plenty of allowance. Six hundred thousand isn’t that much. Once things get back on track, I’ll return the money and even give you a little surprise. How does that sound?”
Guan Qing was an Alpha, but unlike most who disliked softness or being vulnerable, she was different. She was polite, respectful, and never looked down on Omegas. She carried herself with grace and never acted overly dominant.
This was the first time she had ever asked Shen Yuwei for anything.
Shen Yuwei felt torn. She did not want to say no. Guan Qing was her fiancée, someone she trusted deeply. She believed she would never be deceived or taken advantage of.
Besides, she had taken time off from school and would not be using much money in the near future.
After a moment of hesitation, she nodded in agreement.
Guan Qing’s face lit up with joy. She leaned forward to kiss her, but Shen Yuwei turned her face away quickly. Her cheeks turned red as she whispered, “My mom said we should only do those things after marriage.”
Guan Qing let out a soft sigh. “Alright, Vivi. You are in charge. I will listen to you.”
Just then, a maid knocked on the door and asked politely, “Miss, do you need something? I thought I heard you calling me.”
Shen Yuwei quickly pushed Guan Qing toward the window. “You should go. If someone sees you here, my dad will definitely say something.”
Guan Qing nodded. “Call me if anything comes up. I’ll visit you again next time.”
With a few light steps, she opened the shutters and disappeared into the night.
Once she was gone, Shen Yuwei took a deep breath and raised her voice. “I didn’t call you. You must have misheard.”
The maid walked away.
Shen Yuwei felt her ears burning. She rubbed them gently and tried to calm down. After a while, she remembered the money she had just transferred to Guan Qing.
A hint of regret crept into her heart.
Now she truly had nothing left. Not even the portion Ling Jiao had given her.
Earlier, she told herself that losing a little money did not matter. But now, Shen Yuwei made up her mind. She would call Ling Jiao back.
If she could lower her debt, even just a little, it would be worth it.
She made the call, and the line was picked up almost immediately. It felt like Ling Jiao had been holding her phone the whole time, waiting just for this moment.
Ling Jiao’s voice came through, light and teasing, like a child who had been promised candy but never received it.
“I’ve been waiting two hours and sixteen minutes for this call. You finally decided to call me.”
