The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 118
Chapter 118: Meaning
Leaping from rubble to rubble, I climbed up and caught sight of Yomi. Cloaked in lightning, I slashed at him from behind, crossing my twin swords.
“…Still resisting?”
The wound I caused began to heal. Yomi turned to look at me with eyes devoid of any heat, his gaze indifferent.
“…The world turns with life and death. Everything will eventually decay and come to an end, and new life will be born, causing the world to continue its cycle.”
Yomi began speaking to me, as if trying to teach me. It felt like he was explaining things to a stubborn child.
“That is the meaning of life. To live and die, that is the only role and mission… But you humans sought something beyond that.”
His words came from someone who had seen many deaths, from someone who had witnessed an unfathomable amount of death.
“Unnecessary killings, worthless conflicts, useless systems, inequality from one-sided exploitation, hatred and disgust born from the inability to understand each other… All of this is caused by your excessive desires, and it distorts the true form of the world.”
In Yomi’s eyes, there was nothing. No hatred or attachment to life—only the will to act because it was necessary.
“Therefore, I will end it all. I will put an end to you wasting your brief time on meaningless acts… And I, as a god, will do it. Do you intend to resist?”
An overwhelming pressure radiated from Yomi. Even the strongest warrior or the staunchest atheist would be forced to kneel under such immense weight. Yet, I faced him head-on.
“You’re right. People do cling to things they consider meaningless, and they get passionate about things that seem pointless or trivial… But that’s what makes people human, to find meaning in meaninglessness.”
“…”
“Even things that might seem trivial to others… if someone finds meaning in them, if they feel it’s worth spending their time on—time that, to you, seems brief—then it’s not meaningless to that person.”
“…”
“You, up high from the start, probably can’t understand it. The history that’s been built from the so-called ‘meaningless’ things.”
“…No more need for words. ‘Be crushed to death.’”
I felt an invisible force closing in, and I leaped from the rubble. As the shockwave passed my face, the wind it created pushed me downward toward the ground.
“Military Gear.”
A jet-black sword traced an arc. The darkness emanating from the sword left a black trail in the air.
“Dragon Gear.”
A white sword shone brightly. The light from the blade left behind a white trail in the air.
“Simultaneous Activation.”
The black and white traces in the air expanded from me as the darkness formed into a black army, roaring in triumph, while the light became a white dragon that roared and gathered toward me.
“‘Chaos End.’”
A dull, silver glow spread across the sky of Ozuma. As all living beings shielded their eyes from the brightness, only Yomi stared directly at it.
The light streaked past Yomi at high speed. For a brief moment, I felt as though the world had lost its sound. Then, an explosion shook the air, and the majority of Yomi’s gate, which had been forming a monstrous shape behind him, was destroyed.
“To find, to spend, to entrust, to pass on.”
This was something I had gained from the battle at Hizuchi. It was something I had learned from a proud warrior who merged two powers into one.
“That is the power humans hold, Yomi.”
In my hands were the jet-black and white swords. I was clad in the Chaos Crusader’s black armor and the High End’s white dragon scales. On my back were the white dragon wings and black flame wings.
“Feel it in your body!”
The battle between man and god began once again.
