The Second Son of The Marquis Runs Away from Home ~ Lacking Talent, He Abandons Everything and Becomes an Adventurer ~ - 91
Chapter 91: The General’s Final Decision
When we arrived, we saw the two wounded individuals and Dougen’s body with its severed head. Serena began treating their injuries, and Hinowa went over to Ameri’s side.
Hinowa raised her hand and slapped Ameri’s cheek. The dry sound echoed, and then Hinowa embraced Ameri tightly.
“You fool! You really are a fool! …Going this far… truly…”
“…I’m sorry.”
Ameri, sobbing, was held by Hinowa, and she didn’t resist, accepting the embrace. I decided to speak with Rakul for now.
“It seems like it was quite a tough opponent.”
“Yeah. As expected of a man who was entrusted with the title of general, he was very strong. If I had been alone, I might have been killed.”
“…Ameri?”
I turned my gaze toward Ameri. She pulled away from Hinowa and turned to face me. Her eyes no longer held any intense emotions, and the dangerous aura around her had vanished.
“It seems you’ve understood Kunou’s teachings.”
“Yes.”
“It’s good to see you’ve grown as a warrior… but that doesn’t mean you can act on your own without thinking.”
I released a murderous intent toward Ameri. Even though Hinowa was standing a little further away, Ameri likely felt the heavy pressure, as if swords were being pointed at her by the black knights and a dragon was glaring at her up close.
“I had Rakul with you just in case, but what would you have done if he hadn’t made it in time? Did you understand how much of an impact it would have if you, the daughter of the head of the family, became a hostage? Whether we rescued you or abandoned you, it would have had severe consequences.”
I stepped closer to Ameri as I asked. She trembled, listening carefully to my words.
“Do you understand how much danger your actions put the Gomoon warriors and the people in? There was no need to take such risks to defeat Dougen.”
Rakul and the others silently watched the situation unfold. Rakul understood the danger in Ameri’s actions, which is why he didn’t interfere.
“I’ll ask again. Do you understand how much you endangered the army with your actions?”
Ameri pressed her trembling body against the ground, listening to my words, before she closed her mouth.
“I have no excuse. I understand that my rash actions can’t be forgiven with mere words of apology.”
Ameri continued while bowing deeply. It was clear from her tone that she was deeply regretful of her actions.
“I will accept whatever punishment is decided. If I must commit seppuku, I will do it. I am truly sorry.”
“….”
After hearing Ameri’s words, I relaxed my murderous intent. I then collected Dougen’s body and the Bone Eater’s remains, before saying to her:
“Once the battle with Ozuma is over, I will discuss the matter with Lord Amane and decide on a course of action. Until then, I’ll assign you to Rakul… If you repeat this, I’ll be the one to cut you down.”
Ameri raised her head and then bowed again, replying:
“Thank you for your generous consideration.”
After the situation calmed down, everyone got back on their war chariots to return. When I exhaled, Aria spoke to me kindly.
“Good work for now.”
“Yeah… I really feel tired of being angry.”
Though I knew I had to do it as a general, the weight of it all hit me again.
