The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 80
Chapter 80: Curse
(Aria’s side)
“Flame Form, ‘Desire’s Beautiful Flame, Ruskdite'”
I ignited the flames surrounding me, burning down the flying soldiers approaching from the sky. I must have already defeated several hundred, but the soldiers still filled the sky.
(It’s troublesome, but it’s not something I can’t handle.)
Just as I spread my wings and was about to fly toward the soldiers, I heard a scream from behind. When I turned around, a black mist was emerging from somewhere, and the Gomon soldiers were collapsing one by one.
Looking closely, I saw that the black mist was coming from the people I had saved. However, it was obvious from the suffering on their faces that this was not their will.
“This is… a curse.”
“A curse?”
I asked, repeating Hilko’s mutter. While impaling a flying soldier with his spear, Hilko answered.
“Most likely, the curse was set to activate through the people once the time came… I didn’t think they’d go this far.”
“A curse… if it’s Serena…”
Leaving the situation to Hilko, I called out to Shurin through the communication crystal and flew toward Serena. It seemed that Serena had noticed the change, as she had set up a barrier around the people to prevent the curse from spreading.
“Serena! Can you lift the curse?”
“I can, but… I’ll have to undo the barrier I’m using to hold back the enemies first.”
“We’ll handle the monsters. Serena, focus on lifting the curse.”
As I spoke, Serena nodded, and at the same time, Shurin joined us. After quickly explaining the situation, Shurin nodded and readied his bow.
As soon as Serena dispelled the barrier, we retreated. Shurin and I unleashed flames and fierce winds at the incoming flying soldiers, who rushed at us like a broken dam.
However, the flying soldiers in the back didn’t care about the ones that had been burned and continued to charge toward us. Furthermore, a group of Yomi soldiers, who had descended slightly ahead, were about to attack from the ground.
(We won’t make it in time for backup!)
The Yomi soldiers seemed to target the gap in the command system caused by the sudden curse. I tried to summon flames to stop them, but…
“What!?”
A dark army suddenly broke in and began attacking the Yomi and flying soldiers.
(Berk’s side)
I sent the Crusaders to assist Aria and the others and faced the Beast of Yomi. The beast growled, showing its row upon row of fangs as I took my stance.
“Kakakaka, would it not be quicker to have that army help out?”
“That army is power meant to protect people. Besides, if we want to defeat him, it’s enough for me and you.”
“Indeed, indeed. Then, I shall answer your trust.”
As I spoke with the Eight Thunder Gods, the Beast of Yomi lunged at me, swinging its front legs down. I quickly turned to avoid the attack while extending the Seven-Branch Sword with lightning, slashing through the descending front leg and burning it as I cut it off.
“——-!?”
As I cut off its leg, I leapt into the air and cleaved the beast’s head with the white sword. With the flow of my motion, I kicked the severed head away with a leg wrapped in darkness.
Black liquid spilled from the head that had been split vertically as the Beast of Yomi fell with a cloud of dust. For a moment, silence reigned, but soon after, a surge of magic power erupted from the Beast.
The burned flesh began to swell, regenerating, and the severed head wriggled and reattached itself, returning to its original form. It stood up once more.
“So, it’s not going to be that easy…”
As if answering my words, the Beast of Yomi raised the spines on its back and charged toward me again.
