The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 167
Chapter 167: The Foundation Bearer
Dyvolus grabs a part of the heap of skeletons and throws it towards us. Aria incinerates it with a wall of flames while Serena fires a bullet of water.
As Dyvolus advances, deflecting the water bullets with its arm resembling a bundled spinal cord, I swiftly run towards it with a battle axe, slashing at its ankle as I pass through.
“Damn!” Despite making only minor scratches on its tough skin, I manage to thrust a sword, cloaked in darkness, into Dyvolus’ back, piercing halfway through.
“――――――――!” Dyvolus roars, causing the area where the sword pierced to writhe as multiple skeletal arms extend towards me. Just before they grab me, I leap away as Dyvolus swings its giant fist while turning around.
Using my shield, I withstand the blow with “Wind Guard Followwind,” but the impact sends me flying backward. However, I prevent myself from being blown away by wrapping a chain around my left fist just as it collides.
While I distract Dyvolus, Shurin fires several arrows. However, the arrows fail to root themselves before being shot, preventing the vines from spreading.
As I land after using the chain, Dyvolus swings its right arm downward at me. But Aria intercepts it mid-swing, causing it to veer off course as I retreat.
“That’s…” I notice the deep gash left by Aria’s attack on its left arm. Drawing out my crescent axe, I leap towards its right arm, slashing at it while cloaked in wind.
The blade of the crescent axe barely bites into the bone, and the skeletal arms extend once more from the arm.
“Grrrr!” Fending off the approaching skeletons, I retreat to where Serena and Shurin are. As the skeletons fall from where Aria slashed, they return to their original state.
(The carving on the door… martyrdom… the difference in our attacks with Aria…)
Aria, who had restrained with flames, returns. We both tighten our resolve as we face Dyvolus once again.
“As the information suggests… sturdy yet with high regenerative abilities.”
“Yeah… but we’ve found a lead.”
As I share my thoughts with Aria standing beside me, the others nod in agreement.
“Alright, then Aria and I will buy some time. Meanwhile, Serena and Shurin, prepare… If things go south, we’ll rely on Aria’s flaming attire to finish it.”
“Understood.”
“I’m in.”
“Got it.”
As we devise a plan, Dyvolus shouts out. The skeletons gather around it and meld into a massive hammer in its hand.
As the hammer strikes down, causing shockwaves, Serena and Shurin stand before it, unleashing a storm of darkness and flames from their swords to counteract it.
Aria slashes at the hand holding the hammer with her heated sword, but it only manages to scorch the surface.
Alternating our attacks, Aria and I continue to assault Dyvolus. However, our swords, cloaked in darkness and flames, fail to reach the bone at its core.
Although we could destroy its core by exploiting an opening, we didn’t want to waste our efforts unnecessarily. So, we decide to try something else first.
“Berg, Aria, move back!”
At Serena’s signal, we both step back simultaneously. Above Dyvolus’ head, a huge water sphere conjured by Serena floats.
When Serena brings her staff down, the sphere bursts, showering Dyvolus with rain. Gradually, the skeletons forming its body begin to peel away.
“…―――…!”
As Dyvolus slows down, its skeletons begin to peel away, revealing its bones. Shurin draws an arrow, filled with immense magical power.
The arrow is released, slicing through the air before striking Dyvolus between the eyes. It explodes upon impact, shattering its giant skull.
With its skull gone, Dyvolus collapses with a rumble, transforming into a magic stone…
