Chapter 111: Mirror of Darkness
(Teresa’s Perspective)
Suddenly pushed back, when I looked up, I saw Serk stabbing that merchant.
“I thought I completely caught you off guard… However, it seems I’ve won.”
With those words, Serk was grabbed by an arm made of solidified darkness and pulled into a mirror that fit in the palm of his hand.
“Hehehe… hahaha! Unexpected things happened, but the most troublesome entity has been neutralized! Ah, indeed, indeed! Stealing from these wretched beings is the way to go!”
The merchant laughed while pulling out the sword from his chest. His appearance was nothing short of a hideous demon.
As the merchant turned towards me, a pillar in the courtyard was destroyed. Simultaneously, as the barrier covering the courtyard was lifted, a warrior clad in a rock armor charged at the merchant.
The merchant dodged the warrior’s sword, avoiding the swinging blade skillfully while creating distance, enveloped in shadows.
“… What did you do to Berg!?”
“I just extended an invitation. Into the depths of darkness.”
While shading the mirror in his hand, the merchant spoke, as if narrating his own achievements.
“This mirror was crafted based on the rare drop of a certain divine mirror… Through the key, it contains the darkness gathered from the people in this country.”
“Darkness… you say?”
“Yes… the darkness of hundreds and thousands of people. It is condensed within this mirror.”
With a malicious grin, the merchant spoke, infusing all his malevolence.
“No matter how strong, no matter how resilient, there are countless ways. The condensed darkness will expose and engulf any darkness a person may possess! No matter how much effort you put in, it’s too late now!
Light cannot reach the abyss of darkness. Without light, any human being will be swallowed by darkness! Just like the people in this country!”
“You…!”
The warrior gripped the sword in his hand so tightly that it made a creaking sound. An overwhelming anger overflowed.
“How much more do you want to take from Ganza-san, even Berg!?”
“How much… you ask?”
As the warrior attacked, shouting, the merchant, surrounded by the shadow at his feet, declared.
“As much… as possible.”
—
(Berg’s Perspective)
I shook off the grasping hand and landed. As I stood up and looked around, darkness spread endlessly.
“Where is this…”
Walking slowly through the darkness, as if being in the midst of black clouds, I searched for something…
Multiple presences appeared around me. Holding my sword ready, one of them attacked.
Swinging my sword to cut through the giant shadow that lunged at me, I immediately turned around and swung my sword in a straight line. The shadow dissipated in an instant.
…
Holding a hand axe in my free hand, I slammed it into the head of the approaching shadow from behind. Swinging it forcefully, I threw the hand axe, hitting the approaching shadows.
“Tch…”
There was no sign that the number of shadows was decreasing. From the palpable presence, I was surrounded by hundreds of these shadows…
