The Senior Student (female) Is Not Human - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: The Love Letter
She also liked Jiang Xiyao.
“Hey!”
“You’ll deliver the thing, right?”
First, her name wasn’t “Hey,” it was Xie Shiwei.
Second, it was one o’clock in the morning. Only things that couldn’t see the light of day would come knocking at this hour, right?
Xie Shiwei slowly turned her head to look at the figure beside her, a figure whose stance and posture were particularly audacious—a blur of mosaic.
With her one thousand degrees of myopia, she was practically blind without her glasses. Even without hearing the voice, she could recognize this “peacock-spreading-its-tail” blur as her roommate, You Jiayi.
On the first night of school, this person’s late-night talk about the twenty-six ex-girlfriends in her history was still echoing in Xie Shiwei’s mind.
Now, You Jiayi, who championed lesbianism as a fashion statement, believed her twenty-seventh passionate romance only needed one thing: a love letter.
A love letter that needed Xie Shiwei to deliver.
“Are you thinking of backing out?” You Jiayi frowned, speeding up her speech. “You’re not a lesbian, and you’re the only one in the entire dorm who chose the same elective as Senior Sister Jiang. What’s the big deal about helping me out?”
The phrase “not a lesbian” reminded Xie Shiwei of the night her sexual orientation was stamped with an official verdict.
Her roommates had asked You Jiayi how she identified fellow lesbians.
You Jiayi gave a few examples. As Xie Shiwei was passing by her bed, late from her part-time job, she heard You Jiayi snap her fingers:
“For example, people who don’t care about dressing up, whose glasses are outdated—you can tell with one look they’re not lesbians.”
Xie Shiwei, who was denied entry into lesbianism because her clothes were ‘uncool,’ was as calm now as she was then:
“Okay.”
You Jiayi thought she was about to refuse. “Okay what? You just have to put it on her desk during the break… Huh? Okay? You agreed?”
Xie Shiwei nodded. The water flowing from her forehead into her eyes, due to maintaining the listening posture for too long, made them sting slightly.
However, Xie Shiwei’s focused, even unconsciously blinking eyes suddenly made You Jiayi’s heart skip a beat.
When Xie Shiwei had turned her head just now, You Jiayi had almost thought she recognized the wrong person.
The largely plain face, usually hidden by a straight fringe and thick, black-rimmed glasses, was actually set with delicate, milky-white skin. Below a small, straight nose, her tightly pressed, pale lips seemed unexpectedly cute.
The most surprising feature was her eyes. Unlike the bulging eyes often associated with high myopia, the large eyes under her double eyelids, unable to focus at the moment, had a hazy, watery look.
You Jiayi was stared at for a long time. Thinking about the deliberate gesture of taking off her glasses, and the fixed gaze while listening, You Jiayi suspected Xie Shiwei was intentionally trying to seduce her.
What a pity.
She thought: If I hadn’t seen a beauty as peerless as Senior Sister Jiang, I might have considered Xie Shiwei.
It was only Xie Shiwei’s bad timing, right?
…
However, Xie Shiwei felt very lucky, precisely because she had managed to select this elective course.
Although she was slamming lemons at the bubble tea shop until past midnight the night before, and her elective class didn’t start until ten o’clock, she still got up punctually at eight, put on her freshly dried new clothes, and arrived at the classroom ten minutes early.
The elective classroom was already bustling with people.
“Why are there so many people all of a sudden? All freshmen? Too much energy to burn off? Not skipping class?”
“Oh, I know. It must be because that Art Institute Beauty chose this class, right? Everyone’s here for her.”
“Jiang Xiyao?! You mean Jiang Xiyao chose this class? Why the hell didn’t you say so earlier! I wouldn’t have left either!”
Students from the previous class wanted to stay and audit, while those officially enrolled were blocked in the hallway. Soon, friction arose at the crowded classroom door, escalating from a shouting match to a physical conflict.
Xie Shiwei clung to the stairwell corner, watching the scene of admirers fighting before the celebrity herself had even arrived, and secretly regretted being too late.
Gauging the red-faced boys with their raised, fist-sized fists, Xie Shiwei felt that if she dared to cut through, they would probably be begging her not to die before she even took a hit.
What should I do? Will I be unable to enter the elective classroom today?
As the anxious thought arose, her nose suddenly caught a faint, lingering fragrance.
“So noisy.”
The voice was filled with impatience, yet it couldn’t mask its clear, bamboo-flute-like timbre.
The entire hallway seemed to press a pause button.
Xie Shiwei also stood motionless. Only her peripheral vision, against her will, followed the waft of scent from the person who just brushed past her—
The dense black hair, like strokes of shadow from a painter’s brush, flowed down to the girl’s shoulders like a command of dark ink as she lowered her gaze.
Through the gaps in her long hair, a silver-white diamond earring subtly swayed.
It complemented the crimson mole at the corner of her lips.
As the extreme clash of black, red, and white left Xie Shiwei’s heart in a flutter, the beauty, who seemed to have stepped out of a painting, suddenly raised a hand to cover her nose.
She looked at the boys blocking the classroom entrance with a disgusted expression:
“A bunch of air-polluting vermin. Get away from me.”
The crowd parted as if by magic, leaving a clear path for her to pass.
The girl was utterly accustomed to this star-surrounded treatment. Her black high heels with red soles stepped forward lazily, the “clack-clack” echoes growing prouder with every step on the tiles.
Yet, no one felt anything was amiss.
—This was Jiang Xiyao.
