The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 169
Chapter 169: The Hall of Struggle and Conquest
At the top of the stairs lay darkness. The darkness was so thick that not even the light from the staircase could penetrate it, making it impossible for me to see.
Using a specially made torch with a magic stone attached to the tip of an iron rod, I illuminated the area and saw an uneven grid-like floor.
Underneath the floor, stakes were lined up, and some gaps were large enough for a person to fall through.
“Shurin, do you know which way to go from here?”
“Yeah, straight ahead from here.”
“In that case, I’ll go ahead. Aria, I’ll leave the rear to you.”
“Got it.”
After each of us prepared our lanterns, we carefully walked across the grid-like floor. The room seemed quite large, and even though our eyes were adjusting to the darkness, we still couldn’t see the far wall.
We had probably reached about halfway through the room when I noticed a particularly large hole in front of me.
As I tried to navigate around the hole to avoid tripping, something fell from the edge of the hole, emitting light as it reflected magical energy.
“A gold coin?”
I aimed the torch in that direction and saw that it was indeed a gold coin. Unlike the coins we use, it looked like a custom-made piece with a warrior statue intricately carved on it.
“Huh!?”
Immediately after seeing the gold coin, a hand emerged from the hole at an incredible speed and grabbed it. The mummy that emerged from the hole had bloodshot eyes and looked at us intensely.
“Good stuff… Give it… Here!”
As the mummy lunged towards us, I split it in half with my sword. The gold coin dropped from the mummy’s disintegrating hands with a loud clang.
Flames erupted from the hole, illuminating the room. Beneath the uneven grid-like floor, in addition to the stakes, there were mummies looking up at us. The walls were densely packed with undead creatures like mummies and skeletons, so numerous that it seemed ridiculous.
As the undead creatures crawled out from the walls, a multitude of them surrounded us. Some wielded rusted weapons, while others had bloodshot eyes and voices that echoed from the depths of the earth.
“Give it! Treasure! Arms! Gold! Greedy! Give! Take! Snatch! Give it! Give it! Give it! Give it! Give it!”
“Give it to us!!!”
The undead creatures surged towards us, but Aria swept them away with her flames, and Serena blocked them with a water barrier.
Shurin shot arrows towards the ceiling, which exploded just above it, raining down dozens of blades on the undead creatures.
Although the onslaught of undead creatures was repelled by Aria and the others’ attacks, new ones continued to emerge from the walls and ceiling. With a curse, I yelled while facing the mummy approaching with a dark slash.
“Hurry to the staircase!”
Kicking aside the approaching undead creatures, we all headed towards the staircase at the back…
