The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 63
Chapter 63: Two Steeds
The next morning, despite being kept up by Ruskdite’s nightly visit and drained for what she called “five days’ worth,” I managed to get up somehow.
(Good thing I prepared everything beforehand…)
When I reached the gate, Rakul and the others were already gathered, fully prepared to depart.
“Sorry to keep you waiting,” I said.
“You’re not late, so it’s fine. But considering the number of people here, wouldn’t it be better to borrow horses?”
“If we do that, we’d have to adjust our breaks to suit the horses, and we couldn’t push them at full speed. That’s why we’re going with this instead.”
Saying this, I held up Chaos Crusader and High End. Darkness and light radiated simultaneously as I summoned them.
“Come forth… Garma, Souga!”
At my call, a warhorse clad in jet-black armor named Garma and a dragon steed with alabaster scales and a dragon’s head named Souga appeared. Garma was equipped with a chariot, designed to carry up to three riders.
“Rakul and Amelie, ride on Souga. It might take some getting used to, but it’s faster and sturdier than regular horses.”
“…It won’t throw us off, will it?”
“…I’ll make sure it won’t.”
When I instructed Souga to carry Rakul and Amelie, it snorted as if reluctantly agreeing. Judging it safe enough for now, everyone mounted their rides.
I took the reins and directed Garma to move. Effortlessly pulling the chariot, it surged forward. Souga, carrying Rakul and Amelie, followed closely behind.
Taking breaks along the way, we rode Garma and Souga until we reached the foot of the mountain where the village of Hijima was once located. By then, the sun had begun to set, so we deemed it too dangerous to ascend and decided to camp at the base for the night.
By the time we had set up our tents and finished cooking dinner, darkness had fallen, with only the glow of the campfire cutting through it.
“I’ll keep watch with Rakul first. Serena, Hinowa, Amelie, get some rest. Even if you can’t sleep, just lying down and closing your eyes will help.”
There were no objections. After dinner, Serena and the others retired to rest. I added more firewood to the flames and turned to Rakul, who was staring at the mountain.
“We finally made it, huh?”
“Yeah…”
Rakul answered while touching Zanma, his expression melancholic.
“I don’t even have anything left of Ganza-san, not even a memento… After purifying the village, is it alright if I make a grave for him?”
“Of course. Ideally, we’d hold a proper service with his sons if possible, but…”
I suddenly paused, my attention drawn to the will conveyed through Chaos Crusader. Hearing this, I looked up at the mountain with Rakul.
“Serk?”
“No, it’s nothing… Before anything else, we need to purify the poison there.”
For now, there doesn’t seem to be an issue with deciding where to place the grave…
