The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 89
Chapter 89: The Blade of the Mountain and the Blade of Death
(Dougen’s side)
(This kid!? He was completely broken just a moment ago, wasn’t he!?)
I grimace as I deflect the Zanmato being swung at me. The blades I control are being deflected by that kid using Kunou’s technique.
With the worry about his back now gone, Rakul’s attacks become sharper. I can’t just deflect them anymore and must block, but even with the Bone Eater strengthening my arm, the weight leaves my arm numb.
(Has he recovered!? Is he using this kid as the trigger!? There’s no way that’s just a coincidence!!)
I sprout blades from my left arm and swing. A sand arm that sprouted from the ground grabs and stops my left arm, which is shaped like a spiked mace.
The sand around Rakul’s arm gathers and forms into a massive stone hammer. The hammer strikes my solar plexus, and the impact nearly makes me vomit.
“It seems there’s a limit to how much you can increase the damage.”
The stone hammer that touched the blade was scratched and crumbled, but the gauntlet underneath showed no signs of damage.
(This guy… he noticed!)
The Bone Eater only enhances the size of wounds. It can turn a small scratch into a deep wound that reaches the bone, but it can’t indiscriminately cut through everything.
In short, if there’s a thick shield or armor, it can block the attack once or twice. But it’s always better to avoid it, and that’s what my past opponents have done.
But now, there’s someone who’s using that foolish method to fight. And unlike the others who try to avoid it, no matter how many times I strike, I can’t deal a fatal blow.
As I realize that my techniques and experience are ineffective against this opponent, an unprecedented sense of death runs down my spine. Then, the Bone Eater is held down by the Zanmato, and a fist wrapped in rock slams into my cheek.
“Ha… hahaha… hahahahahaha!”
I’m knocked down to the ground. As I feel the pain and sensations throughout my body, I realize I’m laughing.
“This! This is it! The feeling of walking on the edge between life and death! It’s exhilarating and frustrating, a messy mix of emotions, and it’s so damn addictive!!”
I stand up and raise the Bone Eater. I cut my body with the blade in my left hand, spilling bl00d everywhere. The blades I had released earlier gather around the Bone Eater.
“I don’t care about what’s ahead or behind! We’ve got to enjoy the moment right now! ‘Spirit Eater’!!”
The Bone Eater absorbs the gathered blades, growing larger. It becomes so huge and ominous, it almost seems like it could pierce the sky, and it comes crashing down.
Rakul faces the now massive Bone Eater head-on. As he steps forward, he spins his Zanmato with his body, and earth rushes around the blade, forming a rapidly growing blade of rock.
“‘Great Mountain Burial’!!”
The rock blade Rakul raises is twice the size of the enlarged Bone Eater. The rough, mountainous blade howls as it clashes with the Bone Eater.
A roaring sound like the earth shaking echoes as the giant blades clash. A malevolent wave of energy emanates from the Bone Eater’s blade, hitting Rakul and causing his armor to crack and spread.
The rock blade continues to collide with the Bone Eater, causing cracks to spread. As Rakul’s helmet shatters, his eyes become exposed, and bl00d begins to flow from his forehead.
“OOOOOOOOOOO!!”
“AAAAAAAAAAH!!”
Even so, Rakul swings his rock blade with all his strength, and in response, a roar that seems to come from deep within his soul erupts from his throat.
The battle that had been in a stalemate starts to collapse, and a sound like a meteor crashing to the ground fills the air, followed by a cloud of dust.
