The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 174
Chapter 174: Dazzled Eyes
Serena protected the room from the unleashed lightning with a water barrier, causing the lightning to flow over the surface of the barrier and dissipate.
After dodging the lightning, Gridwen, now nearly twice my height, swung its enlarged sword in a wide arc.
I flipped in mid-air to avoid the sword and slashed at its knees. However, the sensation of the sword being less effective than before made me frown, and then Gridwen attacked with its chakram and sword.
While Aria attacked from the other side, Gridwen clashed with the approaching axe and staff. Not only had Gridwen become stronger physically, but its fighting style had also improved.
(At this rate, we’re in trouble.)
Until we could figure out why Gridwen kept resurrecting, we couldn’t defeat it. While fending off its attacks, I looked around.
(Is there another main body somewhere? Or is there some mechanism in this room itself?)
“Berg!”
Following Aria’s voice, I blocked the swung axe with my shield. As I rolled to the wall, I noticed the decorations on it. Suddenly, I felt something and looked closer. The decorations depicted those who had been engraved on the previous gold coins.
What caught my attention were the eyes of the statues. Amidst everything being made of gold, only the eyes were made of crystals imbued with the same magic as those on the gold coins.
(Is this it?)
I struck the crystal with the pommel of my sword. With a shattering sound, the crystal broke apart, and both its glow and magic disappeared.
Confirming this, I once again charged at Gridwen with the wind enveloping me. Aria attacked from the side, severing the arm wielding the staff.
“Aria, Serena, Shurin, I’ll take care of this one. Destroy all the eyes of the statues in the room.”
“So, that’s the trick.”
“I’ll handle the ones above; you two take care of the ones below.”
Shurin said, shooting arrows to pierce the eyes of the statues beyond our reach. Aria and Serena also split up and began destroying the eyes.
As Gridwen attempted to interfere or head towards Aria and the others, I threw a hand axe at its mask, distracting it, and then stabbed it with the Estoc thrusting sword.
Just before being cut down by the axe, I jumped off, hooking the halberd onto the inner side of the chakram and causing it to fall.
While Gridwen swung its sword and axe menacingly, I dodged and retreated from Aria and the others. When there was enough distance, I confronted it with the halberd.
I dodged the sword swinging diagonally downward, and using the Wind Step, avoided the axe’s sweeping motion while striking Gridwen with the halberd.
A crack appeared in Gridwen’s mask upon the hit. Then, from the hand that had held the chakram, it conjured a golden spear and fitted a golden prosthetic arm onto the severed arm before advancing once more.
I managed to withstand the onslaught of its three weapons, dodging the spear thrust, evading the axe sweep, and deflecting the sword swing.
“Berg!”
Hearing Aria’s voice, I dodged the descending spear and leaped. As I passed over Gridwen’s head, I wrapped the chain around its neck and landed behind it. With all my strength, I pulled on the chain, causing Gridwen’s massive body to stagger and momentarily stop moving.
“Now!”
As I spoke, a flaming arrow from Shurin, tipped with my words, pierced Gridwen’s cracked mask, shattering it along with its head. Gridwen collapsed and crumbled, transforming into a magic stone…