Everyone who had seen her felt privileged to have witnessed such a gorgeous face in their lifetime. Xie Shiwei had even heard a senior boy had torn out his eyes upon seeing Jiang Xiyao, just to permanently fix her beautiful image in his mind.
Now, Xie Shiwei, who quietly followed the senior’s figure into the classroom, also felt honored and tapped the frame of her glasses—her witness to this peerless beauty.
Her behavior wasn’t conspicuous, as the room was full of others just like her: attracted by Jiang Xiyao, wanting to get close, yet afraid of annoying her, only daring to form a distant crowd around her.
But Jiang Xiyao still felt annoyed. Not just by their fervent gazes.
But also by the heart-voices only she could hear.
【Who is she calling vermin? Doesn’t she know what ‘manliness’ is? With a face that screams ‘promiscuous whore,’ well, you’re just too beautiful. Once I get my hands on you, I’ll make you smell my manliness until you’ve had enough.】
【Why is a student wearing high heels? Clack, clack, clack, so noisy. I bet she’s doing it to seduce me, right? Was she looking over here just now? Throwing me a flirtatious glance? Wants to go on a date with me?】
【B1tch. She chose me, but now she’s flirting with others right under my nose. She really is a restless whore who likes to show off her charms—】
The last voice was far too close.
Jiang Xiyao only slightly raised her eyelid and saw the boy sitting exactly one seat away, whose eyes were now bloodshot, glaring intently at her.
The moment their eyes met, the boy’s eyes twitched, his breathing quickened, and he awkwardly turned away his gaze.
“Jiang… Classmate,” he attempted to start a conversation.
Jiang Xiyao had chosen the seat randomly, but now she pressed one hand on the chair separating them. She could see his skin slowly flushing red, indicating his increasingly intense emotions.
She found it still wasn’t enough, so she slowly leaned toward where he was sitting.
The boy, who moments ago was pretending to be shy, now stared at her in disbelief, dazed and obsessed.
Until Jiang Xiyao suddenly stopped, her dark pupils carelessly sweeping over his figure.
Thin as a bamboo pole, yet already showing a slight beer belly; his skin was not pale, but countless acne marks bloomed on this meager land; as for his Adam’s apple development, it was as flat as the space between his shorts.
Jiang Xiyao felt her eyes were momentarily dirtied.
But to provoke a stronger sense of malice from this fellow, she still smiled sweetly and offered him a reward: “Do you want to date me?”
The boy’s expression went blank.
Ignoring the envious looks from his male peers, he suddenly stood up, not even registering the painful impact of his knee against the desk corner.
His ecstatic gaze locked onto Jiang Xiyao. He pointed at himself, stammering a confirmation:
“M-Me? Is Classmate Jiang asking me?”
Jiang Xiyao answered crisply: “That’s right.”
Then, she propped her chin on her hand and leisurely continued:
“I just wanted to see if someone who looks as ugly as a pig demon could think of something as beautiful as me.”
A faint snicker rose from somewhere.
The boy’s face, which had been flushed with joy, instantly turned deathly pale, then purple with the indignation of being publicly humiliated. The rage made his skin puff up like a balloon.
【I’m going to kill you, kill you! Kill you, you shameless b1tch who humiliated and played with me!】
He clenched his fists, which made a grinding sound. In his fantasy, he was already pounding Jiang Xiyao’s dazzling face into a pulp.
“Ding-a-ling-a-ling—”
The class bell rang at that moment.
The teacher, who entered right on time, asked with a booming voice:
“Didn’t you see class has started? That student, get back in your seat immediately!”
The boy’s raging red eyes glared at the person who dared to interrupt him.
He then noticed the teacher’s head was level with the classroom door and a clear muscle bulge beneath his shirt. The murderous intent on the boy’s face suddenly deflated, like a balloon pricked by a needle. A few seconds later, he slid listlessly into his seat.
Jiang Xiyao licked her lips, thinking with slight disappointment: What a pity. I thought I’d get to eat soon.
However, she was quick to console herself that causing trouble in a classroom full of people today would probably attract unnecessary attention.
She didn’t like trouble.
So, during the boring class, Jiang Xiyao lowered her eyes, preparing to find some reserved food for later.
“Sigh. With Senior Sister’s way of speaking, will she be unable to enter the entertainment industry in the future?”
Jiang Xiyao paused her action of flipping the book.
What does that mean?
In the back row of the classroom.
Xie Shiwei, who had polished her glasses until they shone brightly, unwilling to miss any fraction of the senior’s beauty, was worrying unnecessarily.
She was unilaterally imagining that if Jiang Xiyao decided to enter the entertainment industry, would the statements she made to a classmate today become black history that tarnished her perfect image?
As if she could already hear the nasty words of netizens attacking Jiang Xiyao, Xie Shiwei secretly tightened her grip on her pen.
She decided to start lurking in a few celebrity fan forums today, diligently studying the rhetoric used to defend idols against smear campaigns.
She couldn’t help it, because like everyone else in this classroom—
She also liked Jiang Xiyao.
However, though she was also a lesbian and a secret admirer, she couldn’t be as bold as You Jiayi.
In fact, Xie Shiwei was even slightly relieved that You Jiayi had entrusted her to deliver the love letter. This way, she would have a chance to exchange a single word with the senior.
Through her schoolbag, her fingertip touched the location of the love letter. Her only worry was that Jiang Xiyao had too many suitors, and the senior never seemed to be alone.
How should I manage to hand over my roommate’s love letter to her, and to her alone?
