The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 77
Chapter 77: Rescue
A full day passed after we returned, and we set up the army to wait for Ozuma’s forces in the plains near East Valley Castle. Our army had grown to nearly 9,000 with Fudou, Hiruko, and the others joining, but only around 4,000 were positioned on the plain.
“I see them,” Shurin muttered, her amber eyes sparkling. It seemed Ozuma’s army was approaching.
“Who’s at the front?”
“…Yomi soldiers. They have people tied to wooden boards and are carrying them.”
“…That’s enough. How many hostages are there?”
“About 400 at the front, none behind them.”
“…Then we proceed as planned.”
Shurin nodded and prepared her Elseed. I also readied my Chaos Crusader and we both spoke powerful words at the same time.
“Armor deployment, ‘Black-clad Holy Army, Chaos Crusader!'”
“Armor deployment, ‘Gale of Abundance, Elseed!'”
Winds of black and green roared. As I donned my jet-black armor and activated ‘Devour,’ my wings spread, and I infused darkness into my large sword.
Shurin also charged her magic into her bow. The bow, wrapped in soft green light, sprouted small seeds, which cracked and multiplied.
Ozuma’s army came closer, within range of our arrows. Shurin and I flew into the air and prepared ourselves.
The instant Shurin released her arrow, hundreds of seeds were absorbed into the “Black Blade Storm, Stormbringer” and hummed as they were swung down toward Ozuma’s army.
“Tree Phoenix Falling Sword, Simurgh!”
Hundreds of seeds struck the Yomi soldiers holding hostages. The flowers quickly grew by absorbing the Yomi soldiers’ power, causing them to collapse.
Seeds fell at the feet of the Yomi soldiers behind them. The seeds grew rapidly into trees that easily surpassed the height of the Yomi soldiers, temporarily dividing their forces.
“Let’s go, Eight Thunder Gods.”
“Hehehehe, got it!”
I grabbed the Seven-branched Sword on my back. I aimed at the Yomi soldiers who were either trying to break through or circumvent the tree wall.
Eight bolts of lightning shot from the Seven-branched Sword. The lightning struck the ground and blasted away the Yomi soldiers trying to advance.
The continuous rain of lightning stopped their invasion. Then, Ilma and Hiruko, who had been hiding in the forests on either side of the plains, appeared with hundreds of soldiers, carrying the hostages tied to wooden boards and returning to us.
“Hahahahahaha!”
Accompanying Ilma to rescue the hostages, Setsura kicked through the Yomi soldiers with Sabifuri. Arrows were shot, but Serena, who was at the rear, protected us with a barrier, allowing the main force to safely return to the base.
“Now, we just crush them.”
“Hehehe, let’s send them back to the underworld first!”
I imbued lightning into the Seven-branched Sword and swung it. Eight bolts of lightning struck the Yomi soldiers like giant claws, tearing through them.
(Dougen’s Side)
“Hm, I should have used more meat shields, I guess.”
I muttered while watching the battle on the front lines through a telescope. I couldn’t help but whistle at the efficiency of Belk and the power with which the Yomi soldiers were being trampled.
“That lightning wasn’t in the report… And to think he’s actually controlling demons…”
I immediately grabbed the neck of a nearby subordinate and pushed him forward. Just then, an arrow flew from afar, piercing my subordinate and, with a cry of pain, the arrow’s roots began to grow.
“Is it painful? I’ll make it easier for you.”
I severed the head of the subordinate I used as a shield. Blood sprayed, but I didn’t care, keeping my eyes fixed on the front lines.
“Well then, let’s move on to the second act.”
With the Corpse-Eater resting on my shoulder, I gave orders to the Yomi soldiers.
