The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 5
Chapter 5: Consultation
Upon our arrival in the capital, knights who had been notified greeted us. Resting in a chamber within the castle, my elder brother, the leader of the knights, and Rakul entered.
“Welcome back, Berg.”
“You too, bro. You’re not pushing yourself too hard, are you?”
“I’m fine for now. Though, I can’t help but itch to delve into those documents.”
The documents my brother mentioned refer to the research materials left by Elford. Both my trustworthy brother and Philia have been entrusted with viewing them. Philia, quite literally, loses track of time while engrossed in her research, while my brother sets aside time to read through them.
“Speaking of Philia…”
“Well, after our communication, she got caught researching in bed, so Teresa’s keeping an eye on her to make sure she rests.”
“What’s she up to, sis…?”
Aria couldn’t help but bury her face in her hands. I felt the same mix of exasperation and amusement. After briefing my brother and the others on the situation, we began discussing our options.
After listening to our story, my brother and the others pondered for a moment before responding.
“I think the likelihood of them resorting to force is low. If they have access to such information, it wouldn’t be surprising if they’re aware of the Empire’s strength, with Berg as their prime example. Moreover, despite Kamtsuhi and Zanma being in the kingdom, they’re stationed in the port city, suggesting they’re not fully informed… Meaning, they likely have limited information.”
“But what if they gather enough information and decide to act?”
“Considering the situation in Hizuchi, I wouldn’t put it past them. If I were them, and I had someone who could steal two rare drops from the Empire, I’d move in Hizuchi’s favor.”
My brother’s insight proved invaluable once again. By hearing perspectives from a broader standpoint and considering the opponent’s viewpoint, it becomes easier for us to determine our course of action.
“So, are the Gomon seeking legitimate negotiations?”
“Most likely. They wouldn’t want to lose trade with the Hume Continent, which could serve as a vital supply source, especially during their internal conflicts. Demanding the return of Kamtsuhi and Zanma suggests their situation is dire… They probably don’t want to prolong this any further.”
“My head’s starting to hurt a bit…”
My brother attempted to summarize our discussion, but when it comes to inter-country affairs, there’s too much to consider. Seeing my plight, my brother chuckled and continued.
“I’ve gathered some information from the port city where the envoys are staying, but judging by the number of people and cargo, it’s evident they’re here for negotiations. So, I think it’d be best to greet them normally.”
“People, huh… By the way, who exactly came for negotiations?”
“Gomon’s situation doesn’t come through clearly, so we’re not entirely sure, but judging by the name, it’s likely.”
My brother provided the name of the negotiator.
“Hinowa Gomon… She’s the eldest daughter of the Gomon clan’s head, and her prowess as a mage is said to be considerable.”
