The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 11
Chapter 11: Rare Drop
I woke up, and my vision was filled with a white ceiling. From the lingering scent of chemicals, I gathered that I was in a clinic. As I sat up in bed, I noticed that I was holding something in both hands.
“…Huh?”
In my hands were the jet-black small dagger and hand axe that I had before I lost consciousness. I wondered if it had all been a hallucination due to my hazy consciousness and why I had been sleeping with these weapons.
“Ahem, it seems you’ve awakened. You’ve been asleep for a full day. Do you feel any abnormalities in your body?”
“No, there don’t seem to be any issues…”
“…Ah, as for those weapons, we couldn’t remove them, so we left them on you during the treatment.”
For a moment, I thought they were cursed, but I could release them without any issues. Perhaps I had been gripping them with an incredibly strong force.
After undergoing an examination and receiving a clean bill of health, I boarded a carriage back to Walklear. Normally, it would be faster to return by enhancing my body, but I was still recovering from my illness, so I opted for a leisurely journey back.
—
“I’ve never seen a monster like that… It could be a sudden mutation, but it’s extremely rare for one to become a boss.”
The guild master murmured, his arms crossed, lost in thought. I was worried if he would believe the bizarre report, but it seemed that my concerns were unfounded.
“Is it possible for a boss to undergo a sudden mutation?”
“Well, monster mutations, especially ones that result in bosses, are incredibly rare, occurring perhaps once every few decades. There are other possibilities to consider, of course, but for now, a sudden mutation seems the most likely.”
With that, the conversation shifted, and the guild master’s gaze turned to the two weapons on the table, the jet-black small dagger and hand axe.
“And these are the weapons you obtained after defeating the boss?”
The guild master reached out slowly, but the moment he touched them, something like black electricity surged from the weapons, repelling his hand.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, but the fact that rare drops actually exist…”
“Rare drops…”
I echoed the unfamiliar term, and he seemed to understand that I needed an explanation.
“When you defeat monsters, they usually drop magic stones, but items or equipment that they’ve turned into are called rare drops. I had only heard of them in legends until now; I even thought it was just a fairy tale.”
“…What should I do with them?”
“Just keep them. In principle, items obtained in dungeons other than those specifically requested for a quest belong to the adventurers who obtained them. Besides, if only you can touch them, there’s no point in us buying them.”
Given that, I decided to stow them on my belt for the time being. When I held them, just like when I first acquired them, these weapons had a strange sense of familiarity.
“As for what these rare drops are, I have no idea. The truth is, rare drops were considered to be things only found in legends, so we don’t have any detailed information about them. That’s why…”
Saying that, he opened a drawer and pulled out a request form, handing it to me. Written on the request was “Investigate Rare Drops.”
“I’d like you to investigate the details of these weapons, their properties, and the conditions under which rare drops occur, including which monsters can produce them.”
“I’m in the dark about all this as well…”
“Even so, you’re the first adventurer in our guild to obtain a rare drop. Also, don’t feel pressured; you don’t have to do everything. Just report back if you notice anything. You don’t have to be overly concerned.”
In other words, I only needed to report anything I happened to notice. If that was the extent of it, I was willing to take on the task.
“Alright, I’ll accept the request.”
“Thank you. And also…”
The guild master took out a small plate from a drawer. On it was an adventurer’s tag that shone in silver.
“Considering your achievements this time and your potential, your promotion has been approved. From now on, we expect you to be a role model for all adventurers. Keep up the good work.”
My name as an adventurer was engraved on the tag…
—
After completing various procedures, I was about to leave the adventurer’s guild, feeling that it had been an incredibly eventful day. I was contemplating what to do next when I headed toward the exit…
“Ah!”
Just as I was about to reach for the door, it swung open, and a familiar girl entered. Looking at her again, she was strikingly beautiful, her swordswoman’s attire accentuating her well-defined figure. She had long, flowing golden hair that reached down to her waist. The moment she saw my face, her eyes sparkled.
“I found you! You really were in this town!”
The girl quickly closed the distance between us and exclaimed.
“Hey! Can you show me your weapons?”
It seemed the girl I had saved earlier was a bit of an eccentric…
