The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 6
006 – Appointment Request
“Special Request?”
As usual, I headed to the Adventurer’s Guild. The receptionist informed me that the Guild Master was calling for me. I was led to the back and without much preamble, he began speaking.
“Yes, indeed. Have you heard of the medium-sized dungeon ‘Twilight Sword Tomb’?”
“…If I remember correctly, it’s an underground cavern-type dungeon in the neighboring town. It’s inhabited by skeletons and zombies, right?”
“Indeed, you’re quite informed.”
The Guild Master, whose face was etched with wrinkles, smiled warmly and nodded. Despite his appearance, he was a seasoned veteran who had once been a high-ranking adventurer in the silver tier.
“The thing is, the number of monsters appearing in that dungeon has significantly increased recently. While adventurers have been tasked with handling the situation, I believe it’s necessary to investigate the bottom-most floor to determine the cause.”
“Is this a prelude to a monster calamity? I understand. However, wouldn’t a higher-ranked adventurer be more suitable for this?”
“Unfortunately, the timing is bad. The other silver-tier parties are currently away. Fortunately, a temporary party comprising Galan, a silver-tier, and a group of bronze-tier adventurers is on their way. But, I want you to investigate alongside them.”
The Guild Master wore a slightly troubled smile and explained why he was entrusting me with this task.
“Galan primarily works as an escort for caravans and such. While he’s undoubtedly skilled, the members of the temporary party are leaning towards combat roles. You’ve experienced various dungeon investigations, so I decided to request your help.”
I understood. To be honest, I had been taking the leftover dungeon investigation requests mainly because I could fight without interference and without worrying about others’ opinions.
“Understood. Should I head to the Tomb right away?”
“Yes, that would be appreciated. While I can’t offer an upfront payment, if you succeed in this request, I’m considering recommending you to the silver tier.”
“To the silver tier?”
Adventurer ranks progress from the bottom: Wood, Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. My current rank, bronze tier, was considered intermediate.
Advancing from bronze to silver wasn’t easy. Adventurers in the silver tier and above weren’t just judged by their personal strength and abilities but also by their impact on the overall image of adventurers. Personal character was secretly scrutinized too.
“It’s because of your outstanding work, even at a young age. What an adventurer needs isn’t their background or lineage, but their abilities and character.”
The Guild Master’s praise made me involuntarily look away. I hadn’t received such straightforward praise since my older brother. It felt embarrassing.
“…I’ll do my best to meet your expectations.”
I bowed my head and left the room. As I walked, a sense of realization gradually hit me: my efforts were being acknowledged, and that brought a smile to my face.
After Berg left the room, the Guild Master took a sheet of paper from a drawer.
It was a wanted poster with a description of a missing person. The paper had the name, date, and a facial sketch of the person who had disappeared.
“An adventurer’s background or lineage doesn’t matter. There’s no falsehood in that statement.”
The Guild Master murmured to himself, picturing the young man who had just left the room moments ago, although the atmosphere he exuded was different, he resembled the face in the sketch.
“So, as long as you’re an adventurer, I’ll treat you as one, Serk Grantos… no, Berg.”
