The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 34
Chapter 34: The Eyes of the Warrior
Dodging the spears thrusting from all sides, I swung my sword down. The armored warriors defended with their gauntleted arms, but even with their arms half severed, they still pressed on to stop my movements.
Letting go of my sword, I grabbed their arm, lifted them as if carrying them on my back, and threw them towards the armored warriors approaching from behind. I quickly took up the gigantic battle axe, swinging it sideways.
The body of the armored warrior, struck by the crushing blow from the axe, split into upper and lower parts. Yet, taking advantage of the gap, the armored warriors continued to thrust their spears.
(They’re strong… More importantly, they’re used to fighting in groups.)
In such a densely packed chaotic battle, there was the option to deflect attacks and incite friendly fire, but the armored warriors attacked with minimal movement and coordination to prevent friendly fire.
If I tried to escape by jumping up, it was clear I would be shot down by a rain of spells, and I couldn’t ignore the armored warriors to head for the main camp.
The soldiers were so well-trained and surrounded that I couldn’t help but admire Shion’s skill in building such a formidable unit.
Immediately after crushing an armored warrior’s head with a mace, spears were thrust down from all directions. I caught them with my sword, but the impact shattered the ground beneath my feet.
While being pinned down, the armored warriors at the rear thrust their spears at me. Grasping the approaching spear tips, I murmured.
“‘Eclipse’”
Darkness roared like a storm around me. The armored warriors holding the spears that were pinning me down were also thrown back as if their spears were launched into the air.
I wielded my sword wrapped in darkness, cutting through and sending flying the armored warriors in front of me.
“‘Eclipse’ has been a while…”
With the tail of darkness trailing behind me, I swung my sword down toward the armored warriors.
—
(Shion’s Side)
“That wasn’t reported… It’s incredible.”
I muttered while observing the battle of a man named Belk, and even Zen, whose fighting could be described as godlike, watched in awe.
“Lord Shion, at this rate, he might reach the main camp.”
“It’s not a possibility; it’s a certainty. But it won’t be immediate.”
I replied while giving instructions to the soldiers. With the intermediary unit mobilized towards Belk, it likely appeared that the current flanks of the main camp were open.
“There’s no way they’ll miss that opportunity.”
Immediately after I muttered that, flames erupted from the right side of the main camp, visible even from here. Following that, a landslide occurred from the mountain on the left and advanced towards us.
“He’s coming just as expected.”
I was certain it was Belk. If I were in his position, I would use the same tactics.
—
(Rakul’s Side)
“This is…”
At the signal of Selk activating ‘Eclipse,’ a pre-set landslide occurred, and observing from the mountain, I muttered in surprise.
Despite their ordinary equipment, the Ozuma soldiers launched a massive barrier with coordinated spellcasting. The barrier created by nearly a hundred soldiers didn’t fully block the landslide, failing to achieve the desired effect.
“…That’s Ozuma’s spellcaster unit, a team skilled at performing god-like spells by multiple people working together.”
“So they were disguised as ordinary soldiers.”
Even so, such powerful spells would require considerable effort to cast, indicating that the enemy had anticipated this attack and had prepared in advance.
On the opposite side, a similar barrier was deployed, blocking the flames. The strategy to break the main camp through encirclement had completely failed.
“Cease the assault as planned and regroup with the main force. Hurry.”
Originally, Selk had said that if this tactic failed, we should retreat immediately, but we would likely be pursued during the regrouping.
Selk had entrusted me with on-site decisions. In that case, I should make it easier for Selk to move.
“Hinowa, Amari, I leave the command to you.”
“What about you, Lord Rakul?”
“I’ll handle blocking the pursuit and breaking the left flank.”
Brandishing Zanma and descending the slope created by the landslide, I spoke with determined words.
“Activate ‘Kōtaku King Zanma’!”
Donning rock armor, I leapt toward the barrier.
