The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 90
Chapter 90: The Final Moments of the Skeleton General
(Rakul’s side)
As the dust clears, my armor unfastens. From the wounds I received in our final clash, bl00d flows, and I kneel.
“Hah… hah…”
Though my breathing is ragged, I lift my head. In front of me is Dougen, his right arm severed from his shoulder, collapsing, with the Bone Eater separated from his right arm.
“I… am I going to die?”
Dougen’s body has returned to human form. Bl00d continues to flow from the countless wounds covering his body, and it’s a wonder he’s even speaking, let alone still alive.
“Here…”
Ameri comes over and applies a healing salve. It’s just a quick patch-up, but it’s enough to stop the bleeding and allow me to move without much problem.
Once she finishes tending to my wounds, Ameri turns toward Dougen. As soon as Dougen sees her, he smirks and begins speaking.
“Heh… Avenge him, huh? I bet it feels good to have someone carry you through the revenge, huh?”
“…”
“Your old man was quite something. The way he struggled and begged for his life until the very end… it was so pathetic, I almost laughed. Just like you did earlier.”
“What’s your point?”
Ameri interrupts Dougen’s words, but her response holds no anger or hatred.
“Regardless of how my father died, or what his feelings were at the end, to me, he will always be the martial artist I looked up to, the goal I aimed for.”
Ameri gazes at Dougen with eyes full of strong resolve. She has grown into a true warrior.
“As a Gomoon warrior, I will take your head. No matter how much you try to tarnish my father’s name, I will simply do what I must.”
Dougen silently looks up at Ameri, and then, as though she were something unimportant, he turns his gaze away.
“…Is that all you have to say?”
“Tch…”
Dougen clicks his tongue, and Ameri quietly places her hand on the hilt of her sword. She takes a stance, aiming for his neck.
“…Your father was…”
Just before her sword is drawn, Dougen murmurs, his voice tinged with resignation, as if he no longer cared.
“Even at the very end, he was a pathetic man.”
“…”
Ameri draws her sword. As her blade severs the connection between Dougen’s neck and body, bl00d sprays, and his eyes lose all their light.
…Dougen’s last words. The man who had laughed at my father’s desperate, pitiful struggle for life said that. It made me think… maybe my father was truly…
“U… Uhh…”
Ameri drops her sword and collapses to her knees, covering her face with her hands. Through the gaps between her fingers, tears begin to fall, and she quietly sobs.
I approach and gently rub Ameri’s back. She begins to cry as if letting go of everything she had been holding in.
“Father… Father!! Uaaaaah!!”
Her sorrowful voice echoes, and the tears flood out, soaking the ground beneath her.
After a while, the sound of hooves can be heard. Looking up, I see a black and white chariot approaching us.
The battle with the Skeleton General, Dougen, has come to an end…
