The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 87
Chapter 87: The Ones Who Launched the Attack
After dealing with Greb, I picked up the sword he had, noticing that the crystal on the guard resembled the one embedded in the chest of the monstrous creature that appeared in the kingdom.
Returning to the defensive wall, Aria, the soldiers, and Serena had gathered. Serena had just finished treating my brother.
“Is my brother okay?”
“Physically, he’s fine, but… the strain from pushing himself and the depletion of magical power has left him quite fatigued. It would be best for him to rest for a whole day.”
“Understood. Hey!”
I addressed the soldiers who had been watching the events unfold. Despite their hesitation, I gave them a command.
“What are you doing? Quickly take my brother to a place where he can rest! Those with free hands, collect the broken equipment in the vicinity, repair the defensive wall, and check if there are any other enemies—send scouts if needed!”
“Yes, sir!”
“Also, you.”
Stopping one of the soldiers who had observed my fight, I handed him the letter Luminous had prepared.
“Report to the king for reinforcements and summon other responsible individuals for the defense line.”
“But…?”
“If you tell them my brother has fallen, they should come. Or did you truly leave everything to my brother alone?”
“Yes, sir! I’ll do it immediately!”
Though I might have been a bit impatient, as long as they did their job, it was acceptable.
“…Sorry, I was a bit irritated.”
“It’s unavoidable. The situation has worsened more than expected.”
As I apologized, Aria sighed and looked behind. There, Aria saw someone holding the strange weapon she had defeated and some surviving monsters.
“Ugh…”
Among them, one person was still alive. Looking at the right hand that held the weapon, the wrist and beyond were scorched. It seemed that miraculously, it had avoided Aria’s flames.
“Serena, can you provide the minimum treatment for that person?”
“Yes.”
After tying up the survivor, Serena treated them to a level that wouldn’t cause immediate death. Then, she touched the crystal shining on the chests of the fallen monsters.
“Aria, do you notice?”
In response to my question, Aria nodded.
“They’re undoubtedly dead, yet these monsters won’t turn into magic stones.”
When defeated, monsters usually turned into magic stones. This was consistent, whether in dungeons or elsewhere. Considering this and our past encounters with Flud and Vagras…
“Berg, it’s probably…”
“Yeah, these monsters are likely humans mutated by Fifth’s magical tools.”
A considerable number of monsters had attacked in this area. If that were the case, the citizens in the Blasia region, where the attacks were concentrated, might have suffered even more.
“I was planning to head straight to the Earl of Orshiron’s territory once my brother recovered, but… it seems that won’t work out.”
Looking up, the sky was already beginning to darken, hinting at the depth of the shadows that would soon engulf the country.

We thoroughly maintained the defensive line after the monsters that attacked had suddenly fallen silent. Since the king wanted to speak with me before nightfall, I received instructions to keep watch and report diligently. Along with Aria and others, I headed to the royal castle with the escort carriage.
Upon arriving with the knight, we were led into the throne room. Inside, the king, the captain of the knights, and several nobles were present. Some of them wore battle attire, suggesting they were in charge of the defense.
“Thank you for coming, Sir Berg, the Black Storm Knight.”
While the nobles and soldiers looked at me with various expressions, the king addressed me.
