The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 78
Chapter 78: Air Force
“It didn’t hit.”
“No, you did well.”
I replied to Shurin’s report, narrowing my eyes at Dougen’s movements. Although his methods were nauseating, at least I could tell that Dougen wasn’t a coward who would run away easily. That was a small victory.
“…What’s that?”
I sensed a disturbance in the magical energy from the middle of Ozuma’s army. Immediately after, the Yomi soldiers in the middle of the army took to the air.
“Flying ability!?”
Looking at the backs of the flying Yomi soldiers, I saw monstrous creatures resembling ominous dragonflies attached to them, their huge wings flapping.
These flying Yomi soldiers, thousands strong, filled the air with the sound of their wings, echoing across the battlefield.
“Shurin! Get back!”
I entrusted my back to Shurin as I swung my Seven-branched Sword at the flying soldiers. The lightning spread out like a fan, striking down the advancing flying soldiers, but nearly half of them ignored us and headed toward the main camp.
On the ground, the Yomi soldiers began advancing. Setsura was scattering the nearby Yomi soldiers, but stopping them all was impossible.
(…I have no choice but to use it.)
“Shurin, I’ll stop the Yomi soldiers on the ground. You and Aria take care of the flying soldiers.”
“Understood.”
Seizing the moment when the flying soldiers were burned away, Shurin returned to the main camp. As I saw her off, I dove down, launching my “Black Blade Stormbringer” at the front of the advancing Yomi soldiers and scattering them.
The moment I landed, I thrust my sword into the ground. I called out to the souls in the darkness and energized them. As the Yomi soldiers raised their weapons and approached, those who had emerged from the shadows at my feet slashed through them.
“Advance! Crusaders!”
At my command, warriors cloaked in jet-black armor emerged from the spreading shadows. Executioners wielding scythe-sized weapons swung their arms, decapitating Yomi soldiers with each strike, while massive swords, imbued with holy magic, rampaged across the battlefield. Knights blocked the advancing Yomi soldiers, halting their progress.
Ozuma’s forces still outnumbered us greatly, but the Crusaders, like a wall of blackness, threw the Yomi soldiers back. Some of those with ranged attacks shot down the flying soldiers from behind.
Thousands of flying soldiers were gradually reduced in number as Serena’s barrier protected us, and Aria, Shurin, and the Gomons countered with arrows and other ranged attacks, taking down the descending Yomi soldiers.
But more flying soldiers continued to appear. If we didn’t stop them before they took flight, we would be overwhelmed. I summoned Garma and focused on the spot where the flying soldiers were appearing. I spotted a soldier holding a glowing crystal.
(That’s him!)
I ordered Garma to jump. As he landed, he blew away the nearby Yomi soldiers and, shrouded in black wind, rushed straight toward the soldier holding the crystal.
The soldier noticed us and tried to stop us by having the surrounding Yomi and flying soldiers swarm Garma and me, but I surrounded myself with lightning and blasted them all away.
“Yikes!?”
The soldier turned to flee. Garma leapt again, smashing the ground, and caught up instantly. With one swing of my Seven-branched Sword, I cleaved through the soldier and the crystal.
